Dude, they showed New Vegas as an abandoned city with no lights on. They made ghouls need a special serum to keep from losing their minds. They reduced the NCR to a gang of raiders, and erased the civilization they built on the west coast as if it never was. The Enclave was down to looney remnants, and now suddenly it's a major threat again. What do you mean it's faithful to the lore??? They could have gone to some other random part of the country and told any story they wanted. Instead, they chose to screw up established locations and entities.

In the comics, the city is actually big, very much alive and very vivid and colorful. Isn't that boring slop like Resident Evil 4 (the bad flick, not the game) where the ruins of Californian cities looks all brown and awful. Imagine making a LOTR sequel, and starting it with:
"4 years after the defeat of Sauron, Gondor turned into a smoldering ruin due to Aragorn's poor management, and even the people of Rohan abandoned their lands and left far east, and hobbits of the Shire were all killed or driven off by the ex-Gondorians turned bandits."
Like, yeah, you *CAN* do that but, that's not really a *GOOD* idea, it just comes across that you didn't really like the source material, and you just want to burn it down to make "something better", which does not bode well, considering how bad the foundations are.

No, I mean, you _can_ make something like what you're describing with LotR, but if you do it respectfully (like justify everything adequately, or treat it as a 'what if?' scenario) then it shouldn't be a problem. The problem is that a lot of "writers" these days either genuinely hate the source material, or are just incompetent and disrespectful.

@@georgeoldsterd8994 As much as it's not a good idea to make assumptions, nor make conclusion based on said assumptions, I'd bet that the people involved (in the writing) have never even played Fallout NV or Fallout 2.
I'd bet their motivation to specifically target New Vegas and Shady Sands (and miss locate it so poorly) is because people they do not like on twitter/tumblr/tiktok, liked Fallout NV, and so they wanted to s**t on it as a part of some proxy internet pissing contest, and since Bethesda is most likely still salty over NV seen as a superior work to their own, they saw it as an oppurtunity to "let it happen", so they don't directly need to take the heat for doing it in Fallout 5, they'd just point out that "wasn't me".

How the hell did you come into that conclusion that they are nice people???
Todd has been lying to his customers for a decade now and is very petty. He is an absolute criminal. He never appologized, he never said "Yes, we fucked up, we are sorry. Those who feel that they got scammed we will give them a refund. We will do better next time." This is how he sees you - as a sap, a wallet, not even deemed worthy to get an appology, even a fake one.
Emil is an incompetent writer to the highest degree. He always feels that he is right, he sees himself entitled to your money and you shouldn't ever criticize his work because A - you know nothing and B - he always ignores criticism, even a legit one. He is a manchild and a narcisist. He said that he doesn't put any effort in his work as a "writer" because players are too dumb and won't appreciate his work of art. An absolute excuse to hide his incompetence, although futile because he does the most basic writing mistakes. He is lazy to top it all off and proud of it "Write what you know" are his words and what he means by them is that when writing about politics, organizations, anything really, you don't do research to make them believable, you just write what comes to your mind.
He is against documentation, a key tool while making games. It is like an engineer constructing a building without a blueprint...
They smile, they have a pretty face and this is what is enough for you to think they are nice? Guess what. I smile too but unlike them when i make a mistake or slight someone i appologize. And those scumbags slight millions of people. Stop being a sheep for your own good.

It's important to remember that Bethesda as well as many other creators and famous writers use the "unreliable narrator" technique to add mystery and uncertainty to stories to make them more intriguing. For this reason, I've never had any problem with lore inconsistencies between any of the games or the new series. In Fallout, there is never just a single story, each game is composed of countless stories told from many different points of view, as well as characters with varying levels of honesty and knowledge of this fascinating fictional world. That is why I appreciate all of the games for their merits and the massive amount of hard work needed to create each of the games and this fun new Amazon series. Creating anything at this level of quality cost millions and requires a lot of passion and care. Nothing in our real world is perfect, but the Fallout franchise, with all of its imperfections, is perfectly entertaining and inspiring for me as an indie game developer.

Idk about the fateful the lore, they changed who lauched the first nukes and why. Then the West Coast lore was The Last Jedi. I mean its been thought that Todd really hated Fallout 1 2 and NV. They were like a black mark on his Fallout, and Todd finally saw a chance to whipe it all out. Fallout 5 is probably going to be set in the West, and now Todd ensured a clean slate for his story. I think that's why lore nuts like me have problems with the show.

