Yes you can. All an aftermarket radio needs is Power, Ground, and Ignition-on. It can then be used as your main source. I know what you mean, but it's super simple to add an aftermarket and build a small enclosure (or even leave it out, very popular in the SPL community as you can't be in your vehicle for certain competitions.) One option is to mount it under your center arm rest and it's hidden from thieves.
@@Kelocyde You've never owned a Hellcat lol. A lot of tuning (suspension, ignition timing, fuel maps, etc) are accessed through the uconnect system., There is not yet an aftermarket head that will display or interact with that unfortunately. BUT, replacing the head unit is no longer necessary. DSP makes life easy.
@@Frindleeguy What about using a good HU with a Maestro RR datalink? I dont know about a hellcat but it restores a LOT of factory options on aftermarket HUs on other makes of vehicles.
I hear ya man !! With all the can bus computer wiring , its not the same plug and play that it used to be ! I actually prefer cars from the 70s, 80s and early 90s !!
I had the same problem with my Cruze in the backseat. The sound was low and blocked by people's legs. I had my dude cut the wires and instead of replacing them I put 6x9s on the rear deck. Sounds amazing now. Everything is Addictive Audio and that 10 inch slams harder than I thought it would.
I´m the owner of a mazda 2013 and change all speakers with focal in the doors, in the back panel also focal and was instaled a bazooka nakamichi 8 inches... very nice sound... the problem is not to high volume but the sound is very good!!! 6 focal speakers and one bazuuka...

awesome speaker's... unfortunately down here in Arizona a really good pair of focal components cost about $1,000.00 dollars way to expensive so im using Alpine type r which are really nice for the price.Have yourself an awesome day and like always great video 👍👍
Car Audio.etc What do you think about crescendo mids? not sure if they are available where you're at but very affordable down here and i hear they are pretty good
I've had the PS-165fx running in my Mitsi for around a year and the sound is unbelievable, crystal clear highs and pumping mids powered through deh-80prs head deck and amped. Now waiting to see this week if they can fit into my Nissan, but only going to run off the head deck (Pioneer AVH-X8850BT) , fingers crossed they fit with the crossovers and sound good. You should come and set up in Auckland we need a decent installer.
I was thinking to put the crossovers underneath the dash. Find the right wires straight after the standard HU, cut them (just cables which are going to the doors as tweeter cable wont be used)and put crossovers. There is a lot of room there and no need to need to squeeze the cable between the door and the car. I'm talking about the same car of course.
I can't understand how people spend the money on a great set of speakers and don't amplify them. Would've made more sense to get some cheaper speakers and spend the extra money on an amplifier. Loved the install though! You always do great work and it pains me to see you install something with high quality and not get the best sound out of something at that price. I'm sure the customer will realize an amp would make a world of difference.
is focal the best sound system in the market right now ? better than Bang & Olufsen ? i have a Mustang 2015 shaker pro (which the mentioned it has 12 speakers) i wanted to change it to Focal cuz the shaker pro is the shit pro i have 1 subwoofer in the back .. but i dunno what focal sound system is the best ?!

I've used this video as a kind of guide when I was upgrading speakers in my Mazda 2. I don't know how much improvement was with CX3, but in my case I'm unhappy with the result. I've deadened front door and installed Focal PS165v1, which are predecessors of FX's. High tones improved but door speakers are very quiet now and the bass were bad with original paper ones and is still bad with the Focal. Audio still sound like on small portable audio. I've assumed that amplifier in CX3 would be the same as in 2, so it should handle with mine speakers as well. I'll try to remove woofer crossover (there are 2 separate ones instead of 1) and see if there is any difference.
Looking to upgrade the speakers in my 2015 Jeep Wrangler. I currently have the Alpine ilx-007 with CarPlay but have basic speakers. What would you recommend in the Focal name brand for the fronts and sound bar. I have a powered sub under the front seat. Trying to stay under 1200 for all 4 speakers and and amp if truly needed. Thanks...love the videos!

Does the sound deadening stand up well to water?, I'm thinking of when it rains a lot will the water just run over the top of the sound deadening in the door panels without it unpealing
absolutely as long as you clean the panel first with some sort of alcohol to remove any grease or dirt. Heating the metal up before application also helps with the adhesion of the deadening. its very tackey material so water has no affect on it once its appl;ied properly.

i have a 2017 mazda 3 hatchback and i can vouch for your experience with the stereo. i set the amps to give max power at volume 40 instead of going closer to the max volume of 63 to aid in controlling the volume control from the factory unit. the eq on the high end also sucks.

