I just have to say if it weren't for the offspring, I would've never found out about AFI. I bought the 'Me, Myself, and Irene' soundtrack back in the day and I always had a habit of looking at the booklet to see who was credited, thanked, who produced/mixed etc.... I found AFI was credited for the song. I had no internet because of course it was back in the day. . So I went to Sam Goody and found the All Hallows EP, bought it, and have been an AFI fan ever since Btw, I still love the offspring as well (a LOT). They inspired me to get into guitar.
well, it was pretty smart way to finance AFI. AFI was on Dexters label, Nitro Records, so when the offspring covered AFI, Royalties from the soundtrack (Me, Myself and Irene) went to AFI.
I agree with all of that! And I didn't know that Nitro went under. That sucks. So I guess that's why AFI had to find a new label. I think some fans assumed that they "sold out" because they went to a major label. I think that they deserve the success. They have worked hard for years.
Why do I remember AFI doing The Meaning of Life at one point? Did that actually ever happen, am I from a parallel universe, or was I just high and imagined it?
No bias at all. I just decided to use the live version because I got frustrated trying to make the studio version fit over this video. The live version was shortened in places, so it was a challenge. But I fixed it. The video is titled AFI VS The Offspring PT One Audio Edit.....check it out if you feel so inclined.
AFI all the way, but I'm just attached to the original is all. This one's good too, but after after listening to AFI's version and seeing them do it live, I gotta say I like AFI's better.
I don't know. I think in 2000, AFI was almost unknown. The Offspring was maybe a little more mainstream and that's why they used them. But both bands were once on the same record label so they know each other, and are friends.
That's true. But they actually had some success with Sing The Sorrow in 2003. I think that was the "breakout" album for them. They are fairly well known now, but still not a household name. They are too talented to stay unknown.
Dexter has a weird and awkward voice for a singer..but still kicks ass...The Offspring therefore is my second fave band. AFI-Davey IS Feminem, and Masculine...Overall first fave band. Both Kick Ass, Both Hardcore, Both Awsome...no one is more manly than another, and who gives a damn whether one is gay, bi, straight or whatever....OH wait that is YOU!
HELL NO MAN THIS IS AMAZING The Offspring blow AFI's version out of the water They made this song alot better, like AFI's version is a piece of crap compared to this.
What does gender have to do with talent? And how is Dexter more of a man than Davey? Do you know both of them intimately and can therefore compare their manhood?
They're both good. AFI's is the original, so it's better...but that live one sucked! (AFI seem to be 50/50 on live show quality...sometimes good, sometimes bad.) Also, I know you made a new version nephilim405
Pretty lady like? He's not wearing a dress! Just tight pants....like many other guys of varying sexual orientations. If you don't like his voice why did you bother to watch the video? And what exactly is kind of obvious about Davey? If he didn't tell you himself that he is (insert sexual orientation here) then how can you assume?
why the hell would you put a terrible live recording of afi next to offspring's polished studio version? AFI's studio version is much better than the offsprings but covers are supposed to be made different than the original so the offspring did a great job
I don't give a flying fuck on a Sunday what you think. It doesn't matter to me if anyone is gay, straight, trans-sexual, or a cross dresser. It is petty to judge people based on superficial things. And eyeshadow wearing doesn't make a person gay.
they are one in the same. the offspring gave them a platform to be known. they are both great. I know about AFI thanks to the offspring. you probably do too.
That's your opinion. But it's my opinion that you should learn grammar before you leave comments on You Tube. BTW what is "i stinking pile of shit"? Did you mean A stinking pile of shit?
Wow... This is the only version i can listen to. Fair enough, AFI made the original song, but it doesn't compare to this. And for part one... find a better video for them live. NOW. Davey sounds HORRIBLE at that show, the drums sound tinny and shitty, the guitar is awful, and the backing vocals sounds really faint and non-enthusiastic. So yeah. Offspring win, no contest.

