Just watched USA get knocked out against Belgium,ok they lost but they played with drive, commitment, and more passion than any England player could ever dream of, they can go home with their heads held high unlike the overpaid over hyped England players who virtually snook back into England, i didnt expect England to win the cup just wanted to see some passion and direction in our game and there was none, we are so far behind so many countries both as individuals and as a team

Not much point reading too much into the draws with Ecuador and Honduras, the key is to be match fit and avoid injury until the tournament proper, not peaking too early by thrashing sides in friendlies.

They didn't exist at this point and were not in the first founded ligue. That's why they didn't get mentioned I think :)

I'm a Brit living in the U.S. (used to live in Eastbourne, Sussex when I was little) and over the years, I've always supported England but have been let down so many times. I remember the start of my let downs was I think in Euro '96 when it went to penalties against Germany I believe. I remember Garreth Southgate 'kicking' the ball and it just rolled along the ground with no power. After that, it has been more upsets after more upsets. I hope this time around, England can make it to the semis. I would be over-joyed, more than any other country who has won the world cup, if we could get a second star.
It's not an upset if England is expected to lose. And England won't win the World Cup.
TheLordoftheRavens Its an upset for any Englishman if they lose. You never WANT to see your team lose and so far, quite a few games have shows upsets of their own with teams not expecting to win, trouncing their bigger opponents.
BlueonGoldZ Of course no one wants their team to lose, but an upset occurs when an underdog beats a favored opponent. In which cases are England favorites? I can't think of many, except maybe some group stage games. England is rarely expected to beat strong opponents. So a loss to a team like Germany or Italy really isn't an upset. It's expected.

Lol sturridge only got on the list due to the impact of Suarez in games. Rooney is the only English player who is good. Gerrard only had a good season because of Suarez finishing and scored pretty much only on penalties.

Luke Shaw is way too overhyped and never should have gotten a team of the season. Gerrard scored mostly on penalties and because Suarez is a beast. Sturridge is good, but in no way in the top ten of the league this year. Cahill is a big fucking joke of a player that only got their because Chelsea parked the bus. Kompany made Cahill look like a joke this season. Hell Luiz performed better than Cahill. Hazard makes Sterling look like a joke. Sterling has potential but again is too over hyped. He will be great in a couple of years, but even mentioning him as one of the greatest players of the BPL is a fucking joke just like Lallana. Don't compare the brilliance of Xavi with the opportunist of Gerrard at all. Ozil had a crap season but was still better than almost every english player this season. Jovetic, Yaya, Aguero, and Silva again make English players look like a joke. Oscar, Mata, Coutinho, Eriksen... The players you named are not even close to being great in the league. Stupid English fans try to over hype mediocre players by trying to compare them to world class players.
Fureth32 Rooney is ok for Man United but he always fails for England. Still 0 World Cup goals. Sturridge has played one game and he already has more.

Me and my missus favorite position is called the "England football team"!... Neither of us know what we're doing or why we're there, there's no passion no communications and we never make it past the 1st stage. Theres horrible dribbling and never a clean sheet. Its over far too quickly and when it does end I know it'll be at least another four fuckin years before it happens again! :)

England won't win anything unless they go away from their grit/determination style of play and instill disipline. England players have access to top top football schools but premier league managers still rarely pick them so please don't blame foreign players in the premier league . Take teams like holland/germany, they don't play fancy football just are tight,disiplined and strong.
In my opinion they are considered one of the most unluckiest team because of 2010 and the Hand of god goal

Some WC groups are quite easy, but considering England group did not contain a single top team while every World Cup group contains at least one decent side, I would say the WC groups are harder. England did not even have the hardest group in Europe. I would say Belgium's group was the hardest, followed by Germany's.

I'd say this England team is similar to the Germans in 2010.
Lots of young relatively unknown players living the dream and look they got to the semis.
I mean we dont have the star names that we have had for the last few tournaments but thats all good. Whether it was playing an injured Beckham or just the fact we were a team full of prima donnas there was always a feeling that half the players were bigger than the team and that half were picked because of who they are rather than what was best for the team. That is just not there this time.
I'm not going to say anything about how far we go as I honestly think getting out the group will be an achievement but we are certainly expecting very little this year so as long as we go out and play well we can be happy, that is the crucial part.

The fact that most top European teams performed poorly is because of the Atmosphere in Brazil... and thats why practically all South American Teams have done well... however, certain European teams have managed to "perfect" the surroundings around them so thats why they are winning by a BIG margin (Eg. Netherlands) - Point is this... its not that Englands players or coach/mangers were rubbish... coz most European teams performed poorly.. it was in my opnion becoz of the Atmosphere/weather - ENGLAND WILL WIN ONE DAY!!!

What England has to worry about is the refs against Italy. Italy dive like crazy and I fear the refs will reward the flopping like usually. If it's a fair game England's pace will be too much for the old Italy team to handle

TheLordoftheRavens Not really. The key phrase was "If it's a fair game". Gerrard and Sturridge were both brought down in the penalty box with blatant body checks from outpaced Italian defenders. No penalties awarded - no surprises there, given England's history of getting nothing from referees at recent world cups. (Lampard's goal, Maradona's hand).
rotamina Those were not penalties, at least not according to Ian Darke and Steve McManaman (who are English, if you don't know). If the Italian player stands there and the English one runs into him, it's not a foul on the Italian. Both of those plays were a bit controversial, but the refs made the correct call. But if you want to bring up controversial ref decisions, then how about all those times Immobile was called offsides even though he looked like he was on? Hoping for an illegitimate penalty to equalize is not a good strategy. The Italians' defense was impeccable, as usual. Which brings up another point. Going down against the Italians is also not a good strategy, because the Italians' strategy is to score and then defend with 11 men.
Gerrand's didn't deserve a penalty kick but the other one did. Still no excuses for England,they had a lot of chances and were unable to finish them.
J Smith I don't understand why Rooney can't score. He had some great chances, but he simply couldn't do it. Teams should stop putting a man on him because he won't find the back of the net anyways.
