“And the only reason I wasn’t terminated-“ was because they knew you would get them for wrongful termination if they did, because you did nothing wrong but follow your superiors orders.
The mechanic wasn't incompetent. A lot of shops pay by the hour and will work on as little as they can at a time so that they can milk your wallet as much as possible before you decide to take your vehicle somewhere else. Those mechanics probably figured out what was wrong the first time around and decided not to fix it so that Op will keep coming back, and the company will keep having to pay them.
Man that's shitty. I've taken my car to only two places to get it fixed. A dealership and a local mechanic and both places fixed it without charging me an arm and a leg
On the flip side, if a problem is not repaired properly, you can take the vehicle/mower/item that needs repaired to another shop and they have to either pay for the new shop's repairs, refund the cost of the original repair, or possibly both depending on local laws.
I will lay odds that that manager was getting kickbacks from that mechanic as this is a VERY common tactic for off-the-books income. In my experience, no regular work done on any type of engine is ever done without replacing the filters as they could get damaged during testing. The manager insisting that the mower be taken to the mechanic and no in-company maintenance log being kept is a massive red flag.

Yea, they kept it all day the first time to make sure there are no more issues but miss the other dirty filter!? Then when told what the issues is they say it is something (expensive) that doesn't need changing. They were stringing them around for sure! I remember a news story that went "undercover" to catch shady mechanics. They had a woman take a brand new car to them and she was told they had to change out this expensive part so she agreed and a day later they get it back and ask for the part that was taken out and the guy made a show of looking for it but the truth was there was nothing wrong so they did absolutely no work but charged her for a new part and time... They even wrote down the serial numbers of the parts to prove they didn't do anything!
I love that OP in the "Bill and Ted" story used the company card to max out his tip for the restaurant servers. I'm sure that made them really happy! :D
One time, my Aunt got a free upgrade to First Class on a flight because someone tried the ‘my wife’s in a lower class and we want a free upgrade’ trick. They got their upgrade to Economy+, whilst my Aunt got First.
That first story was great! I remember my parents, particularly my dad, would worry that I would 'turn out lesbian', as if that was the worst case senario. I was a tomboy who found dolls boring and I'd rather play with my brothers cars and trains etc. Surprisingly in all this, they didn't have a problem with me playing with legos. Go figure. 15:45 I can count the amount of times an irate customer came back and apologized for their behavior on one hand. It happened once in my multiple different customer service jobs.
Personally, I don't want a male OB/GYN. It's easier to talk to another woman about womanly problems and I trust the more personal knowledge of those things alongside the extensive education. Maybe the dad felt the same about the female nurse. Them picking the gayest male nurse possible might have been their idea of a joke or he was simply the only dude available. The look on his face must have been absolutely priceless!
This is a myth. I had a female OB/GYN completely ignore the fact I had multiple diagnosed problems in my chart and proceed to berate me for using medication for treating it and not just "dealing with it" like women do. My first OB/GYN, a man, had instructed me that bleeding for two weeks on ultra heavy isn't particularly healthy for any individual and becoming anemic is very dangerous to my all-around health, let alone reproductive health. Said man also showed me how to do breast exams and gave me some better advice. Gender means nothing when you're a moron. Now I've seen a few OB/GYNs by now and I can say I've had an equal amount of good men and women who have seen me... But it was only one woman who was a moron because I wasn't exactly like her.
I had a supervisor, who insisted we start our blanking press at 6:30 am on the dot. He did not want us to check "anything" until after the press was running. If it was set up run it and worry about the set up later. We had a chevron shaped blank, run from a die that needed to have the angle set manually by a die maker. My partner and I fired up the press, running 60 strokes a minute. We did a dimension check, burr check and micked to thickness, but the only way to check the angle was to stop the press, open the press doors and visually check the numbered gauge. We finished the coil of steel, with about 4500 pieces. You guessed it the angle was wrong, the 3rd shifter had set up the job and never checked the angle and we weren't allowed to. Shit hit the fan and they tried to blame my partner and I. We informed them if we were allowed to check over everything "before" we started, our run would have been in spec and not scrap. After that we looked at everything before starting the press, screw their numbers. Miking a part is to use a micrometer to check the steel thickness. I can't remember how many blanks were run on third shift, it was a long time ago.
I love that first story. A lot of hate is simply fear and misunderstanding and when it came to choose the dad chose his family over his fear and hate. Excellent story.
FIRST STORY: I had a female urologist. She was a most talented surgeon, who had pioneered a particular procedure. SECOND: Again, the squeaky wheel doesn't get greased, but the broken axle does.... The mechanic was the manager's brother... The rare time when a jerk customer apologizes feels really good.
Isn't it great how the didn't get fired because he was able to prove that he was acting under direct orders from his manager, but the manager didn't get fired for giving him that order. Management sucks.