I respect the original.
But for me the cover is much better.
Hey man I agree they're both great.
I agree with all of that! And I didn't know that Nitro went under. That sucks. So I guess that's why AFI had to find a new label. I think some fans assumed that they "sold out" because they went to a major label. I think that they deserve the success. They have worked hard for years.

Considering Dexter owns the record label that owns AFI they have every right to play their music
oh cmon..you pick a live version in AFI vs a recording that's been cleaned the fuck up? not fair!
How are you gonna compare a live version to a studio track?
That's awesome. Where is this show?
No bias at all. I just decided to use the live version because I got frustrated trying to make the studio version fit over this video. The live version was shortened in places, so it was a challenge. @helloieatchicken
I remember when AFI and Offspring fans got along...
those were the days
AFI all the way, but I'm just attached to the original is all. This one's good too, but after after listening to AFI's version and seeing them do it live, I gotta say I like AFI's better.

AFI version, is so much better. live or recording.
I do prefer dexters voice, but BOTH of them should sing this song together i think that would sound awesome!
afi sings it 100 percent better than offspring the all hallows ep was great
Both good versions but yall know this is an AFI original... gotta give em a little more credit guys
WTF?????? NASTY!!!!!
Dexter is a genius...great AFI song though
Dexter has a weird and awkward voice for a singer..but still kicks ass...The Offspring therefore is my second fave band.
AFI-Davey IS Feminem, and Masculine...Overall first fave band. Both Kick Ass, Both Hardcore, Both Awsome...no one is more manly than another, and who gives a damn whether one is gay, bi, straight or whatever....OH wait that is YOU!
Why can't people just get along and enjoy the music I like the offspring you might like AFI who cares a good song by 2 good bands jeez
O.O wtf! it sounds weird @,@' I stay with the original song by afi :P
HELL NO MAN
THIS IS AMAZING
The Offspring blow AFI's version out of the water
They made this song alot better, like AFI's version is a piece of crap compared to this.
What does gender have to do with talent? And how is Dexter more of a man than Davey? Do you know both of them intimately and can therefore compare their manhood?
the offspring has a clearer voice but on the guitar part i would say afi
Both are just about the same except for the singing of course but offspring cover songs for fun they rarely play cover songs live
They're both good. AFI's is the original, so it's better...but that live one sucked! (AFI seem to be 50/50 on live show quality...sometimes good, sometimes bad.) Also, I know you made a new version nephilim405

And what exactly is kind of obvious about Davey? If he didn't tell you himself that he is (insert sexual orientation here) then how can you assume?
The offspring version was just recorded better. It’s orchestrated and organized better and dexters voice is a lot more palatable.
why the hell would you put a terrible live recording of afi next to offspring's polished studio version? AFI's studio version is much better than the offsprings
but covers are supposed to be made different than the original so the offspring did a great job
I enjoy both bands, but no... Just no. This version is almost insulting.
John Flynn big facts
I don't give a flying fuck on a Sunday what you think. It doesn't matter to me if anyone is gay, straight, trans-sexual, or a cross dresser. It is petty to judge people based on superficial things. And eyeshadow wearing doesn't make a person gay.
I agree. I think The Offspring is a good band and I like some of their music, but this song was not their style and didn't fit.
they are one in the same. the offspring gave them a platform to be known. they are both great. I know about AFI thanks to the offspring. you probably do too.
Julian Calderon lol. no
The Offspring's version's better :)
The offspring are way better! I love AFI but The offspring have better guitarist! And dextar is more of a man than davey!!
i love the offspring but he was so horribly off-key. old school afi can not be topped.
That's your opinion. But it's my opinion that you should learn grammar before you leave comments on You Tube. BTW what is "i stinking pile of shit"? Did you mean A stinking pile of shit?

This version sucks, sounds awkward. At least in this case AFI is vastly better.
um u can only compare them on this song i like afi better then offspring but i think offspring did better then afi on this song cuz the voice
