    A good quality OTF is such a practical EDC, from a user stand point. Easy one hand operation, and a reliable mechanism makes them an oddly more safe option than almost any folder. But, people are terrified by switchblades, and it is so annoying! They are just tools, the same as other knives. Thank you for Helping to show people that the noise shouldn't be scary, and any flipper knife opens just as fast, so what is the big deal.

    I've been on a Microtech buying spree past 6 months-- 4 Cyphers, 4 Combat Troodons, etc etc-- I just bought my first Ultratech 3 weeks ago for EDC-- exact one in this video w Bronzed blade. Loved it so much I got a second one-- OD Green handle w S/E stonewashed M390 blade. Pretty much my perfect EDC knife. Been carrying folding knives for years and have a collection of 50+ folders, but I've just been on a serious Microtech kick past 6 months. Really love the Ultratech.

I actually ended up buying over 15 more Microtechs since this video--- including a Marfione Custom Combat Troodon w a Blued Damascus Blade and Carbon Fiber handle.That one is on display in my living room. I now have around 25 Microtechs!! I have them stored away with all my other knives at home and nice to just take out and experience the wonderful craftsmanship. Have a great Holidays.

    It’s wild for me to stumble across these old videos because the old truck videos moved me to buy my only two ZT knives I own currently and they were the Hinder designed eclipse harpoon spanto and XM 18 slicer designs. Thanks to your truck reviews you added fuel to my love of knives! Hope you see this comment in a very old video that I stumbled back across again.

    MC, I'm gonna need you to go to the grocery store and buy a tube of Emerald Almonds... eat the almonds or whatever... but use the empty tube in the cup holder of your car as a coin container. I've found that, on average, the thing holds $40-50 of loose random denomination coins

    Hello Metal complex, I have been subbed to your channel for a while but just came across this video a couple of days ago, I watch the video and I ordered me this exact knife but I got the Ultratech DE bronze standard. I just had FedEx drop it off to me and I agree with everything you said, this is an absolutely amazing knife and looking at it in pictures or on a video does no justice to it. It feels solid, I am very impressed! Just wanted to thank you for the video, your video is the reason I ordered this knife and I am ecstatic!!!! Thanks brother!!!

    the finish is done by heating the blade with a torch and then using a wire wheel and rotary tool to transfer the brass from the wire wheel to the blade. if it comes off you can repair the damaged finish at home.

      I am pretty sure that this process is exceeding the temper temperature for m390. I am curious as to what the resulting change of hrc will be on the bronzed blades.

    I just purchased an ultratech 121-10 just to have one. I purposely purchased a single edged version because I prefer utility over offensive use. I have seen enough people with microtechs or heretics so I figured I should experience at least one in my life and if I am going to only buy one OTF then mayby the ultratech is the best option with its reputation.

  • @ScottieG59
    @ScottieG59 5 лет назад +4

    Microtech OTFs sometimes have the twang too. It is cured with a small dab of grease on the spring. Recently, I learned the Troodon is named after the dinosaur, which is pronounced trO-Odon (long O sound). Supposedly, they were the most intelligent dinosaur. Though OTFs are interesting, it is tough to be stealthy with them. Also, as a design that will collect debris, the warranty prohibitions of disassembly is worrisome. Still, I am also an OTF fan.

  • @Mrplacedcookie
    @Mrplacedcookie 5 лет назад +5

    OTFs answer to a Glock. Personally I like the Troodon. But the Ultratech fires hard and are good value. Love my UtX-70.

    I’ve got the older style ultratech with the boxier design and I’ll warn you that once they start to go bad on ya, they will jam constantly.. I can fix it if I take it apart and reset everything but within a few presses of the switch, it sticks with the blade out and won’t let you retract it. Hopefully the newer ones have ironed out those kinks..

    Hey guys I’m new to microtech and otfs looking at the utx 85 and Ultratech. I see M390 CTS204p and CTS XH AS WELL As ELMAX, what is the best to grab for everyday carry? Someone mentioned not to buy from pvk Vegas. Where would you recommend if not them? I was literally about to purchase from them. Is this better than a para 2? I like the look much more of a microtech personally though .

    • @metal_complex
      @metal_complex  5 лет назад +1

      For an edc knife, it's all going to be about preference. The PM2 will serve you just as well, but if you like the auto, get it. Better to scratch that itch the first time around. As far as steel, m390 and 204p are the same steel. They'll all serve you well, and you probably wont notice the difference. Elmax is going to he the toughest, and m390/204 will be the most edge retentative. XHP is inbetween (for lack of a much more detailed explanation.) Hope that helps!

      Metal Complex thank you for the response where would you order it from? I’m in Ca and I know I can have an ultra tech in the house we’re going to a knife and firearm friendly state so it won’t concern me for long. I had just read a gentleman stating not to buy from pvk Vegas when I had seen one I liked on that site. Is there anything that I should know? I’m very nit picky as well and want a quality blade and unit. Is the M390 a better batch compared to the American version? Thank you again looking to thumb the trigger so I look forward to hearing from you.

    • @metal_complex
      @metal_complex  5 лет назад

      Not sure about the difference in individual heat treatment, but the composition is nearly identical. I've never noticed a difference between 204p/20cv/m390. I prefer to buy from DLT Trading. Very fast and very reliable.

    People that just want to carry a weapon? Maybe I'm a minority but I've been carrying a lightning elite for a year now. I use it every day on the farm doing things that it was never meant to do. I don't look for a knife if I'm looking for a deadly weapon. I carry something else for that. I just purchased a m390 step side signature series ultratech it should be here the beginning of next week. It's my first 'expensive knife' Hopeful it's all over wanted. I got a lightning to see if an otf would work with my lifestyle and so far it's a great knife with bad steel

    • @disturbedgod42
      @disturbedgod42 5 лет назад +1

      @@mackhomie6 normally would agree with you yes they arent as reliable if you want to cut logs in half but it greatly depends on your intended use for your blade I purchased OTFs because it allows for certain benifits that some others dont have for tactical use. I now own a Combat Troodon an ultratech & a Cypher either one in a combat situation would serve you well. All you have to do is maintain it just like any other tool never had a failure to fire or deploy and were talking thousands of deployments not a single failure. My blades are intended for CQC I have others I use for cutting tasks or edc. I owned a lightning OTF which is super cheap but I have kicked the crap out of it and it has also never failed after over 10k deployments easy and its 30$ what do you think 500$+ gets you?
