Great review! I played Nova Roma 4 times now and I absolutely love the game. The level of interaction, the races/area control and the set-up variantions make this game incredibly replayable. And the system is really clean. It took me no more than 10 minutes to teach it, and I expect that I'll be even quicker at teaching in the future after more plays. The grid is just such a great system. 9.5 rating from me. I like it more than any of Shem Phillips' games which I like a lot.
@@stormburns I love Shem Phillips' games, top 3 game designer for me. He's just a symbolic setting of a bar to compare this game with. Nova Roma also feels like it could've been part of the West Kingdom trilogy (aside from not being in the right geographic location).
I very much appreciate the iconography and especially the little summary boxes for each of the actions. It makes teaching so easy, and I always refer to those boxes after explaining how each works. They are such a useful reference for new players.

Just curious, what does Shem Philips have to do with Nova Roma? Similar feeling to you or how come?

Sorry to bother you, but do you have any experience with this game solo?

Yes, I agree 100%!
I liked Nova Roma. Better than Endless Winter
100%
We just played thanks to your review - nice game!
"The Grid" sounds to me like that in Terracotta Army. Is it comparable?
The grid gives me Merv vibes. Am I wrong in that?
Grid system: Barcelona
Love the action selection system in both games 🤩
Isn’t the grid like Targi?
Would you describe this game as mean for 2 players? The dummy player seems mean.
Nah - it depends how you take it - there is always good options.
