It's kind of crazy how old everything looks wioth the brick and all. They got lucky with this place. It's sad to see some of the buildings not being repurpossed though, but it could be that they're keeping it free to film in again.
Gwinnett Place WAS a dying mall (county/city purchased it recently). It was one of the largest malls, but Sugarloaf (formerly Discover) and Mall of Georgia in Buford ate into the market. Now it’s just a Korean grocery store left, and the rest of the mall has been closed off. They were using it as a testing site for… well, you know. The actors said it was sketchy when they filmed there too, as if it has something ominous about it. I had visited it back in late 2017 in like October or November with my now ex gf. We entered the mall at about 8 PM and it was dark (not sure if it’s because they closed at that time or what), like suspiciously dark as if they forgot to pay the light bill… couldn’t see 10 ft in front of you. She complained that we should go home because she didn’t feel right about it, so we did. I ended up coming across a news piece in January or February 2018 where they had found a homicide victim in the food court at Subway, and the dude that did it fled to NY. Kinda creepy because of the timeframe and the circumstances.
i'm not sure if you know the history of gwinnett place mall, but it was very bustling when i was growing up. being in the middle of duluth, the location was ideal. however, a few shootings happened there that resulted in deaths... and after that, people were told to stay away. there was also a girl found dead at subway after having been there for days and i'm not sure if they ever solved her case. some malls die over time, it's inevitable.. but gwinnett place has always had an ominous feeling attached to it. i think the duffer brothers scouted out the perfect location for such catastrophic scenes.
@@Waynetech814 yup discover mills now sugarloaf mills killed Gwinnett place. They never updated and it just kept declining because of that I remember when I was in middle and high school when it was still busy. It was wild to see it in stranger things gave me so much nostalgia
i've lived near Gwinnett Place mall from 2014-17. around 2014-2015 the mall was active, at least more than it is now. every space inside had a store except for maybe 2 and it was a good mall. never really understood as to why it even had a decline in the first place. but judging on the comment above mine, i would assume that sugarloaf mills is the leading reason as to why it started to die. been there myself and it most certainly had better interior and more interesting stores. airsoft area, detective game area, an entire area dedicated to bass pro fishing, movie theatre that was actually very good, a medieval showcase area (not too sure what it is i havent been inside of it). my only reason i would go to sugarloaf was that it had a gamestop, something that gwinnett place lacked. last time i've been to the dying mall was 2018. there was a festival in the parking lots nearby, caught a glimpse of the mall and there wasnt even that many cars to begin with, this was around the busiest times it would normally have when i remembered it. apparently the mall closed down in 2021. not even stranger things filming there could save the malls death
I thought it was the Mall of GA that helped lead to its death. I live 20 min from Gwinnett Place and 10 min from Sugarloaf Mills. Sugarloaf isn't that impressive to me. It's sad to see Gwinnett abandoned like that cuz it was the place to go when I was a teenager and I have a lot of fond memories of that place.
@@jackiekreutzer166 yes mall of ga contributed to its death as well however sugarloaf mills was closer to Gwinnett place mall and compared to Gwinnett place mall , had much better stuff like a better food court, a movie theater, an indoor trampoline and even a indoor carousel among many other stuff that sadly Gwinnett place mall didn’t have
The fact that the duffer brothers found a town with exactly the right abandoned buildings to use for hospitals, stores and labs. Usually shows or movies with this high of budget fly out to different parts of the country and try to create towns with building possibly being 1000s of miles away irl
Yea that’s the good thing about filming in Atlanta and neighboring suburbs/cities, you get a lot of bang for your buck. They really got lucky on Gwinnett Place Mall though as it was never really updated and was half closed when they filmed.
Being stranger things my favorite show of all time now, it’s fun to watch this video of you touring us on the filming locations they had used. Thank you for creating this video, really enjoyed it and hoping that I could visit all of them soon❤️

13:25 I actually stopped by the school in 2016 before Season 1 came out (had no clue). One of my parents went to that exact school back in the 80's when it was a high school, so we got a kick out of seeing it on Stranger Things! I need to go back there sometime just because. 😄
This is crazy! I live in the UK so there’s a low chance of me visiting these locations but seems like some cool places to go see (especially if your a super fan like me lol)

@@destiniecascendra8289 this is genuinely sad. They could of had so much potential out of all of these things like having tours and doing things up to make it look and feel like you are in the real show. As a big stranger things nerd I am quite dissapointed in the lack of effort they put in afterwards.
That's why they used these locations. They get to use the space for super cheap, and don't have to pay to repair anything since the properties are already acheduled to be demolished.