    Spoiler Alert!!!!!
I thought the writing and plot of the show was nothing but a crap sandwich. For example, why did Lee Moldaver wait years after the explosion of Shady Sands to decide to get the code from Hank Maclean when he was in the vault years later? She could have captured Hank Maclean when he tried to bring his wife and Lucy back to the vault before the explosion of Shady Sands. Why would a low-level Vault Tec executive such as Hank Maclean have the code to activate the cold fusion device and how would Moldaver even know this? There should have been a flash back to show why Hank would have the codes and how Moldaver figured this out. Why would the Enclave scientist build a cold fusion device and then lock it using the codes from Vault Tec when he plans to give it to Moldaver anyway? The enclave scientist hid the cold fusion device inside his own body! If Moldaver designed the original cold fusion device in the first place, then why didn’t she just make it public before the Fallout war started in 2077? What was the motive for the Enclave scientist to build the device and why did he choose to give it Moldaver in the first place? How did the Ghoul know which town to go to find the Enclave scientist? When did the Goul lore change that a ghoul had to drink a mysterious liquid to keep them from becoming feral? When did the Ghoul lore change where the ghoul had the same regenerating powers as Wolverine of the Xmen?
I could go on and on with many more plot holes, but the comments section is not a place for dissertations.

In case people have forgotten, I read somewhere earlier that Todd Howard himself had spoken about his sense of humour and his design philosophy towards games, which is evident in Fallout 4, for instance. Comparing Fallout 4 and 76 to the Obsidian titles, you see that his and Bethesda's style of humour is more..simplistic. Look, the original Fallouts did things with something of a 50's background, denoting a shift in the timeline in their world vs the real world, but it was not locked into a 1950's type of world; Fallout 3 and 4 had very heavy 50's vibes to them, evident in the character clothing and radio, for instance - two very powerful and essential aspects that form the core of the game's identity. Comparatively, Obsidian/Interplay are subtle with it and use it as a piece of their philosophy, whereas Todd Howard/Bethesda just go full-on Elvis Presley. Different mindsets, different styles.
The design philosophy and forms of humor between Bethesda/Todd Howard and the original Obsidian/Interplay team are completely different, that's all there is to it. This is not to say one or the other is inferior or superior, nor need there be any sort of "rivalry" between the two - these are simply two different types of entertainment enjoyed by many. Quentin Tarantino vs Christopher Nolan - both are equally viable, but they both have their own distinct styles and way of doing things that appeal to different audiences.
As it is, the current holders of the Fallout title have changed it into their own style, their own way of doing things - and their style is not what attracted me or many others to the title series in the first place. I'm certain the Fallout movies/TV show are widely received, that's fine - the target audience was not for Fallout fans but the population in general which does not understand the world of Fallout whatsoever; the TV show title served its purpose, which was to make money. I'm simply discussing my views on how Fallout has changed and why I no longer purchase anything related to Fallout and have no intention on buying a product whose owners have changed it into more simple fare.
The original makers of Fallout or people that are related to its production can enjoy the TV show and further Fallout titles produced by Bethesda/Todd Howard, that's fine - but they themselves also need to understand that there are people who will not agree with their views and what it's been turned into under different leadership, that's all there is to it. There's a reason why New Vegas, released 14 years ago, continues to hold a place in the hearts of many - it obviously has such staying power that whereas Fallout 3 does not and keeps up with Fallout 4 and Fallout 76 even though these were later releases in the series; some would even say that New Vegas replaces these titles altogether in their hearts.
The question then becomes, "Why? What makes New Vegas so special?" Games are interactive stories, that's all - so then, we would need to look at the story of New Vegas combined with its gameplay to understand why it retains such a dear place in the hearts of many Fallout fans and why it inspired such a large modding scene with so much user-generated content, especially to fix the technical problems to make it more easily enjoyed by any who would wish to try it for themselves. To be frank, if we're simply looking for the newest and greatest entries into a series for the "new car" smell, then why is New Vegas still so beloved by many, despite its age? Obviously, the game itself must have done something right - otherwise, it would be forgotten altogether.
As I said before, different design philosophies and means of story-telling.

