I grew up surfing the south island of NZ and having moved to the lower tropics I am completely at home. Surfing cold water is a young persons game and I developed early arthritis from the cold water in the winter. One bonus of constant cold water is you can lower your body temperature slightly to rock around in t shirts and shorts in the winter without feeling it. Nothing like hypothermia each 4 times a week. Can't talk, blue lips fingers don't work, testicles retract internally for a couple of hrs after ( button on a fur coat🤣) Uncrowded though.
If you're looking for a trip of a lifetime Alaska has more breaks than than you can imagine the hunting and fishing are also world class you can go weeks without seeing another human it's a real trip with bears on land and everything you can think of in the water Absolutely beautiful but not for the faint of heart but worth the trouble or adventure depending how you look at it Thanks for sharing another killer video Dan the Man Be well and God Bless 👍🤙
@@headmondronary2127 Yea totally agree we stayed for a month the bears were quite plentiful though we didn't have any problems with them other than mentally you Definitely have to be smart and aware but wouldn't trade the experience for anything and having access to a decent boat made all the difference Be well my friend and hope that you have many barrels in your future God Bless 👍🤙
Went to Scotland in the fall for 6 weeks camping in the 90s. Great trip. Surfed almost every day, either the Atlantic or North Sea. I actually liked it better than Costa Rica because i like the cold grey overcast vibes. The sun was a bonus. I reckon it's crowded now at the top breaks.
Bundoran in May/June is Heaven. The sun never sets and the waves aren’t too big. Plenty of glassy days. As the summer goes on the quality drops and the crowds pick up.
Great list! I scored 3 of those already and had a blast in all of them! Some of the best surf trips of my life, better than Mexico, Peru and Rio! Chile is a no-brainer if you're a goofy! Will be scoring Iceland soon! 🤞
Back in the day (80s maybe early 90s) a Surfer mag had a a world map marking up in red unsurfed coastline and annotated 'unsurfed will be surfed with better wetsuit technology'. At the time, I thought they're mad innagining surfing in Iceland, Norway and Aleutian Islands. As we know surfing in those three places did happen.
not planing on surfing in wet suit ever but i really like youre videos =) just planing a surf trip to brazil and youre vids about rio helped me alot . thanks for that and saludos from costa rica
Yeah Dan the man love ya vids still gets cold here in the Illawarra Australia but 16 tops you're talking seriously cold water! Dunno how you would move in wetsuits that thick but would love to try. Keep up the awesome work legend 👏
They say Norway is epic. Maybe do a video about surfing in seas instead oceans. I surfed for about 10 years in the Northsea (Belgium and Netherlands also cold) they have a huge surfscene community.
I watched just to see if he mentioned South Africa at all, but glad it didn't come up. Seems most international surfers are unfamiliar with the colder temperatures and epic surf around here. I always enjoy surfing the West Coast with heavy waves, multiple spots to choose from and a giant crowd of 2. (Obviously excluding Elands on a good day).
I don#t know if you surf much in cold water ;)... because a 4/3 in 7,5°C Water won#t do at all I think... (scotland sheet). Nice video nonetheless. cheers
He probably left us out because we have only had about 10 decent days of surf this year mainly this week lol🌧️🤣🌊🥶💨💨💨. Early spring is looking a lot better though !.
In general, the colder the water the smaller the crowds! And there’s nothing better than having the waves all to yourself!
Not true man🙂
Yeah I guess there are a lot of uncrowded spots that are cold, but defo surfed my share of cold and crowded haha...

Hey Michael!! That place sounds so so epic! Would love to go there one day :)
Take a rifle on beach camping I've been advised.

*Whole different ballgame than Panama* 😅 glad our 5/4 hooded wetsuit keeps you warm though 🔥
Haha yeah, just a little different ;)
Loved this because I'm a cold guy :) Good one, Dan.
Sick! Thanks mate :)
Great Vid mate. I’m from Tassie, not good waves here ;) nah come on down. Find it hard to find people to surf with on the west coast during week days.
Hahah! Sick mate! I can imagine... What a problem to have though haha!!

Sick!! Yeah Thurso and anywhere well-known is crowded for sure!
Can't believe you slipped my increasingly crowded local spot on your video...that is why your experience with locals is a bad one.

Sick mate!!
That left slab in “New Zealand” is Kiama bombie in Australia lol
Haha, caught out ;) To be fair, this was just a piece of stock footage I found, that kinda fit the vibe (colours and light etc...)
World Class waves on the Oregon Coast, Cold Water.

Cool video mate! One place you left out is South Africa. Cape Town has loads of great spots and the water is super cold!
Thank you!! Yes great shout, that could be in there for sure!!

Videos like this help to increase the crowd at the lineups, thank !!
The locals in Alaska will be devastated
Devastated that I give super detailed breakdowns of where the waves are...
If I mention a spot on this channel (like any of the waves mentioned in this), they are already famous and crowded...
I cringed when I saw the title. I love the solitude of the cold water spots. You only mention the well known spots and that’s something I guess.
hi from south chile land of lefts, have packed my 5/4mm
Sick!!
They say Norway is epic. Maybe do a video about surfing in seas instead oceans. I surfed for about 10 years in the Northsea (Belgium and Netherlands also cold) they have a huge surfscene community.
Sick!! Yeah, that would be an interesting video for sure!
Winter in New Jersey (US)
Good shout!!
You didn’t mention Tassies rivermouths, best wave I’ve surfed
Cape town water gets down to 9 degrees in Spring and the waves fire.
Sick!!

What about Oregon & Washington that's some cold water and really good Surf🤙👍
Could definitely be in there!!
WINTER IS LIFE
Ireland is not in the uk fyi 🤙🏻
Its only been 102 years!
Depends if we're talking about Northern Ireland or not ;)

Of course! Might have made a mistake there. Definitely need a 5/6mm in that water!!
Thanks for the heads up!!
Would rather spend the money going to somewhere tropical. I only get like 3 months of surfing without a wetsuit per year where I live.
Yeah fair enough!!
Catlins 🤤
Shhhh🤐
you haven't included Cornwall 🙂
He probably left us out because we have only had about 10 decent days of surf this year mainly this week lol🌧️🤣🌊🥶💨💨💨. Early spring is looking a lot better though !.
Norway ,Canada,Scotland, and Ireland would be way colder than Tassy.Tassys the same latitude as the south of France
I went to Tassie in November (start of summer), and needed a 4/3mm, boots and a hood… still snow on the hills haha… 😬🥶
The wave in Bristol deserves an honorary mention it was 5 degrees the other day 😆
nearly to the point of ice skating lessons
Hahah wow, that's freezing!!
If I need more than a 3/2 with a rashy underneath then I’m not going.
Hahaha! Fair enough mate 😂