Question about Alternator whine. I have focal krx3 front, focal k2p rear and kx 27 in custom box behind rear passenger seat. I was driving just the fronts and sub with Focal FPD 600.4 (no alt whine )but changed that out to the FPD 900.6 and now I have an alternator whine. I didn't have it before, or I don't believe I did? The ground position and wiring is the same, under passenger seat on bare metal. The amp and radio (pioneer 720bt) are grounded to the same bolt. This is in a 2006 Toyota Tundra. Any thoughts on where it might be coming from? I am starting to believe its the new amp, as I backtracked all my wiring and all the power wires (focal 8 gauge wiring) are nicely separated from speaker wires (focal 14 gauge wires), rcas (knu koncepts) etc up until it gets to amp. If the car is on aux/acc engine off crystal clear btw. ps I am considering putting in a dsp at some point and wonder if that may clean it up? I am considering DSP for the Time alignment mainly, but people say it makes 320 mp3 and FLAC sound better as well? Thanks for any thoughts
Alternator/engine whine in most cases is due to the RCAS or for the speaker channels or the speaker wires themselves being to close to an amplifier power wire or a vehicles factory loom. The rule of thumb I go by is this; - Avoid having power wires and RCAS/speaker wires within a foot (30cm) of each other for as long as possible. - If they must be within this proximity of each other, no more than a foot of length of the wires can be parallel. - They can come close to each other as long as they are not parallel (i.e. they can cross over each other) The reason for this is that power wires emit an electric field around them from the current going through them. The RCAs even when shielded well, have very little voltage on them (1-5V) and next to no current, so the signal is very seseptible to external electric fields or (noise) and wind up sending the wave being emitted by the power cable into the signal input of the amp where is is amplified and sent to the speakers. As for this only happening when you changed the amp, I would doubt that it is the amp itself causing the issue, though it is not impossible. Make sure all your wire running is up to spec as I have listed above, and that both your amp and your battery, have really good ground connections to the chassis, with NO PAINT in-between the ring terminal and the chassis. Hope this helps Good Luck
Thanks for the detailed rundown, I have everything run exactly as you mention, power down center of vehicle and rca's and speaker wires down outer side of vehicle. They only meet up at the amp. The RCAs I bought were from KnuKonceptz and they were purchased because I thought my original set may have been the issue, but it didn't change anything. The ground area was cleaned with a power grinder before mounting so no paint/primer or rust there. Good solid mount location. That's why I am thinking it may be the amp itself? I guess I can switch it out to another amp and see if that changes anything. Lastly, what's your thoughts on DSP, like Helix Pro or Mosconi 6to8, are they worth it as to what they do for digital music? I think my flac and 320mp3 sound pretty good but if a dsp does it better I would consider it. But it's a lot of money for an unknown benefit as I don't know what it will do for my music? Cheers and Happy Holidays!!
I sadly havnt had the opportunity to work with any high end dsps because as you say they are super expensive for what they do. I tend to swing more toward the high end stereo side of things, like my pioneer avhx8850bt has 13 band eq, time allignment, 3 way crossover and an auto eq and TA measuring system built straight into it, which in my opinion is enough to correct any accoustic issues you may have in a vehicle. Obviously i still highly regard sound deadening though.
I have no patience for music snobs. Nickelback is awesome, don’t be a sheep! I know for a fact that intelligence is connected to music taste. Do not become one of those “people” friends... It is normally from Dimmu Borgir(and likwise death metal/satanist) fans anyway.