The Hawkins lab and Hawkins middle/high school will both be demolished sometime within 2023 to 2024. Thats my guess. I think the hold up is cause they'll be used 1 last time for season 5. Many visits. Going to make more before these changes take place.
The mega mart at Gwinnett place mall is one of the largest Korean stores in America. The cast of Stranger Things used to eat dumplings from the food court there and also get pastries and coffee from the bakery inside.
That's why I waited so I can binge watch all seasons in one go. I knew the time would come when I wanted to go back to my 80s childhood since I actually lived it. I'm turning 40 and it's fitting I think. Lol
I don’t get why a small town would allow these important landmarks to just deteriorate like this. You’d think they would be a large tourist draw to the area.
Living in Atlanta I have been on a bunch of movie sets including Avengers Infinity War and Fast and Furious. I can tell you that they will fix an abandoned building up for filming then remove everything they added after they are done filming at that location. An Avengers scene was shot on a downtown street and the film crew put up fake store exteriors down the entire street on top of existing businesses. I had to go through one of the fake facades to go to a corner store I shopped at.
This was a great video!! Actually living in the first area you went to and seeing other ppl actually come here is crazy. I remember seeing tons of movie trailers that were in our town for like months and one of my friends was actually In one of the pool scenes in season 3. Great job on the video!!
Fun fact: the Pennhurst Asylum set from Season 4 is actually the college my sister went to! It’s called Berry College in Rome, Georgia. The asylum was the first-year dorms I think.
That blocked off area is the food court. I actually walked through there when they’re were making the set but didn’t realize it was for stranger things.
I started going to Gwinnett Place Mall in the 80s. Sad that's its a shell of its former self. A girl was murdered in the food court and left there for days where they filmed most of those scenes. The area blocked off was the main area where they shot the book store (it really was a book store) and store that Seven shopped at. The entrance is also when they came running in from the cars. Down below was the food court. Everything was filmed in that small area.
I used to go to Gwinnett Place mall in the mid/late 80's. It was a very nice mall then. The Mall of Georgia in Buford, GA hurt Gwinnett Place mall when it was built.
Its crazy how you actually got let into the community pool by one of the staff if I am correct. I am surprised that this video has also 65K views 1.9K likes and you only have 439 subscribers! The only place in Douglasville (Lithia Springs really) I haven't been to is Tiffany's (Benny's Burgers) I've been in the old building where the Police Dept. is and I've been in the building the Arcade and Family Video are in. And I went to BOTH of them in the 80's. Lol I'm serious though, I grew up in Douglasville.
Feels so unreal that you actually go to the filming locations and would be so cool to go to see them one day! and honestly I would of walked up to the house and asked to check the place out. Also appreciate the video man!
This is so well done, loved every scene and all of the sights you got to visit. Very cool, thank you so much. Thank you for also including the awesome music. Fantastic!
Someone visitied the mall just before or after they were filming. A huge part was sectioned off and when he peeked behind it (and I think he could even get in) there were all the 80s stores and the Starcourt Mall sign etc.
Aside from Hawkins Lab I've been to almost every location they filmed at in Georgia. I may be missing 1 or 2. I used to deliver the traffic control equipment for that, along with MacGuyver, a lot of Marvel movies, TWD, erc.
Another place you can visit is the Peachtree Mall in Columbus GA, it's a lot more open, more stores and much more space within the mall, but shootings happen at the mall pretty often. You can probably visit it but it doesn't resemble Starcourt Mall much, still a pretty good mall to compare Starcourt to :)
I remember the mental hospital, I worked there in the late 1980's. Most of the big malls are dead or dying in Georgia. Small towns do not change as quickly as the larger cities.
Films often edited color, trees and other things into the film with computer software so yes, thats the real deal and also movie sets but we know all know about that haha. Very cool video!
It is a fact that everyone is feeling nostalgic to all these places. While in reality, most of us haven't even visited any of these. This is what watching an incredible series is worth of. And I love & appreciate this video bruh :) Thank you for showing all these places. Really brings back some great memories ❤️

i'm not sure if you know the history of gwinnett place mall, but it was very bustling when i was growing up. being in the middle of duluth, the location was ideal. however, a few shootings happened there that resulted in deaths... and after that, people were told to stay away. there was also a girl found dead at subway after having been there for days and i'm not sure if they ever solved her case. some malls die over time, it's inevitable.. but gwinnett place has always had an ominous feeling attached to it. i think the duffer brothers scouted out the perfect location for such catastrophic scenes.
Bro I literally live around here and the mall died down because of sugarloaf mills which was bigger and better Gwinnett place mall was outdated
I agree. Season 3, the one with mostly Russians and not D and d monsters from a different dimension is definitely the most unrealistic one.
