I still dont understand why Alonso got a post-race 30 second penalty for driving in 'unsafe conditions' (the loose mirror), when FIA itself didnt bother waving the black and orange flag. Any team would avoid pitting for repairs unless absolutely necessary, it's not logical to expect teams to make that call themselves. It's incredibly unfair to punish Alonso this way

    • @the-real-zpero
      @the-real-zpero 2 года назад +323

Yep, I agree. If they didn't tell them to pit because of the loose mirror, they can't hand out a penalty for it... It's ridiculous.

Wait, they penalised Alonso? Did they then penalise Perez? Because his front wing was damaged and flapping around for multiple laps until it broke off and went flying towards the fence, Marshall's and spectators.

It wasn't for the loose mirror but the absence of a mirror that made the car unsafe.

Alonso is a beast. He literally almost dies in a flying F1 car and then has the poise to control the car, drive back to pits, get repairs and come out like nothing happened. What stings most here is that during the race, Haas notified the FIA of the loose mirror multiple times and the FIA responded with "we're looking into it". They then decided not to meatball Fernando, maybe because they took too much time and the mirror was gone already. And then after the race they say "you're a bad boy Fernando, WE let you drive with an unsafe car. You are getting the harshest penalty after disqualification because we didn't react quick enough." It's like the Gasly incident in Japan with the crane on track. They do something obviously wrong, but nit pick on the driver to cover up their own incompetence. Going to say something that will get reactions, but because of the nature of the crash, it should be a race ban for Stroll. One, because it's not the first time Stroll has done something like this, the Latifi/Stroll crash in the Australian Qualifying comes to mind, and two, it honestly also reminded me of the Hamilton/Alonso/Grosjean crash at Belgium 2012, which saw Grosjean get at race ban.
It also brought up memories of the Webber crash in 2010, and we've seen Zhou's car upside down also doesn't help the situation either.
Admittedly, it's never going to happen, but at the same time, Stroll needs to learn that this is unacceptable, and the only way it feels like he'll finally get the message is a race ban.

Not trying to defend Stroll, but Alonso waited literally till the last possible moment to get out of the slipstream. He had enough speed to pass him leaving more space. I don't think Stroll's 100% at fault there. Yes, he didn't catch him in the mirrors (if he even looked), but still - Alonso nearly drove into him while overtaking him. We rarely see drivers come that close to another car. And, with Alonso having pretty much 20 years of experience in and around F1, he should have known better. That's my take on that.

I don't agree that the car overtaking should "trust the driver in front to not make knee jerk reactions". when you are tailgating someone for the slipstream and end up almost inside his rear diffuser just to get a bit more of a boost down the straight a) you have no visibility of the way ahead of you and b) you're forcing the driver to defend without moving or changing acceleration. if there was another similar battle behind stroll and Alonso and the driver in front were to brake, or even lift off the throttle, because he's seen the incident, does the fault for slamming into the back of the driver now fall on the attacking car, or the one defending. Tailgating is never safe in my opinion.

Strolls defence was not bad. The problem is is that in F1, you can only make one defensive move. Lance moved once, near the middle of the track, and then moved again. That is why Fernando hit him in the back. The reason that happened is that as Fernando saw Lance make 1 defensive move, Fernando was getting close in the slipstream to make a pass on the left hand side but get as close as possible as he thought Lance would not illegally make a defensive move again. But Lance moved twice which you cannot do in Formula 1

For a few months now I started watching your videos less often because I fell like there is a lot of negativity and criticism towards the sport which used to be passion. I think that might be largely due to how the algorithm works, pushing more of the "controversial" videos into recommendations and notifications, because controversial things tend to generate more "discussion" (i.e. argument) in the comments section, and the algorithm is biased towards things that have more "interaction," of which comments are a main form. More interaction implies more eyeballs looking, which means they can get more ad views and hence make more money. Across the spectrum of social media, not just F1 topics.

Don’t blame the camera angle - the “hole in the wall” is overlapping; they purposefully don’t put a square edge there for exactly this reason. The camera position merely lines up with that wall so well (and is so far away) that you can’t tell how long it is. Alonso would have had to pull a U-turn to have crashed into any wall there (but it’s Alonso so he perhaps could have flexed those muscles too).

This was very scary. Reminded me of Dario Franchitti's career ending crash where the car got launched like that but into the catch fence. Had the car been closer to the fence, the same kind of nasty accident could have happened here as well.

What was a miracle is that Alonso was safe and could complete the race, I thought his car would have been retired

Saw the move earlier today and couldn't agree more. I wonder what the relationship is going to be like between the two of them once they become teammates

There was a Drake-esque meme floating around right after the Alonso to AM announcement, like [Lawrence Stroll frowning]: "Fire your son because he's not good a enough driver" / [Lawrence Stroll smiling]: "Keep hiring multi-time world champions as his teammate so he quits out of embarrassment"
      😂😂

I’ve been in Canada many times and let me tell you …. Stroll and lattifi drive just like most Canadians , they never check their mirrors and they don’t care if they cut you off

I honestly don't think the FIA penalized Lance harshly enough. You get a bigger grid penalty for changing your engine too many times than what they gave Lance, and he sent somebody into the air with a horrible block. Should've been a 5 place grid penalty at the least or a pit lane start for the next race at worst.

Tell you what else didn't make sense we seen magnussen being black flagged several times this season very quickly yet perez did 6 laps with his end plate hanging off yet the flag didn't come out. Guarantee of that was magnussen he would have been waved in by lap 3.

Well looking on the onboards and Palmers analasys you can see Alonso turning right, right before the contact. Imo yall are way to harsh on Stroll just because it looked like a major inscident, but in reality the move was so minor and Alonso making misstakes himself.

Maybe we can attach Alonso's mirror that flew to Stroll's car to compensate for his spatial awareness problem

I dont care what anyone tells me. Alonso is the greatest driver to ever grace f1. What he did here at the usa gp is not human. Give this guy a red bull ferrari or even a Mercedes and he wins the championship. Fricking monster

Makes you realise just how talented Alonso is
To not crash into the wall at all in that type of situation is very rare