WHY do my speakers blow and smell burnt for the 2nd time 🤦♂️ i had c5's coax in front and focals165f coax in back with a JL HD 600/4 WHY DO THEY KEEP BURNING
Possible a setting in the menu of the car. Turning up sound to cancel driving noise when you drive. That shit starts turning up tweeters and messing around with the sound. Turn it of, then the stereo function like it`s suppose to.
you can make changes, but it costs money. First, get an EQ or what some today call a "Factory intigrator. then stuff your brain inthere and ake is sound good
Lenton Check your head unit for its wattage output as well as your speakers for their RMS ratings Head units can provide enough wattage for most smaller speakers. For example, I have 4 Focal 4” mid range speakers which are 40 watts RMS, and my head unit has 50 watts x 4 channels, so it has plenty of power to do those speakers. However my door woofers can handle 80 watts RMS, and if I wanted to push that much it would need to be through an external amp. If you are set on using an amp for all your speakers, make sure it has enough channels, and the wattage it puts out on each channel isn’t too much for your speakers. If that’s the case, then the speaker wires should be run from the amp to the speakers.
Streaming it’s not the best way to listen music on car, WAV, FLAC -> Through USB, yes. I want listen quality! Is no point me to buy expensive speakers and stream mp3 from phone after, then need go for Alpine or JBL, or Kenwood, don’t know..
I have a 10 year old Focal 165V1 compo in my car (front door), powered by an (genesis) amp, and crossover in my alpine 9855r headunit is at 60Hz (steep). Why? cause I regularly drive with my subwoofer removed and still want some "bass" AND they can handle it VERY WELL these little "cheap" buggers slam hard and loud
Car Audio.etc thanks... I'm from Hamilton 😔 I thought it would be around Auckland area... 😔 I'm looking for a good sound installer but might not be able to drive down south. 😔
Car Audio.etc yes I have a mosconi processor, 2 amps, focals on the rear and Gladen 201 on the front and a sub in the trunk. But the worst part is definitely the factory radio which is heavily equalized. I can get it to sound good, but not Perfect... there is nothing like a good headunit with a clean signal to make the most out of your speakers
@car audio.etc hi mate. i have the renault tce 90 intens. great car. but the sound of the navigation radio with bass reflex speakers is not that good.if i upgrade with this focal speakers in the front and 2 tweeters. www.focal.com/en/car-audio/car-audio-kits-solutions/integration/focal-inside-renault/focal-music-live-version-4-0-ifr165-4 and the backseat speakers in the backdoors with this speakers: grouppashuysen.be/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=379 is this enough. i want a nice sound in the car. is it big difference with the old speakers in the car then? and without the focal subwoofer, its also a great sound ? let me know it.
Automatic Level Control. It automatically adjusts volume to overcome engine/road noise as vehicle speed changes. The adjustment here affects how much the effect is applied. 0 = off, 7 = maximum.
wax333, No, you don't want noise cancellation. You still want to hear the world outside your car. This is why it's illegal in most places to wear headphones when driving.
Dealerships modify the eq to get the best sound out of the cheap speakers they put in to save money. A processor will make the eq flat and allow you to tune the system based on the new equipment you've installed.
The Mazda dealership hat modified the factory headunit in order to get the best sound out of the shity factory speakers... OK, let's say they did. Now, an end user or maybe an installer would use an EQ to flatten the responce curve and allow for a better system tuning of the new equipment. My question is how do we know that the curve needs flattening, where the flattening "points" are and how much such this flattening should be (how many dB of correction)?
Sweet can't wait to put those focal speakers in my vehicle great sound🙋🙋👍👍😎😎😊

