    Sounds very familiar, most of the times if you have multiple problems they are created by the last guy working on it!

    Glad to see that you can fix cars 😜
    Good video, always more challenging when someone has been messing!
    So the route cause would have been the window switch that blew the main (missing) fuse in the first place? (at least, as far as we know)

    Really nice video and enjoyed the diagnostic case study. It's jobs like this one that shows why we make the big bucks in the shop! Like to see more of them. Also since it sounds like you are the shop foreman/manager have you ever thought of doing a video about "divorcing" a problem customer? Just thought you might have a few thoughts on the subject and I have a problem customer that I might be needing to "divorce"

    They was helpful I am having the same problem with my 2004 grand marquis and I have replaced everything has a new battery, new stater, new starter Relay and it boils down to have a bad ignition switch this video was helpful so that’s the new route to put a new ignition switch on it and hopefully that’s exactly what it is and was

    Oh the ones you have to figure out after someone else monkeyed around it first... Good find. Funny you posted this video because I JUST had 2017 RDX yesterday from a body shop that had no communication after they did some right frame rail repair and an engine room harness. Long story short, the right front window connector and the F-CAN connector on the cabin harness are interchangeable where the cabin and engine room harnesses connect. Kinda need F-CAN connectivity at the PCM.... oops haha. I would have loved to see the look on the body guys face when he was told.

    Nice one. What is your opinion on putting a car on a assymetric lift in reverse. Just wondering cause i have a rotary spoa9 in my home shop and i havnt done this but i was just kinda speculating. It seem as long as the weight is distributed correctly it should be fine right? Figured uv been using lift your whole life so ud be the one to ask. Thanks frm

    • @flatratemaster
      @flatratemaster  6 лет назад +2

      I also worked for challenger lifts;) as long as weight distribution is right you shouldn't have issues, now getting the correct distribution is a little hard.

    my son has a 2002 grand marquis, it had a drain on the battery. charged it up, started it and he ditched the car in snow storm. had car towed to shop. car would not start, thought it was frozen. had shop put in inside for the night. went to shop the next day to get the thawed out car, had to use jump pack. fuel pump working-check. brake cable had been stretched out either while putting in the ditch or getting towed out.
    turned car over again after testing fuel pump, and smoke comes out from inside the driver side front wheel well. any ideas what is in there???

  • @RipRoaringGarage
    @RipRoaringGarage 2 года назад

    I can make this A LOT more difficult. (Also, that looks like an 03-04 GM, based on the steering wheel buttons. 05 and up had fewer).
    So, same problem, no crank, has ignition power, ACC, etc, but no crank. HOWEVER, all the fuses are fine, the Jcase is fine, the relay is fine. All voltages check out at the solenoid, yet no crank. Has a brand new Ford starter (old one was good but so corroded the terminals broke off, and overall nasty with rust). New Ford neutral safety switch (which I think was more of a parts cannon diagnosos, my bad, but still kept the old OK one. It was rusted and fused to the input selection shaft, which needed cleaning anyways. Car sat for over 7 years).
    Still no clue. Yes, I know I should have some kind of diag, but dont (Maybe you can recomment what I would need, since Im looking at a Snapon Apollo D9, since it can do some coding, adding the VIN to the PCM/TCM unless I'm wrong and I need a full blown setup with a Bosch Jbox. Im not looking forward to that spending, nor going into debt but Im not seeing a solution. Ive had to shift to modern cars lately because not many people bring me their classics anymore, as most of my clients passed away, traded in for C8 Vettes, or moved to Florida...Im kind of using this car as me learning ECU problems, since it was my car, that got totalled, has a lot of sentimental value, as well as being a very rare 1 of 1 CV Sport model, the only 1of1 known to have been made during the whole Panther Platform lineup)
    Anyways, any help would be great. Both on the no crank issue, as well as what diag setup I should get (I wish I could say money is no issue but...)

    • @RipRoaringGarage
      @RipRoaringGarage 2 года назад

      @Donald Prairie I did, but the shop manual as well as Chilton and Hayes has some very strange wording regarding the ground side. I was getting 12v, but since the neutral switch is on the ground side, it made it seem as if the computer was doing A LOT more than I would normally have assume. I can chalk it up to reaching that frustation point. Since I wrote the comment, I managed to get a Zeus, and that showed no codes at all...
      That along with the voltage drop while turning the ingition (so igntion switch works) confirmed that despite it being a new part, it was bad.
      I know the saying, just because its new, doesnt mean it works...but this is a tough repair. This was the car I wrecked in, and broke my neck in. I should have checked that first thing (I did check the starter itself by hotwiring it with jumpers, but I skipped checking the solenoid)

    Got one for ya. 2000 mercury grand marquis. Changed out the starter and the battery. Get one click then everything goes dead. Wont light up dash, the gage says battery is dead. Put the charger on brand new battery and it says %50, sometimes nothing at all. Tried to jump it, one click and everything dies again. Checked the wires on the starter and battery, they're all tight. I give up.......
