When you mention the daytime flights from JFK to LHR, I want to make a mention that there is one daytime flight from Boston (where I live) to LHR, and that is British Airways flight 238
I think this really shows the positive development this channel has gone through! From narrating simply for the sake of having a voice overed video to adding a bit of personal and humorous touch. Love it!
The trick to AirTrain is to buy the 10-time pass which only costs $26.50. You can swipe multiple people in. So for families of 4, and taking airtrain twice within 30 days, the cost should be only $26.50. Even if you’re group of two, it also makes sense.
As someone who can't eat a lot in the morning I actually love the way VS structures their meal service on this flight. Other airlines serving a big breakfast and then a snackbox several hours later just wouldn't work well for me. Particularly if you're landing at LHR around 7.30, getting through customs and immigration by 8.30 and then getting into central London around 9.30, you're going to be lucky to go to bed with dinner. With a more substantive meal later in the flight though, I can imagine arriving much more satisfied.
I took the VA 787-9 from Miami to LHR back in June. Admittedly, I was in Premium Economy but I had a very stress free flight. Virgin has been my carrier of choice between Miami and London for about thirty years now.
If you book with Virgin you can get this route for just 6,000 Virgin points one-way, plus $73 tax. Same from Boston and Washington. That is extremely good because the cash price is expensive. If you go from the west coast (LAX, SFO, LAS) it’s 9,000 plus $79. Not as good going from London to the US because of the much higher taxes.
If you're really on a budget, you can take the Q10 or B15 bus to Lefferts Blvd AirTrain station and the airtrain will be free there. You only get charged for the Airtrain at Howard Beach and Jamaica stations
Paris now embraces the upcharge-for-airport scheme whereby regular transit is Eur2.5 system-wide, but Eur12 if you include airport on/offboarding. BTW Virgin Prem Eco is quite nice. Metallic cutlery, glass cups, even a standing lounge which is not a galley.
14:55 This may be true for economy, but it can't be said for premium economy and Upper Class. I've flown their 787s twice, once in economy and once in premium economy class. The state of the cabin in economy was fine, but the premium economy seats are really worn out. There were multiple issues with them, one being the hinge that attaches the seat to the floor literally broke off so our flight had to be delayed while a mechanic came onboard and fixed it, and the other being the touch screen remotes for the IFE was broken at just about every seat. It's also worth mentioning the Upper Class seats on the 787s are really old and outdated, and I think the premium economy and Upper class cabins should be refurbished, if not the whole cabin.
I was on this flight a few weeks ago and I would AVOID, if I can. I’m a frequent flyer but virgin service is far from the best for this route. I guess you were lucky! For breakfast we got a cold slab of bread with one chunk of mozzarella and a slice of tomato. The crew had a passive aggressive attitude, slamming the trolley around and complaining of random personal things to passengers. The hot meal was actually raw. Although you can see from your own video the disintegrating pasta at 17:58. Jet Blue offers a far superior service and at times with very good value for money. Personally, I prefer avoiding JFK altogether and use air Canada so I can clear customs either in Toronto or Montreal, then connect to LGA’s new terminal. There are free buses to Jackson Heights/ Roosevelt Av.
"In my opinion", i prefering different intro for trip repport, just use the old elegant and eye catching map intro or the new one. But its up to you as far the inside of your video was great, im eager to see your video...i really enjoy your brutally honest. More alive Im indonesia, and Waiting you roasting GIA old Cabin😂😂😂 Ohhh sh*t the VIR entertainment system soo small, considering no refurbishement in the near future
@@johnnyelloco3822so you could say stingy if someone gave you a meal serving that was smaller than you’d usually expect then you could say “the restaurants being a bit stingy” or generally if any sort of food portions/groceries or let’s say product like bundles/items that have multiples are smaller than usual or expected then it could be used in that context. Sorry for the bad explanation, sincerely - a Brit.
I think a lot ofpeople were expecting this to be a bad review. Still looks better than most econony flights Ive been on including BA, AA , QANTAS. Emirates and Hawaiian deserve a good wrap. Something about Virgin thats great.
Their seats on the 350 and 330neo look much nicer. Just read a 2019 article about Virgin retrofitting their Dreamliners, hope they get that upgrade soon.
Although more expensive, I would’ve walked the 10 mins to Penn station from 23rd st and taken the much faster LIRR to Jamaica and taken the air train from there
I flew on the dreamliner from London to LA ans San Fransisco back to London back in 2017 and I found it to be quite cramped in regular economy. Mostly down to the box under the seat which did restrict legroom. The return flight was better as I used the self service check in to change my seat so I selected a window seat that had the middle seat free but someone booked on the aisle and it worked as once boarded there was no one sat between us. Found there was a decent selection of films to watch and food service was pretty decent as they were always coming down with snacks.
For your point at 5:27, there is a cheaper way to get into/from JFK. Miles In Transit has a short video doing that trip. Did the same myself back in February.
Wow 2 meals and a snack run on such a short flight. It's something I don't see too often anymore. As a matter of fact I just flew on my beloved BR trans-Pac and noticed they cut the snack service on the 12-hour flight already, compared to an exact same flight I took merely 2 months prior. The snack bar was also hiding in a dark corner away from the galley, to the point I almost missed it...
The thing that puts me off the daytime transatlantic flights is having to fork out NYC prices on a hotel to have to leave it at 4:30am to get a flight home...
