Traditional technique. When using a baren or the hands, a very small quantity of lubrication is needed. Therefore the printers usually touch the rubbing tools on the forearm or cheeks.
Why this gentleman touches his chicks before rubbing the paper? I also saw the same action while doing ukioye technique, when artist pressing the paper with baren. I am extremely curious about this special acrcion.
I'm curious as to why he rubs his cheeks. Is it to rub off any excess powder that would be detrimental, or to pick up moisture/oils that somehow ease the process?
I think its also for static. There are some paper craftsmen in my town who do the same thing and it removes any static from your hands or the paper so it lays flat. Im sure its good luck as well though!
Beautiful! Let's hope that those skills won't be forgotten.
The process itself is an art and the end product trully is astonishingly beautiful. The designs evoke emotions.
The cheek touch for good luck 😁

This is truly beautiful. Can you explain why the face is touched first. Thank you so much.
Which part is said "face"?
I am sorry. Before the paper is smoothed over the wood block the artisan touches his cheeks. Thank you
@@aoyamasquare The artist touches his face before printing. I think is a personal thing
Maybe to remove static electricity that can make the paper to stick on his hands?

Cảm ơn bạn!
Could you tell us the title of the song used in the video?

@@aoyamasquare *after google translate* ah, I see. that makes sense.
Beautiful...but why he touch his cheeks
Thank you!
I was going to ask why he rubs both sides of his face after he lays the paper down but I see a comment below says he touches his cheeks for good luck
