i know i’m late to this. i’m a first time watcher, so if you already know this, sorry in advance! but i’m pretty sure that Rick cutting his hand off is a nod to the comics, since Rick gets his hand cut off. i think they blended it into this part of their story to also show how intense the hold that the CRM has on Rick is. it makes a little more sense if you look at it from that perspective!
