- Episode 3 of GeminiTay's Survival let's play in minecraft 1.18. Today we start by getting some of the new advancements, and then build a farm! Complete with big sprawling fields for every crop type, sheep, and a windmill. After some caving, and making an enchantment setup, we are definitely ready to take on more of the world!

I made a giant spiral tube from top to bottom and accidentally got the achievement while making it! Then I doused a bunch and lost all my stuff. Don’t try if you’re not ready. 😔
For someone like me, who focuses on the aesthetics more than functionality, I think a classic wheat farms looks much prettier than a high tech, high yielding multipurpose farm.

Hey Gem, the correct geological term for the location of your base is a "Pound". A pound is an area of land fully enclosed by a landmass, or multiple landmasses, in this case, mountains. I hope this little piece of information will give you joy, and that it will help you come up with names for your base area, like "Snowy Pound" or maybe "Gemini Pound". This made me so happy because I've seen a lot of others be farther ahead with things, and my friends on our server are too, but you and I seem to be on roughly the same schedule as I am just about to start my farm area. And ironically just an hour ago I was looking and planning a tower (so I could look out across the land) when I realized... duh a windmill. It will fit in perfectly to my birch forest cozy cottagecore vibe. So I'm glad to see someone else who takes their time and enjoys the early game grind.
honestly, I prefer making giant farms. I don't like making industrial-like automated farms, there's something charming about a massive fields of wheat.

Couldn't agree more. I feel like automation just takes so much away from the game. Imagine never having to collect food, wool, iron. They defeat the purpose of the game!

I agree and I personally enjoy harvesting crops and looking at the fields, I did used to make Auto ones in my underground bases though for years I didn't really build I'd live in a hole and just kill the bosses then start a new world

honestly, the more grind-y bits of Minecraft are one of my favorite parts too! spending the time farming or gathering the resources to build something cool is one of my favorite things about it!

Cool! I just found and set up an xp grinder by my spawnbase and got enchanting last night too! LOVING 1.18 so far. Especially the mob spawning lighting change. I'm taking advantage of it with darker, moodier lighting this time around. 😁
I’m playing along on this seed and in that massive cave with the diamonds I made a huge staircase that leads from the surface all the way down for quick in and out access…that cave keeps going and going! I’m definitely with you on building a cave city in that area! This whole seed is just so inspiring!

That transition to playing the jukebox music for the advancement to using it as timelapse music was *chef's kiss*.

Gemini I would suggest using the extra seeds to either expand your world or use them for bonemeal to get moss to incorporate in builds. Hope this helps!
Also, use the wheat, carrots, and beetroot to trade with villagers. Get many emeralds and you could get enchanted diamond gear in a couple episodes. (Also, idk if the Misty Meadows reference was made up on the spot or what, but that was a Chapter 2 POI lol)

You should put a pretty wall around the village! Then after that u could put sea lanterns or torches in the ground with the moss stuff over it to hide the torches or sea lanterns!

Just a suggestion for fields like this, I like to do a river and small puddles instead of one water blocks. You do get less wheat, but if it’s only decorative then it makes it look way more natural and a bit more unique.

😆 So true! The harsh change between snow and rain always bugged me too! There needs to be some sort of transition between weather!
@@ThatOneLadyOverHere ooh, maybe a new carpet-size block that's ice on the ground! The player can slide on it a little less than on regular ice, and the "sleet" or "freezing rain" that would fall in between rainy and snowy areas would lay that down. Perhaps it would be a lower chance/rate of spawning a layer than snow, so you gat that patchy look that happens when the temperature in an area hovers right around freezing for a while

You can use a 1-level bookshelf arrangement around your enchanting table and place torches between the table and bookshelves to get different enchantments. :) When you place anything - even carpets - between bookshelves and the table, those bookshelves will become unusable by the table, which will think it has less bookshelves around it and it will give you different enchantments.
So you can try blocking different shelves for more options before you spend XP and lapis on throwaway enchantments. Also, to save as much XP as possible, I block all the bookshelves and the table will settle for very little XP. Then I choose the lowest tier enchantment and I also save lapis. :) This is very helpful early game.

if you want to make your base/first farm automatic get a few dispensers and hoppers and place the dispensers at the top of the fields and the hoppers at the bottom to collect the items that have been removed from the field it works when you need to harvest a large area and all you have to do afterwards is to plant them all back.

With games like Minecraft and Animal Crossing and the like, there is something greatly satisfying about just tooling around and doing all the simple necessary tasks of living. Just going around harvesting crops manually is satisfying, which I think is why I usually keep the old beginning farm even after I’ve build automatic super whopper farms.
This let’s play series is so much fun to watch. Me having anxiety, I always thought that screens made jt worse. Now, watching your let’s go series, I feel calmer. I enjoy how peaceful it is and how much fun jt is to listen to you

Todays episode was a perfect balance of relaxing and fun!
They have the same achievement in bedrock edition, and my over-complicated brain deduced that you had to take the full damage of the fall and still survive. Fortunately, it turns out that it is indeed possible when you pair feather falling 4 with a turtle master 2 potion

I made the exact same spider farm from the same tutorial last week. I'm doing a dwarf run with some friends, and we're not allowed to leave the cave we settled, so the spider dungeon was really lucky for our wool needs. When we don't need exp, I modified the end with a higher ceiling, moved the trap doors up to the bottom of the block above, and slapped a magma cube where the center slab is. The spiders step on it and 90% of the time the string goes in the side 2 hoppers. Also if you just punch the spider and let it burn to death you still get the exp (at least on bedrock ed). Now I'm just AFKing there to get all the string/wool we'll ever need.
Hey Gem! I dont know if you realized but, deepslate coal is one of the rarest ores now! The coal stops right at deepslate, so get a silk pick and grab some!

When I use farms, I usually place a fence post in the water source then perch a lantern or torch on top so it keeps the mobs out