The Brotherhood are canonically not great people. the ONLY outlier was Fallout 3's main BoS chapter. And that all ended when said chapter must've reunited with the outcasts and sent an expedition to the Commonwealth. Because THOSE guys were back to being ultra racist (against mutants, ghouls, and androids) dickholes that wanted to take over the Commonwealth and the institute only in order to secure it's technology, really.
And, if they're right and the ship is the Prdywyn and not just a sister ship, then that means said commonwealth bound BoS unit went back to California, which means one of two things. ONE. they canonically won the war, and looted the Institute of everything and made it back ((which doesn't explain why they were hurting for people, or why their tech hadn't really changed all that much)) , or 2) and this is straight up way more likely - they got their asses beat, and/or were forced to concede to the Commonwealth's minutemen faction - Which, they would've suffered heavy losses, which is why they end up recruiting all these new people and why the elder near the end of the show says what he says about the strength of their average brotherhood member.
Titus and the other knights are shown as POS's because... they are. Titus is a dickhead, not very bright and worst off - a fucking coward. He's in a suit of armor, and probably could've taken that Yao Guai if he just stood and fought but didn't because - POS. He was unwise because while dying and relying on Maximus to heal him, because he couldn't himself - he was threatening Max the entire time and telling him even if the dude DID save him, the rest of the Brotherhood would kill Maximus for what he did/didn't do.
They're not nearly as brave as they think they are, the brotherhood's numbers were dwindled down so badly that any of the "good" knights that were shown rescuing Maximus or the others way back when - are long since gone. Either dead or retired as elders now probably.
The original BoS, or a splinter group of it- split off and was in NV - they were in such a bad way they decided to be isolationist, didn't take any new recruits and relied heavily on relationships between BoS members to repopulate their numbers. It's why Veronica was on the outs with them, as she was lesbian.
Also - yes - if you didn't have Veronica with you when you visited the NV branch of BoS and made contact with them, they jump you, strip you of your inventory and STRAP A FRIGGIN BOMB TO YOUR NECK. so no.... I don't think that's a very 'good guy' type move there....

@@urekmazino6800 Well maybe in the second game but the third they were just doing the same thing the brotherhood was and then got screwed because your dad decided to off himself and the super computer they were working with decided to betray them.
In 76 you could technically be part of them but they were all dead from the scorch outbreak so in the end it didn't matter. I just want one good time to be able to join them without them being neutered and made into the good guys but rather a grey faction that does what it does because it believes its the only way to bring their home back again.

I was so mad when we find out "Pip Boy's" wife was named Barb Howard. I screamed "BETHESDA HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH WHY FALLOUT IS GOOD"

The only interesting part for me in the show was the parts which took place in the bunkers.... everything else that was taking place outside with the brotherhood of steel the MC and the ghoul was so boring it made me skip them altogether... I liked the power armor and the monsters but that was about it!

I agree. The ghoul could have been cool but he is never creative or clever. He just is higher level apparently so he can just kill everyone and they aren't allowed to shoot back or hurt him.

Fighting scenes are horrible. They aim for comedy and misses.
And when you miss comedy you can't fall down on anything lower.
A bad action can be comical. A bad comedy can't be anything else than a bad comedy.

Yao Guai: dies in two pistol shots after killing a BOS paladin in power armor.
Random dude in same episode: gets shot 2-3 times, and shrugs it off
Also Maximus wearing the power armor is able to launch a brick like a cannon ball, whereas the paladin wearing the same armor before got his butt kicked royally. Again, this is ALL in the same episode.

These are valid points, really. But I will play devil's advocate here.
Titus was just a fucking coward. He's in a suit of armor that protected him for the most part, and could've bought him enough time to retaliate against the yao guai - but instead he ran like a bitch and ended up dying from probably internal injuries. While Maximus just had to shoot the bear a couple of times. It wasn't showing Max is a badass, it was showing just how cowardly and shitty a human being Titus actually was.
ANNNDD Titus was a friggin idiot. WHO THE FUCK decides to tell the one person who can save their life, that they're going to turn said person in so they can get killed when they get back home? who does that? They wrote him as a coward and an idiot who acted tough but the moment he actually saw any kinda combat with an actual threat - he crumbled under pressure, and in my opinion they did it intentionally to show that the Brotherhood's standards had dropped REALLY low.

Storytelling isn't just about the fighting scenes though. Check out Westworld, Fallout's literally directed by the director and writer of Westworld.

@@donDanDeNiro It is definitely a golden rule in storytelling that says "show not tell" Every scene in a movie or a series tell a story. Fighting scenes ae not excluded
