Remember you have old games, emulators n indies, ofc you need to choose carefully since the companies still make money from old games n some indies will have the message as well, it's a shame bc we have good games like Time Spinner that are unplayable bc of the message in the story, even when it's an artistic choice to believe we need representation, anyone who uses this word is a red flag to me

The "game development is hard" excuse is the worst one.
A paying customer has every right to complain, if you go to a restaurant expecting a five star meal and the cook can only make pre made hamburgers that taste like cardboard while still charging you for that five star price then the customer has all the right to complain about the subpar job.

@SammEater - Using your logic and reasoning does not quite fit with this example. Nobody is sitting in a restaurant expecting to pay before their meal. Then when they get their steak they are told to pay up front for the chips then again for the salad then again for the sauce etc. etc.
There is also no realistic restaurant that you expect to be in for hours every day just to get the advertised meal.
There is also plenty of alternatives to eating at a restaurant but increasingly little alternative to the corporate cash grabs and deceit of the modern gaming industry. It is much worse than a bad restaurant experience unless you are prepared to do something else with your time.

One important thing that current disappointment in gaming should be showing people is, it was never the company that made the games you love, but the development teams working for them. The dream teams at Blizzard, Bioware, Konami, Capcom, etc. have long since disbanded, few of the members still at those companies. THEY are why the games you love were so good, and upper management has gotten worse and worse to the point that many of those folks jumped ship to start their own companies or work for others. That is why longstanding franchises have gotten worse and loaded with "live service" garbage no one but the higher-ups want because it makes them and their cohort millions to nickel-and-dime us, the players. If you want good games, look at the team making them, not the companies they work for. Upper management has no clue what players want and don't care; they're just looking at the dollars that roll in. Keep feeding them for crap, and crap is what you'll get.

Kinda. More to do with the lucrative nature of the massive gaming industry. Just like with youtube and Twitch, the big money is attracting big fish that really just wants to push leashes on IPs and then milk them, and these people care about money and good business, not the thing making it for them. I think we will see the death of the AAA game. When AAA game productions cost hundreds of millions of dollars to produce they become too big fail which means the brain-dead executives controlling the purse string are the ones making the big design decisions which rarely end well. If you look at all the big successes in recent years most are not AAA games. They are polished A or AA games made by mid-sized more independent studios like Fromsoft and Larian or even outright indie titles made by very small developers. The biggest earners have actually been predatory mobile games like Candy Crush.
I think we will end up seeing the big-name developers transitioning toward smaller more lucrative projects with less risk such as gotcha and mobile games along with smaller-scale more traditional online games loaded with microtransactions.

Given how Bethesda reacts to Starfield criticism, it is obvious Todd Howard never got over the fact and takes it personally that out of all 3D Fallout games the most popular is the one that was not developed under his direction. But when you think about it, Fallout has always been Obsidian’s franchise in the first place, since Obsidian was founded by the core of the former Black Isle Studios staff that developed the original Fallout games. Obsidian is so much better at worldbuilding than post-Morrowind Bethesda. That's why New Vegas is the most loved. I feel like Bethesda thought it would be a quick buck to pay someone to do an asset flip of Fallout 3, but they hired the creators of the franchise and they made a damn masterpiece in 18 months instead. Bethesda couldn't stand the idea of being viewed as the lesser Fallout dev so they threw it all away and didn't even consider risking being viewed the same way in the Elder Scrolls. Bethesda screwed up when they came to the conclusion that the sandbox aspect of Morrowind was why it succeeded and not the rich worldbuilding, which is why all their games since have suffered in good writing and simplified features in the name of accessibility. The thing is, the games sold well so they thought that was a sign they were right. But really, the fact that people could access these products globally on a larger and larger scale had a lot to do with that. And this created a market starved for well written RPGs. And now, we have Zoomers playing BG3. A CRPG. ZOOMERS. PLAYING. A CRPG. It looks like good writing and worldbuilding matter after all!

The only way MS will improve things is if those companies' business models prove disastrous enough to warrant the costs of restructuring them. _Starfield_ as a whole and the CCP severely limiting how much its citizens can pay into video games each month do have potential.

I would like to know how they define a life service game then? In general a life service game is designed to be an ongoing, continually evolving experience for players by means of all or some of these: Regular Updates, Monetization/Battlepasses, Events and/or Seasons, Multiplayer and/or encouraging players to form communities within the game and long term player retention.
Even a game without any monetization, battlepass, etc.. that has seasons, events and regular updates in an online game is still a life service game.
So, not sure what they really think their game is if not a life service game.

I do respect rocksteady as a studio or developer group based off the priorities with the Arkham series, and their approach to authenticity there.
But from the very start with suicide squad, it was clear to me that this game had the wrong priorities, and because of that lacked authenticity.
It felt like the decision making of suits and not the rock steady developers. And maybe it’s just some of the rocksteady higher-ups veered too far away from their developer attire to instead wear suit attire . Either way, It immediately came across as disingenuous and trend chasing. And then, even with the games reveal … The approach again looked disingenuous and safe.
The project feels forced by or on rocksteady and what typically results from that is a lot of wasted potential because priorities are put on the wrong shit.
And even if you can’t see the obvious disingenuous, manipulative, tactics that are at work here… You can still feel it.
That’s not to say you won’t excuse it because you’re bored and want something new to play even if you’re not really that interested plus instant gratification blah blah blah ….. all of those reasons are good as they are just excuses that incentivize and reward decision making from suits and not developers. Decision making with the wrong priorities. By excusing it, or making whatever compromises you do… You incentivize more of it, and for it to get worse. But I digress.
Suicide squad was a suits idea, because the current hype with the movies at their time, which is no longer the case but that’s where the whole idea stemmed from. Trend chasing.
And then you play it safe in other areas and blend appropriately . 👎 it’s all pathetic bullshit of out of touch individuals getting to make decisions for games they should have no authority to have any decision making power over whatsoever because their priority is not the game… It’s money and narratives.
But we unfortunately end up, rewarding the wrong, kind of decision, making because we reward with our money and eyeballs the products from those decision makers🤦‍♂️
If you want the game creators/developers to have decision-making control and power again… You must reward the decisions for games/products that result from their decision making . The moment you pick up on disingenuous decision-making, suits decision making, wrong priority decision making… You do not reward that with your eyeballs or wallets. You don’t incentivize more of that because then you only perpetuate further control to those entities with the wrong priorities that should be nowhere near that game/product. And according to what you give access to your wallets and eyeballs for… That perpetuates where the decision-making control comes from, and what results from that.
Suits will always wrestle for control of the decision making because they want to prioritize better profit. And they will gladly exploit a product and consumer for better profit. A suit will not invest in a product the way that a product developer will. They don’t care in the same capacity. They don’t have the same priorities. So make sure you reward the right kind of results . Because depending on which one you reward… You will get more of.
You get the beast that you feed
And with that said… I personally will be giving suicide squad here, NONE of my wallet or eyeball access.

You and others seem to have a misconception of what blacklist means. And it doesn't mean "can't report" because that isn't even possible. When they say boycott or blacklist it means no longer providing them (those specific outlets) interviews, studio walkthroughs, early access/copies, etc - it is not within their (developers) power nor should it be to stop an outlet from reporting - which again, that's impossible. My statement still stands as well because it IS in their power and their right to no longer offer additional access to their property to whoever they choose. Whether this harms their sales or not, it is their choice.
