This is a report of the Dorestad Raid 2020 (september). Many small Sail and Oar boats got together at Z’eiland in Heeg. Even though Corona was going through the country, the rules and the space on the island allowed us to have this trip.
1:58 sailing canoe, steering with only a paddle
3:38 many different type of sail and oar boats, doing their thing
4:59 sailing canoe upwind on Heegermeer, then surfing downwind
5:51 participant interviews
8:45 sailing canoe capsize, righting the boat, then emergency repair coming off, rudder broken again, good fun!

Dit is het verslag van de Dorestad Raid 2020 (september). Veel kleine bootjes tezamen op het Z’eiland in Heeg. Zelfs met Corona konden we door in de regels door de ruimte op het Z'eiland toch varen.
1:58 zeilkano, sturen met alleen de peddel
3:38 roei en zeilbootjes die hun ding doen
4:59 aan de wind, lagerwal op Heegermeer, daarna lekker naar beneden surfen
5:51 interviews met deelnemers
8:45 omslaan met de zeilkano, leeghozen, roer weer kapot maar gewoon door, dikke pret.

It was a pleasure to see so many different small boats and also so many older sailors out and about enjoying the water which has to be a great inspiration.
Thanks, many with a sports background, but too young to quit, even at 80 plus years old!

Hey Koos love your video with the lovely smiling Dutch people sailing small boats. Would they welcome a more ordinary plastic sailing kayak (2014 Hobie Adventure Island) on this Raid next year . Seems like the perfect boat for that environment.
Yes the Hobie is great for this, maybe a bit wide? Love their pedel system, so clever. Welcome for sure. I'm not the organiser, but via natuurlijkvaren.nl you can find all the info. Places do fill up soon, as many people return ... :)
@@CanoesailorThanks. I just want to sail on the beautiful lakes and waterways of Holland. It looks endless and wonderfully complex. So perfect for long sailing camping trips. I have got to do it soon. I bet the weather can be a bit changeable though.
The AI can retract its outriggers (Aka's) for narrow spaces and still pedal. Not sure if it can sail like this as I have never tried. Probably won't work as the Aka's point outwards and flare a bit when retracted. I love the way that you carry everything you need in such a small boat. It sails beautifully though. Hobie's have their share of rudder related problems as well such as the steering lines breaking internally so the kayaking paddle suddenly becomes very useful! The worst thing is you can't see the steering lines gently wearing away.
@@sunshipsailing H, normally there is plenty space in friesland, check out the Raid NL video too, where we went out with 4 boats, 5 days, 200 km, with North wind and great weather!
I wonder how it is possible to take part. It's quite interesting to sail your area.

Thanks, this was a movie from september 2019, when masks were not required or thought much about, we were in a farm where we could distance, so yes we took care. Always difficult, following the rules, but also living your life.

I've seen the link but it's in Dutch so I didn't understand much. Do you know the design of the vessel?
@@elbamax it is originally a Kuperus rowing sloop that was converted with a peddling mechanism and two Finn rigs. More info about this particular boat on www.natuurlijkvaren.nl/boten/r-s-t-u-v-w/wuptum/. Search for 'kuperus sloep 660' if you want to know more about the original boat.