And best one
Being stranger things my favorite show of all time now, it’s fun to watch this video of you touring us on the filming locations they had used. Thank you for creating this video, really enjoyed it and hoping that I could visit all of them soon❤️
imagine living in the city where they filmed the biggest show in the world. wow.
Which city???
@@sagarmore4200 hawkins bro
@@sagarmore4200 the city they filmed at is atlanta
@@shayins hopefully your joking

I imagine this is what starcourt would look like 40 years on from when the show was set, which makes the show feel more real.
Family video is also on the season 4.. Has this place been used for that?
I was always and continue to be geeked out about how they get the cars the clothes and the props. That must be a monumental undertaking.
It’s honestly like seeing the locations from the show years later like they actually where apart of real life history
When I was in elementary school we couldn't go to recess one day cus they say they needed our playground for filming
this is so nostalgic!! just finished rewatching stranger things and i cannot wait for s4!!!
Volume 2 😭 and then I’m gonna be sad waiting 2 years for season 5
i live in the mecca of where this was filmed and the school is in Stockbridge GA it used to be Patrick Henry High School but has been decommissioned so now its just been used for filming also in Jackson in the ally way where Steve and Jonathan fight in the background you can see a place called "rental solutions" and its and actual business i have personally used multiple times
13:25 I actually stopped by the school in 2016 before Season 1 came out (had no clue). One of my parents went to that exact school back in the 80's when it was a high school, so we got a kick out of seeing it on Stranger Things! I need to go back there sometime just because. 😄
Ur the goat for making this dude
This is crazy! I live in the UK so there’s a low chance of me visiting these locations but seems like some cool places to go see (especially if your a super fan like me lol)
same hahaha
Loved this video, I wish all this places had the same 80s energy they have in the series
I find them very lost in time actually 😄
they should rebrand it as starcourt mall and make it look like in the show, would definetly safe it.
Would it make people stop buying their stuff on amazon and other online sites? I doubt it.
@@kenbrunet6120 amazon and box stores have killed malls and small shops.. I don't shop on amazon, its a scam company.. Walmart where I live has ended the midway mall and 90% of smaller shops.
No it wouldn't. Malls are a dying breed. pretty soon there arent going to be any malls left
@@TheReviewerFilms soon there won't be anything left because of the internet, walmart and capital greed.
It was sold last year. And I doubt Netflix is gonna spend their profit to buy an old mall.
This video combined with your voice is perfect
Stranger things makes me want to have lived during the 80s 🥺
happy to be your 500th subscriber!
I’m very thankful for you lol.
Awesome video! Thank you! I'm so excited for Season 4!
Wow that’s so cool!! That’s incredible you got to see all those places from the show. Hopefully one day I can see them in person too!
Why do I miss 80's when I wasn't even born in that era🥲
so do i..
Serial killers miss you too. (It's a joke)
If you were born in the USA or European countries, you are already incredibly lucky. Even now.
@@финик-с6ч I agree
It was an amazing decade to be a kid.
You would of thought that after a massive hit tv show the "Starcourt Mall" location would of gotten a bit more income to do it up again. I am defo going to some of these places in the future though
They are demolishing Hawkins middle school:(
And I think the mall got demolished as well
@@destiniecascendra8289 this is genuinely sad. They could of had so much potential out of all of these things like having tours and doing things up to make it look and feel like you are in the real show. As a big stranger things nerd I am quite dissapointed in the lack of effort they put in afterwards.
@@eleanorhesketh6117 👍
I would kill just to feel the feeling of watching this masterpiece for the first time again!!
That's why I waited so I can binge watch all seasons in one go. I knew the time would come when I wanted to go back to my 80s childhood since I actually lived it. I'm turning 40 and it's fitting I think. Lol
butts county water and sewage authority isn't a business.....its where you pay your water bill. Jackson is in Butts County.
I don’t get why a small town would allow these important landmarks to just deteriorate like this. You’d think they would be a large tourist draw to the area.
What the WHAT ????????
Why do you call them "landmarks" ?? Because they're in a popular series ??
Just did this today with my nephew, we had the best time and it was so cool to see these in person!
Damnnn, cooool.
You live in Douglasville ??
Love all the music in this video. Miss the 80’s.
I need the starcourt mall
Fun fact: the Pennhurst Asylum set from Season 4 is actually the college my sister went to! It’s called Berry College in Rome, Georgia. The asylum was the first-year dorms I think.
The Vecna house is there, too. It's called The Claremont House in real life. Rome, GA.
That blocked off area is the food court. I actually walked through there when they’re were making the set but didn’t realize it was for stranger things.
The house that seems like it will play a HUGE role in the new season is in my town :) its super cool to me. Some of my friends even met Gaten!