Alternator/engine whine in most cases is due to the RCAS or for the speaker channels or the speaker wires themselves being to close to an amplifier power wire or a vehicles factory loom.
The rule of thumb I go by is this;

- If they must be within this proximity of each other, no more than a foot of length of the wires can be parallel.
- They can come close to each other as long as they are not parallel (i.e. they can cross over each other)
The reason for this is that power wires emit an electric field around them from the current going through them.
Hope this helps
Good Luck
Car Audio.etc I was considering a new HU, looking at the 4200nex pioneer. Specifically for its time alignment.
are you using an older model of pioneer headunit ?
Well you gotta play good music for it to sound good. Duh.
I have no patience for music snobs. Nickelback is awesome, don’t be a sheep! I know for a fact that intelligence is connected to music taste. Do not become one of those “people” friends... It is normally from Dimmu Borgir(and likwise death metal/satanist) fans anyway.
Respect his taste Human.
WHY do my speakers blow and smell burnt for the 2nd time 🤦♂️ i had c5's coax in front and focals165f coax in back with a JL HD 600/4 WHY DO THEY KEEP BURNING
The 165f are rated 70W RMS 140W peak. with that amp, you are giving the speakers more RMS than their peak handling capacity.
Thoughts on some NVX mid line or the top of the line?
Cheers! 😊
HI mate, Bazooka is bettter than Sufwoofer????
Possible a setting in the menu of the car. Turning up sound to cancel driving noise when you drive. That shit starts turning up tweeters and messing around with the sound. Turn it of, then the stereo function like it`s suppose to.
What coaxial speakers do you suggest from focal for the rear?
6.5
Does the 165F comes with crossover also? Great video...
you can make changes, but it costs money. First, get an EQ or what some today call a "Factory intigrator. then stuff your brain inthere and ake is sound good
Can someone help me? If i want speakers to have amp powered, do i need wire from speakers to amp or straight from head unit to amp?
Lenton
Check your head unit for its wattage output as well as your speakers for their RMS ratings
Head units can provide enough wattage for most smaller speakers.
Where you based at bro I want to get my car done
I've got the same fronts, how on earth did you manage to make the crossovers fit behind the panel?
Michael Hughes
Planning, skilled execution, experience and quick fixes for when it doesn't work the way I intended it to. :)
There is no subwoofer and amp in this application, right?
What is the optimal Hz crossover amp setting for Focals ps165fx? im at 100Hz right now and they sound a little too bright
I have a 10 year old Focal 165V1 compo in my car (front door), powered by an (genesis) amp, and crossover in my alpine 9855r headunit is at 60Hz (steep).
Why? cause I regularly drive with my subwoofer removed and still want some "bass" AND they can handle it VERY WELL
these little "cheap" buggers slam hard and loud
Hi... I'm planning to install SQ sound system for my Honda CU2, are you able to provide the address of your shop?
Steve Rich 37 Gasson st, Sydenham, Christchurch
Car Audio.etc thanks... I'm from Hamilton 😔 I thought it would be around Auckland area... 😔 I'm looking for a good sound installer but might not be able to drive down south. 😔
Rapid Radio are pretty Decent
Car Audio.etc awesome... thanks! I'll check them out. There is also Mad Soundz here in Hamilton but I am not sure if they are good installers.
What sort of stereo is it?
How much did this install cost?
How much would a job like this cost to get done?
2-3k
AudioControl DSP will clean up your sound.
What's your opinion on rearfill?!?
i like it
Car Audio.etc would you ever put components in the rear?!? My car is a Lexus IS200T
factory equalization is the same problem that i have in my BMW X5. Its ridiculous. :(
Goncalo Bello you can change the BMW X5 stereo system though, it's just a big job.
Amplifier and tuner is down under the spare tire
Car Audio.etc yes I have a mosconi processor, 2 amps, focals on the rear and Gladen 201 on the front and a sub in the trunk. But the worst part is definitely the factory radio which is heavily equalized. I can get it to sound good, but not Perfect... there is nothing like a good headunit with a clean signal to make the most out of your speakers
Goncalo Bello look into the alpine 4v units with "tune it" app I love the 13 bar eq allows for Q adjustment and sound stageing
Dubstep song at 8:30?
The sound completely cut off on your video
Goooddd 🎉 please the name from sound at 11.19min please 😊 good job man 😊
@car audio.etc hi mate. i have the renault tce 90 intens. great car. but the sound of the navigation radio with bass reflex speakers is not that good.if i upgrade with this focal speakers in the front and 2 tweeters. www.focal.com/en/car-audio/car-audio-kits-solutions/integration/focal-inside-renault/focal-music-live-version-4-0-ifr165-4 and the backseat speakers in the backdoors with this speakers: grouppashuysen.be/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=379 is this enough. i want a nice sound in the car. is it big difference with the old speakers in the car then? and without the focal subwoofer, its also a great sound ? let me know it.
Smart boy. A tee guy and gun powder
Thoughts on Polk Speakers?
davecoopernz I havnt used them sorry, but we do have access to them so I might ensuite about getting some
In to see if they any good.
yeah man, i have some in my car the tweeters are way smooth dude check them out
the biggest worry from polk audio were the tweeters blowing but they were some of the best tweeters
Love my 4 polk audio 6x9 speakers. Sound great even with 2 12s hitting in the back. Sound treating the doors made them sound even better
what was the alc control for ?
Automatic Level Control. It automatically adjusts volume to overcome engine/road noise as vehicle speed changes. The adjustment here affects how much the effect is applied. 0 = off, 7 = maximum.
so they wouldnt use a microphone for noise cancelation ?
wax333, No, you don't want noise cancellation. You still want to hear the world outside your car. This is why it's illegal in most places to wear headphones when driving.
I need that Fusion sound board
noes! (=nice)
Nothing wrong with nickel back mate
lol, hahahahah!!
Yes there is.
Yes there is! They fn suck!!!
Mate you need a umm6 and REW
That car needs a dsp, something like an audison bit ten or bit one.
...to do what with the DSP?
Flatten the EQ for a better signal to the speakers
Flatten the EQ? What's wrong with the EQ? How do you know it needs flattening? Fooling around with the EQ won't make the signal any better...
Can you tune mine please ? :)
Fox250R sure!
Bring it in to Auto Sound & Security
what song 9:13
lana del rey
A butchered version of Summertime Sadness by Lana Del Rey.
Rookie error, No DSP!
attenuation
$$$ ?? 😍
is the start of the video meant to be that cringy
Focal is overpriced. Sorry NOT Sorry.... seriously, overpriced. You can spend much less and get the same sound if not better.
cheap audio😂
That's some gayass music at the start
