    You are right that "you all" is not correct, however, in the southern states (USA) it is commonly used. They also drop the "g" when they speak so they may say "How y'all doin' tonight?" It's just something they do and should be noted. On "Looking forward to meeting you" there is an unspoken understanding, I believe, that it is preceded by "I am". I think those are cultural nuances that makes a country interesting.

    If you want to sound like a natural English speaker you can say "you all" because we say it all the time! But if you want to be strictly correct then don't say it. Y'all decide for yourselves. 😉

  • @lexi2310
    @lexi2310 8 лет назад +7

    If you want to sound like a native english speaker then you can say "you all" because almost everybody uses it. Plus 'looking forward to meeting you' is used so many times in english speaking countries, everybody uses it.

    • @gboldero1
      @gboldero1 7 лет назад +1

      Lexi
      Actually you can't and it's not used in English speaking countries

    • @arpitsanghavi6381
      @arpitsanghavi6381 4 года назад

      Just because everybody uses it doesn't turn the incorrect thing into correct. It is still an error technically speaking.

  • @Caeexamtips
    @Caeexamtips 8 лет назад +5

    Wow. I disagree with a surprising amount of this. "I'd like to welcome you all" is an incredibly common phrase. "I'm looking forward to meeting you" is one hundred percent correct. Contractions in writing are perfectly fine depending on the context. "I could care less" isn't really logical but 50% of native speakers say it that way. So it's not really incorrect or dumb.

    • @MrRajeshkalia
      @MrRajeshkalia 4 года назад

      CAEexamtips I could care less is actually incorrect. Not everything that the native speakers speak is correct. It should actually be I couldn’t care less. It would mean that I care the least and can not care less than this. While i could care less means That I care a little and could care less

    • @Caeexamtips
      @Caeexamtips 4 года назад

      @@MrRajeshkalia Personally I hate the phrase 'I could care less' but when 150 million people say it every day, it transcends our temporary definition of correctness and as an intelligent person like yourself knows, language isn't always logical. From Macmillan: "The point about idioms is that that’s not how they work. Logic has no power here." From Miriam-Webster: "Correct Usage: Either"

  • @Outofmycastle
    @Outofmycastle 8 лет назад

    To say "you both" doesn't make you sound dumb, it's very common and not wrong according to many English teachers...However, probably "both of you" is more formal. You-all”-also occurring as “y'all”-is a second-person plural pronoun that occurs in some regional versions of US English. ... “All of you” is a noun-phrase that may be used in Standard English when the ambiguity of “you” by itself would be confusing or misleading

  • @marisolvalenzuelarubio2012
    @marisolvalenzuelarubio2012 7 лет назад

    We can actually use "you all" and "all of you" indistinctly, native english speakers don't even see the difference unless you were speaking to an english expert

      no you cannot use to meet, because look forward to is a phrase with to as a preposition. so after a prep, you need to use Ving. you can check with Oxford dictionary

    • @chaberwil13
      @chaberwil13 8 лет назад +2

      You should say " We look forward to meeting you." It's like asking what do we look forward to? that means we answer with a noun like "party" or "meeting friends." We use a gerund not a verb with 'look forward to.'

    I stop watching after one minute because she is complete wrong, at least for American English. In American English, you is singular, as it should be. "You all," is the plural second person pronoun. So, "you all" is correct. I understand that people are moving toward "you guys," but I feel that is wrong as well.