The daytimes flights are great if London is the final destination. It's much harder to argue for if when you need a hotel before flying on the next day.
10:35 - Recently traveled in a 789 from LAX to LHR - This was the biggest dealbreaker - Constant search of foot space, competing with a stranger in the middle seat on an 11 hour overnight flight is painful
Guys I love the calendars! Just a tip for potential improvement, at least in my opinion: per each month and picture, maybe add some text stating the airline and/or where in the air that picture was taken. It would add an extra touch. Not sure you can mention airlines due to marketing reasons, but just saying. Keep up the good work, love this channel!
I really wanted to do that. I actually had the idea to custom design each page. Unfortunately the company that makes those calendars only offered this very restrictive template, where only the photo could be customized. I have been in contact with our provider and we’re trying to work out a way for 2026 to further customize each page design! :)
Flew this flight a few weeks back in 53D, one of the worst long haul flights I’ve been on. Dirty screen with dried on food, power adapters not working, constantly getting whacked by passengers and crew walking by, woken up by passengers trying to pass over the isle stepping on mine and the passengers in F and G feet, crew a mess trying to collect our trays 4 mins after serving them to us… Their A350 on the way out was a better experience but had very little leg room. Overall I prefer taking Air Canada LHR-NYC as I can bypass the overcrowded US immigration at JFK by getting pre clearance in Toronto or Montreal, and fly to LGA, this then also avoids the JFK “Air Trampa”. But if I flew direct, I will seriously think twice before choosing VS again, and would certainly take JetBlue or even BA over them.
You gotta do a LATAM flight review one. I just flew from auckland, NZ to brazil. 1st an 11flight with a stop in santiago, chile than 3hr to sao paulo. I'll say the most awkward part of the flight was the lack of english speaking flight crew. In those 4 flights(2 to brazil, 2 return) only in one of the flights they had a english speaking flight attendant which was very upseting.
@Simply Aviation the fact that there's currently no eastbound transatlantic daytime flights from JFK to Ireland (Dublin and Shannon), is actually shocking. I think there should be an offering from Aer Lingus in the future from JFK to Dublin & maybe Shannon. Maybe the Dublin flight leaves @ 8:30am/ET & the Shannon flight leaves just after 9am/ET, each flight would land in Ireland roughly between 7:30pm & 8pm (Irish time). If anyone here knows someone that has connections with Aer Lingus, pass my suggestion on. I believe this would be a game changer for Aer Lingus
Everyone talks about nut allergies but no one talks about soy allergies. Soy is in absolutely everything in america; its borderline unavoidable unless you make everything from scratch. More businesses need to cater to soy free rather than just nut free.
Daytime flight far better. Always try to take them. You can sleep in bed and make way to airport and go to bed other end in a bed. Rather than red eye where you are kicked out of your hotel at 10am and have to fill the day in with luggage handing around in a luggage room.
Awesome video so far. Just a note, at 3:50 the word 'stingy' is pronounced as sting-jee, sting as you pronounced it is a different word (ie. an angry bee would be stingy!)
Having tried all cabin classes in Virgin, I would argue that paying extra to fly in a cabin beyond the Economy Delight class is not worth it in terms of value for money
hard product wise, I have to say that their 787 is still very competitive to what the other UK carriers offer. The seat is very similar to what is found on Tui and Norse, and a lot of BA's fleet has cabins of the same age still. The only place that isn't really competitive is the business class, at least compared to what is found on the a350 and BA's new club suites, although, as for UK carriers, that is all there really is for business class cabins
I grew up on the east coast of the US and took a fair number of overnight flights to western Europe, but I moved out to the west coast in my 20s and now those same destinations are 10 hours away instead of 5. Since I have become a 40-something laydee who likes my sleep, I am often loath to book any transatlantic tickets with an east coast connection, much preferring a longer overnight flight if I can get it. I am very curious about these daytime east coast transatlantic flights and am surprised they're not more frequent. I'm guessing the current numbers take into account the amount of people who are coming in on connections, but is the percentage really that low? Inquiring minds!
I don't get the 787, it's a weird idea of a plane. It's not quite in the same league (size wise) as the 777's, the A350's etc, yet this weeny plane can fly from LHR - SYD non stop. It's basically around the same size as the 767, especially the 300's and 400. Personally, I would avoid this baby Boeing!
Honestly, I agresif withdrawals RUclips conclusion. Virgin Altantic would be a good option to fly on, with both the hard and soft product being good. Not over-the-top (Like SIA level), but also not crappy. I just hope that they just refurbish the IFE screen to be bigger (tbh honestly don’t rlly need too, that’s just me as a perfectionist heheh). 👍👍👍 NOW PLS FLY SINGAPORE AIRLINES 737 MAX 8, I recently flew it from Singapore to Penang, and I want to see your view compared to mine. ❤❤
I hate that inflight magazines and duty free is considered "old school" nowadays. All full-service airlines should have those, after covid cost-cutting became fashionable in the name of green washing and "sustainability". I hate wokeness.
I understand where you're coming from. Inflight magazines and duty-free shopping have a nostalgic charm and can enhance the travel experience. While sustainability and cost-cutting are important, it's also nice to have those little touches that make flying special. Hopefully, airlines can find a balance that keeps everyone happy
That was the excuse. Real reason is purely cost cutting and weight reduction ( do you have any idea how much over 300 magazines weigh? Lots more than you think)