Great video! So cool seeing the real locations! Such a shame about the mall in real life. I hope the series helps to bring life back to it
I started going to Gwinnett Place Mall in the 80s.
This video was great and the recognition that it's getting is under whelming you deserve more subscribers and likes.
Why does this video not have more attention wtffff, you did an amazing job with the attention to detail🔥🔥🔥thank you for making this fr. *I’m clapping rn*
( I bet you got to see the sauna room😭😭)
Nice video! Gwinnett Place reminds me of Metro Center mall before its downfall here in Phoenix, AZ, also Maryvale Mall back in the early 90's
I hope COVID 19 didn’t hurt these businesses too much. I would love to visit one day.
As someone from Douglasville, it's cool to know we had some impact on the show.
The only place in Douglasville (Lithia Springs really) I haven't been to is Tiffany's (Benny's Burgers)
I've been in the old building where the Police Dept. is and I've been in the building the Arcade and Family Video are in. And I went to BOTH of them in the 80's. Lol
I'm serious though, I grew up in Douglasville.
Really cool Video, greetings from Germany
This is so awesome! Thanks for all the work and travel that went into this video!
Feels so unreal that you actually go to the filming locations and would be so cool to go to see them one day! and honestly I would of walked up to the house and asked to check the place out. Also appreciate the video man!
Probably not a good idea. Those signs are there for a reason. They don’t want to be bugged
I live it Smyrna Georgia and I love Strangers Things and to know it was filmed so close to home makes it so much better.
Your youtube account was created the day before I was born
The filming location of all the families is right behind my house in Tucker GA. I didn't even realize it when I saw it!
How the hell do you only have 1k subs this is very high quality videos 👍👍
So all the filming was in Georgia?!
Really brings back some great memories ❤️
i find it really crazy actually have visited some of these places and stayed near. and currently in Loganville georgia there is a road near me, they are filming something there with fake storefronts and ice cream shop. I don’t live there full time but i see it when i go.
i’m not aware of what their filming but who knows it could be season 5 stuff 🤷♂️
Porque RUclips me recomienda este vídeo después de casi 2 años? Es una Maravilla!🔥
What an amazing video!! Really enjoyed seeing all the locations
Good job on this film, young man. I live on the NW outskirts of Atlanta, so the town names are familiar to me. Yes! You need to be very careful going into particular parts of the city. Very sketchy. To me these days, malls are just depressing in general. But thanks for the nice quiet ride showing different parts of the show's recording areas. I enjoyed your film.
If u from Gwinnett u know this mall was never used tbh. Gwinnett is the most populated and famous county in Ga. It's not that odd to me that they used this mall for the show
@@Vinnie_956
You spelled Fulton wrong kid.
Gwinett ain't as famous as you'd like to think it is. If anything it's got a pretty bad rep for the dumbass drivers and their crappy sense of "entitlement"
I went to that mall in 2005. It was completely full and there were people everywhere. So sad to see it empty and run down
I really think they should have preserved these places. It could have given the town a huge boost of tourism and been great for fans!
Ahh the former Gwinnet Place Mall I remember going there as a kid I never expected that I would become a location for a movie
This is an awesome video! Stranger Things is my favorite show! I wish I lived closer to the Atlanta area so I could easily visit these locations! I’d love to meet the cast too
Wow I can’t believe this video got hardly any views anyway thanks for giving us a tour and I loved watching this video
450k isn't bad lol
I lived in Atlanta at the time the show was set. The Mall was perfect!
i appreciate this video man, thanks alot.
AAAAAAHHHHHHHHH IM IN GOERGIA IDK IF I SHOULD BE HAPPY OR SCARED
Hopper’s cabin is made into an escape room at escape woods in powder springs ga. This is also where they filmed the rotting pumpkin farm scenes.
Please please please, anyone watching this wanting to go see these locations; please be careful and DO NOT bother any locals about the show. Peace and love ✌️
Wow amazing thanks ☺️ I just finish watching today the last chapter of part 4
At 1:05, what teams baseball stadium is that to the far right? Just curious.
It used to be Turner Field, home of the Braves, but Georgia State University bought it a few years ago and it’s now a stadium for the GSU Panthers. Fun fact, I graduated in that stadium. The Braves play at Truist Park in Marietta now.
I actually live in Georgia and from here originally and it was so amazing to hear they filmed in this state. I would love to visit it one day when I have time.
this is really good, well done!!
Family video is in season 4 too. Wonder if they used the same building again.
Really great job! You should have way more views ;)
Got to visit most of these locations 2 years ago when I was on a trip for baseball down in Atlanta, super super cool. Surreal
