Excellent video. It explains so much. UK needs to use this ball for practice or petition for use of other balls than the EVO. This is madness to rig the money games.
plays a Factor for sure... when I played college basketball I used to hate how every team had a different ball and every game it just took time to get used to. Agree with making just one ball the official ball. Every College D1 D2 and D3 has to use.
I feel it matters, NCAA could just switch ball brands every year so no brand gets left out. Just like they do with Arena's! One year it should be Nike, next year it should be Wilson, and so on!
Anybody else ever hate when you played at your friends house with a slick and or sticky red white and blue ball and they always wanted to use that instead of my brand new ball?
Definitely a factor. I would say ref inconsistency is the biggest problem in basketball in general. Ref’s call the game wildly different, and there is no rhythm to most games now because of it. Because I personally saw Tim Donaghy influence games, I am skeptical of most obvious blown calls now. Regardless of rooting interest I see it every game, where it seems inconsequential but it’s a 1-2 point swing every time, whether it is a foul, out of bounds, moving screen is the big one, carry… they just call thing’s super inconsistently.
SEC basketball refs have consistently been the worst across the conferences. Doesn't matter the game location either, just really terrible officiating.
If you play basketball and have with the Wilson as compared to the others it definitely is different. And if you ask me I think there is something going on. Gambling has become huge on college games, and call me crazy but I think they are using magnetic rims. Once Vegas has got ahold of all our sports you can tell it seems like alot of games tend to go a certain way.
Last year (2022 NCAA tourney) I was 99 percent certain that the fix was in for duke to win it all...to make sure coach k or ratface ended his career on top....so I was kinda shocked when they didn't win it.
Whats the 2point FG % with the Evo? Because it is super bouncy off the rim. Old wilson balls didnt bounce like this. Evo has definitely hurt HS teams in our area. Tons more missed layups and inside shots.
My undergrad degree is in Exercise Physiology, Pope using the Spalding to practice for the Duke game is brilliant...you practice with what you will use in games....its more efficient
I've been a basketball playing junkie since 7 yrs old....n ol most definitely the basketball makes a considerable difference on how you shoot!! Just like rims do obviously....who doesn't love a nice loose (but not too loose) breakaway rim when shooting! The court itself makes a difference....id much rather play on a nice spring loaded floor than an old ass Boston gardenish kinda court that have dead spots, etc. Play on a rim that has some give to it for awhile then go shoot on a double style rim on some playground that isn't breakaway... the difference is massive!! I would surely to God hope that calipari is smart enough to know this?? But apparently he isn't cuz we are not using the Wilson evo basketball during the season (prolly cuz we got some deal with Nike)...if so I would get the hell out of that deal and start using the Wilson evo....cuz any advantage could make the difference!! But cal prolly doesn't even care n thinks different even tho our shooting in the NCAA tournament every year is God awful. Bill self and fdu coach smart enough to realize it....but cal prolly doesn't think it makes a difference.
First of all, teams know what ball will be used in the tournament and they can get a set to shoot leading up to the tourney. Second, both teams use the same ball during the whole game.
Interesting I love this ball and play with it. However there is some run I go too and use a molton ball I hate it! I can’t shoot as well feels heavy. The ball definitely does make a difference if you’re used to only playing with one.
Totally agree with your take on this! Does college football use different balls as well. If yes, I believe the difference would be much less, but basketball? Totally different animal. No wonder KY sucks so bad in the tournament.
@@WatchKSR Thanks for responding. If "inflate-gate" taught us one thing, it's THE BALL MATTERS!!! ESPECIALLY in basketball where ANYONE on the court is likely to handle it in one way or another. Do you know which ball the SEC Tournament uses?
Steven, real quick, it would help if you left the Tweets and such on the screen a little longer since they add context. Having said that, great video! I wish I had seen this when you first released it because it reminded me of a similar story with the NBA. I don’t remember the year, but they had adopted a new ball that was supposed to be this space age greatest ball ever. It was supposed to…wait for it…be easier to grip, but also they said it would disperse moisture away from your hands to help with the grip (because of the pebble type grain I think). Again, it was supposed to be some space age material, but it was glorified rubber and the players hated it. The truth is they had gotten rid of the leather ball to placate certain activists. Shaq said the new ball was like…WAIT FOR IT…a cheap $5 outdoor basketball, and some players said it hurt their hands. It was dumped pretty quickly as I recall. It would be great if you updated this video for this March and looked at the NBA ball that had a similar story.
I haven't played basketball in 15+ years, I still have my Spalding ball. Apparently there's been a nike and now a wilson ball? Why would you change Spalding whose been doing it the longest and IMO have the best basketball period

But this year it has not been announced where are we going to use for state but cannot wait 😮
You actually can. You see different teams have different play styles. The ball could be much more advantageous against particular play styles. While I agree both teams have the same disadvantage, one of those teams may be much more adaptable than the other.
@@tylerwilson6468 that’s part of the game, whichever team handles pressure best, whichever team stays more focused wins. Some teams adapt to and handle crowd pressure better than others, but nobody is complaining about it.
Of course one basketball brand is shared by both teams during a game. They're not stopping to switch out balls with each change of possession. You missed the whole point of this video, which is that, because of ball contract obligations, the brand a team uses for home games and home practices is often different than the brand they have to use for either an away or neutral-site game.
@@krunner000 Lol, you realize that "handling pressure" and "staying focused" are correlated to the basketball? The equipment must be standardized and consistent.
@@tylerwilson6468 seriously, Kentucky fans are always so desperate. All those bold predictions aged so badly and now y’all have smarting egos and are trying to make up excuses for your team. My point is, yes they used a different ball that the teams don’t normally use, but you can’t blame it on that. If your team’s success is so fragile that a different ball shatters them, than they aren’t much of a team in the first place.
Kentucky wasn’t cheated, both teams get the same ball. Kentucky wasn’t close to championship material this year. UConn would have destroyed them easy, but k-state took care of them early. They weren’t going to the final four this year, everyone knew that. You people need to accept that they lost fairly and stop trying to come up with excuses for it.

Teams without a ball contract could use each season's ball, and as long UK has a ball contract UK would rarely be playing with each season's ball. 🤔
There is definitely something up with the ball! And it doesn't seem good!
