She showed a flair for dance right from a young age and started taking professional lessons in Kathak, Bharatnatyam and Manipuri. Even though the Parsis were an orthodox community and her father’s decision to let her pursue dance was frowned upon, her father was very supportive as he believed she was learning an art form. It was with her father’s blessing that she got into films. She danced in countless films - Hindi films and for films in regional languages like Marathi, Punjabi, South Indian and Bhojpuri. She had a resemblance to Helen and has been mistaken for her from time to time. Her memorable performances include: the song “Huzur-e-wala jo ho ijaazat” from the film “Yeh Raat Phir Na Aayeg” (1966) where she and Helen perform as a duo in almost matching dresses; the song “Hum to kharab hue sanam” from the film “Samson” (1964); “Hai nazar ka ishara” from the film “Anita” (1967) where she and Bela Bose perform together; “Suno zindagi gati hai” from the film “Pagla Kahin Ka” (1970) where in an interesting twist Madhumati perform in a Helenesque avtar at a wedding where Helen is the bride; the theme song from the film “Night in London” (1967); and a cabaret number in the Bengali film “Kalankito Nayak” (1970). Madhumati currently runs an acting academy in Mumbai.

great dance song with two very similar and beautiful dancers....the legendary Helen and Madhumati. Helen being the original became a legend and had a distinct identity. Madhumati was also a genuine dancer but due to her similarity to Helen not only in dancing but also in looks, she was not as well known. In fact I remember many times I would confuse her with Helen. The man dancing with the guitar is Manohar Deepak, husband of Madhumati in real life.

O.P. Nayyar's end was very sad. He was a great man who created magic with his music. He was very punctual and orderly and didn't tolerate any delay or mismanagement. This led to disputes with his associates and eventually this talented man was isolated. He gave up music and started homeopathy in the far suburbs of Mumbai. His punctuality and dedication became the cause of his destruction. Everything is good only to a certain extent. Even good qualities.
I believe he was of military background, which made him very punctual.. and film industry doesn’t know what punctuality is.. more famous you are more late you get to places.. sad

What a prelude for 128 seconds!. Only OPN can create such prelude. The use of guitar, castanets, piano are wonderful. Listen to the use of Saxophone and how beautifully it is tuned with the voice of Asha. In the prelude there is alternate between Saxophone and Asha. Close your eyes and listen and you will not find the difference between saxophne and Ashaji's voice. wonderful combination and so intricately composed. Need to give credit to the great combination to the artistes. What follows after the prelude very optly suits it.

superb information. Her sister Vaishali also acted in Hindi films and Her Brother Piloo Reporter was a Test Cricket Umpire.

It is indeed unfortunate that the music arrangers, who really made these songs so great, never received due credit. great dance song with two very similar and beautiful dancers....the legendary Helen and Madhumati. Helen being the original became a legend and had a distinct identity. Madhumati was also a genuine dancer but due to her similarity to Helen not only in dancing but also in looks, she was not as well known. In fact I remember many times I would confuse her with Helen. The man dancing with the guitar is Manohar Deepak, husband of Madhumati in real life.

O.P. Nayyar's end was very sad. He was a great man who created magic with his music. He was very punctual and orderly and didn't tolerate any delay or mismanagement. This led to disputes with his associates and eventually this talented man was isolated. He gave up music and started homeopathy in the far suburbs of Mumbai. His punctuality and dedication became the cause of his destruction. Everything is good only to a certain extent. Even good qualities.
I believe he was of military background, which made him very punctual.. and film industry doesn’t know what punctuality is.. more famous you are more late you get to places.. sad

What a prelude for 128 seconds!. Only OPN can create such prelude. The use of guitar, castanets, piano are wonderful. Listen to the use of Saxophone and how beautifully it is tuned with the voice of Asha. In the prelude there is alternate between Saxophone and Asha. Close your eyes and listen and you will not find the difference between saxophne and Ashaji's voice. wonderful combination and so intricately composed. Need to give credit to the great combination to the artistes. What follows after the prelude very optly suits it.