Ah, the typical mechanic who knows more than you, so whichever problem you tell them it might be (and is), they decide it's something else entirely and never actually check the thing you mentioned.
13:59 Dude, it is painfully obvious that mechanic was just milking a golden goose. He recognized a helpless employee who was being forced to bring something in when he obviously knew the problem and likely knew there was an incompetent supervisor forcing him to bring it in. I'd be angry about yet another mechanic taking advantage of people, but in this case, I just laugh. Stupid manager, lolz.

As a quality engineer, the one thing I always tell people is: if someone tells you to go off-process, *get it in writing*. Because when I come looking for the source of the non-conformance, we are both going to be much happier with that evidence.
In the 2nd story OP didn't stand a chance. If he had done anything else than what the manager said, the manager would have made his life a living hell. If he did what he did pretty much everyone will be after him. Leadership basically told him he's on thin ice and the manager doesn't seem like a magnanimous person based on the story, even when he's at fault. The only chance OP had was the manager getting fired and they didn't do that.
The last story: I am glad he apologized. Everyone has bad days and needs to vent, but don't vent on the people who are "innocent" bystanders, or if you do, sincerely apologize.
Fact: if someone wants you to put something into writing/email/text, STOP and think about how utterly you just messed up. They just went in CYA-Mode and you are the person who is entirely in the wrong. Stop and rethink your life, your decisions, and what you want them to do.
It's not sad that it took that poster's dad losing his family to change. Changing and growing as a person can get harder as you get older, but his family was important enough to him that he was able to reconsider beliefs he had held throughout most of his life. It sucks that it took making his granddaughter uncomfortable to learn his lesson, but it's awesome that he was able to learn from his mistakes, make amends with his family, and continue to grow! There are a lot of similar stories that don't end in a person changing their ways, so it always nice to hear stories that have positive endings like that.
That first story omfg. So my grandpa had multiple heart surgeries and refused to have a woman do his sponge bath. And (according to my uncle) one of the times it was an absolutely fabulous nurse who did a catheter and a sponge bath. My grandfather wasn't homophobic, but he wasn't all "yay pride" either. But that story was told like once a year.
You forgot to put the correct time in your description for the second Story just thought you'd like to know if you want to fix it. In case you guys are curious the second Story starts at 2:35
The only reason you aren't being fired is because you were under direct orders from management. Uh, yeah?
5:11 "A long long time ago in the late 90's"
Me, who was born in the 80's, "Oh FFS, it wasn't that long ago! I ain't old yet!"
Sounds like the mechanic knew he had a blank check.
I love that OP in the "Bill and Ted" story used the company card to max out his tip for the restaurant servers. I'm sure that made them really happy! :D
7:15 😂😂 I’m surprised the guy didn’t argue, but I guess he KNEW he was in the wrong
Hey, Rslash is using chapters!
Go figure. Btw, this was the 60's into the 70's. Fun times. :)
Because...Legos are for everyone?...
@@aces5thalternateaccount464 This was the 60's, and my Dad was very adamant on 'gender appropriate' stuff. So, yeah, I'm glad the ads for Legos back then said they were for everyone. Btw, he's since apologised so, Yay, I guess. :)
@@joanneoliver8610 it are you gay
@@dyltube6395 No, I'm not. Just not a huge fan of 'girly' things. But I do have times when I like getting in touch with my feminine side. Such as 'Curl Up and Dye' nights with my friends, where were try different things and get stupid drunk. Lol!
@@dyltube6395 Oh, and my eldest sons name is Dylan. :D
I really enjoy just being able to listen to your videos in the morning. My bus ride takes a full hour to get to where it needs to be & you really help pass the time.
15:45 I can count the amount of times an irate customer came back and apologized for their behavior on one hand. It happened once in my multiple different customer service jobs.
15:36 they are now married and have 5 kids
4:45 so he was going to lose his job for it, but the boss just got a talking to? Yea, totally fair.
Thank you for adding timestamps for the stores in the description. The "You said don't stop" one isn't working for some reason though.
15:50
There’s a brilliant Nickelback song that describes this perfectly.
Best way to start my birthday 🙏
Happy birthday! Mine was 2 days ago lol
Happy birthday!
Happy Happy Birthday!!!
🎊🎉🍰🎂🍨😅
Thanks guys!
In the lawnmower story, the manager is the idiot, the mechanic is just using the managers incompetence to warn more dollars 🙄
it takes a lot more balls to apologies to someone than to yell at them, respect for ken realizing he f-ed up.
1:20 yall made an old man cry cause hes normal smh
Ay, R/ figured out how chapters work, nice
Shame one of the times is currently broken so it's not perfectly lined up. Very nice though
FIRST STORY: I had a female urologist. She was a most talented surgeon, who had pioneered a particular procedure. SECOND: Again, the squeaky wheel doesn't get greased, but the broken axle does.... The mechanic was the manager's brother... The rare time when a jerk customer apologizes feels really good.
it makes me happy to see that op's father (1st story) changed for the better. it's like proof that things *can* get better
I was actually very touched by the change in the father from the first story. He letnlove to his family defeate his fear and hate 😃
Isn't it great how the didn't get fired because he was able to prove that he was acting under direct orders from his manager, but the manager didn't get fired for giving him that order. Management sucks.
That’s company structure. The higher up you get the less work you do, the more you get paid, and the more you get away with.
The man made an effort and changed his ignorant ways for his family.. that's beautiful.
I've never been this early! I hope everyone has a good day!
Ah, the typical mechanic who knows more than you, so whichever problem you tell them it might be (and is), they decide it's something else entirely and never actually check the thing you mentioned.
Good on the guy in the last story for actually owning up to the behaviour!
Thank you for putting chapters! I appreciate all the entertainment you provide for me while doing chores/driving
13:50 Mechanic's not an idiot, they are a scammer...
The mechanic knew what they were doing, they just took as long as possible since they charge by the hour
The addition of the timestamps is a great improvement
i think it's funny that someone literally just had lyrics of a Beatles song as their name 😂
Ah my daily dose of RSlash Malicious Compliance
Title: steal my plane
Everyone before they read the rest of that sentence: W H A T
13:59 Dude, it is painfully obvious that mechanic was just milking a golden goose. He recognized a helpless employee who was being forced to bring something in when he obviously knew the problem and likely knew there was an incompetent supervisor forcing him to bring it in. I'd be angry about yet another mechanic taking advantage of people, but in this case, I just laugh. Stupid manager, lolz.
I'm so glad the dad changed, rather than just get worse. I'm really glad. Just wish he had changes sooner.
You're supposed to stay in your allocated seat with your seatbelt on so they can identify your body easily in the event of a crash 😄 Or, you know, to give you a present when you reach a milestone.
Woah, the first one and the guy realizing his bigotry was wrong and was what was losing him his family. I'm not crying, you're crying, I'm also cutting onions and got something in my eye
As a quality engineer, the one thing I always tell people is: if someone tells you to go off-process, *get it in writing*. Because when I come looking for the source of the non-conformance, we are both going to be much happier with that evidence.
"But on the flip side I'd be out of a job" Is a great response.
Story 1 - It's like the slogan says - "Someone you hate could be someone you love."
Bill and Ted? 😂😂😂
Bodacious man!
Oh ya, you mistyped a time stamp btw
2:35
The last story: I am glad he apologized. Everyone has bad days and needs to vent, but don't vent on the people who are "innocent" bystanders, or if you do, sincerely apologize.
No no that mechanic isn't incompetent he's a genius at money making he knew the issues lol.
I want r/shalsh nuclear revenge
Fact: if someone wants you to put something into writing/email/text, STOP and think about how utterly you just messed up. They just went in CYA-Mode and you are the person who is entirely in the wrong. Stop and rethink your life, your decisions, and what you want them to do.
As yes my daily dose of rslash prefect thing to start my day
I love any subreddit stories that involve something with heavy machinery. They are so satisfying
Ayyy here early enough that there's still a typo in the description 😁
Thanks for the timestamps!
You forgot to put the correct time in your description for the second Story just thought you'd like to know if you want to fix it. In case you guys are curious the second Story starts at 2:35
nice use of chapters! helps people find the story they want and also know when the next one will be up!
The only reason you aren't being fired is because you were under direct orders from management.
Uh, yeah? I wouldn't have done it if I wasn't under direct orders from management so I wouldn't have been fired either way. 😅
SMH, managers love to say things that sound authoritative but really have zero meaning.
Thanks for the stories rslash. Have a good Friday.
Nobody:
My brain: “Steal my plane? You’ll regret it!”
👁 👄 👁
Nice of you to set timestamps!
I've missed that!
"If a lot of people love each other, the world would be a better place to live." -- Tommy Wiseau
"And keep in mind, if you have any problems, talk to me and I will help you, huuuuh?" 😂
Last story:
"You never know what someone is going through. Be kind."
lawn mower story - incompetent mechanic, no.......unethical and crooked mechanic, YES!
First story turned surprisingly wholesome!
Nah, the mechanic is smart. He’s either in on OP in teaching the boss a lesson, or it’s some sort of back door money exchange that’s off-the-record and very sus
Whoa! Bill & Ted? EXCELLENT!! *Initiates air guitar*
Some are petty revenge, but whatever it's not like he actually pays attention.
Every retail store should have a big sign on their door that says “Check your ego at the door. Just because you’re having a bad day doesn’t mean you can bring that negativity to our employees”
Hope you're having a good day rSlash!
