    There should be more cruises out of Brisbane in Winter when whales are moving up the coast during Queensland’s peak tourist season.

    I live in northern NSW and it’s nearly the same price for me to fly to Brisbane or Sydney as it would be to Perth. In any case I would ABSOLUTELY cruise to WA if there was an option to do it on a major cruise line.

    Living in WA and only discovering cruising in the last 2 years, we are looking at traveling abroad now.. with the prices of flights to the east coast it's a no brainer for us to pay a little more and cruise in Asia or the Med due to the lack of options in Aus. Sad really but looking forward to our next trip early next year. Thanks for your work Adrian :)

    Totally agree Adrian. There needs to be one government department that deals with all things cruise. This piecemeal approach isn't/doesn't work clearly. You are right about us that don't live in Sydney/Brisbane. I live half way between Adelaide and Melbourne - we have to fly to Adelaide then to either Sydney or Brisbane to get a cruise. This adds (with accommodation) $2000-00 to our cruise cost. Its a common problem with East coast anything though - nothing exists the other side of the Blue mountains apparently ! 🙂

      Cruises are one of the few things where Brisbane gets a look in.
      Pretty well everything else, if it's not Sydney it's Melbourne, and if it's not Melbourne it's Sydney, with Brisbane left to pick over the crumbs from that duopoly.

    After such an adelaide boom its sad to lose that momentum without the explorer..... such an added cost to fly elsewhere for a family of 4. Also the lack of the 3 nighters now which were affordable from adl.

    We are definitely loosing cruise line & ships. As you point out it’s a debacle!!! Between port owners not facilitating or wanting to upgrade to take cruise ships 🚢.. even Melbourne as a port has lost quite a few ‘sailings’, we often have to fly up to Sydney to get on a ship. Looking in our region (as we’ve done previously) we will end up flying to Singapore 🇸🇬 just to be able to Cruise ☹️

    Actually I question whether cruise industry is generating "net" economic benefit to Australia which might be why politicians aren't really too fussed about it. For example my last cruise was with Royal Caribbean out of Brisbane, I reckon half of what I spent went overseas as Royal Caribbean are American and most of the crew are foreign. Most of the passengers were Aussie. Hence it would be considered an import in economic terms.

    • @TheCruiseandTravelGuy
      @TheCruiseandTravelGuy  Месяц назад +1

      If you only consider what you spent on the ship, then you'd be correct but that's very rarely the case. That thinking also avoids addressing local employment that the cruise industry supports, local suppliers from where produce is acquired, the money that cruisers spend in ports, pre/post cruise hotels, air travel, taxis, tours, restaurants. There's a lot more to it.

    • @Leo-vk6qm
      @Leo-vk6qm Месяц назад

      @@TheCruiseandTravelGuy That's why I've said "net" economic benefit. If I was choosing between 1 week on Gold coast vs 1 week cruise ship. The cruise ship holiday becomes an import.

    • @TheCruiseandTravelGuy
      @TheCruiseandTravelGuy  Месяц назад

      @@Leo-vk6qm do you mean to say that the funds spent by a cruise passenger pre/post/during a cruise, on land, are somehow diminished because that person also spent time onboard a ship, where the funds were to some extent (not totally) directed overseas?

    • @Leo-vk6qm
      @Leo-vk6qm Месяц назад

      @@TheCruiseandTravelGuy I'm looking at it from an economics and import/export perspective as the original point is that it's not a priority for politicians. I love travelling abroad but it's not in the interest of politicians to encourage tourism that takes money out of the Australian economy. Just like how no politician really encourages holidays to Bali when we have local destinations and operators. At the same time I still love Bali and cruise ship holidays, even though it's sending money abroad.

    As much as I love cruising out of Sydney, the airfares from Perth doubles the price of a holiday. We definitely need more choice from Fremantle. As well as other ports around the country. Cruise #3 from Sydney next year will most likely be our last. If I've got to fly somewhere to board a ship, it'll be somewhere new! Maybe Singapore? 😊 Would still prefer to Uber it to Freo port 😂

    I think Australia could attract a lot more cruise business. For me, not an Australian resident, I would love to do for instance an around Australia Cruise, which I guess would take 3 -4 weeks or so and people could do all or disembark somewhere else. Cruise lines could do what MSC and Costa do on Western Mediterranean cruises and allow multiple boarding points in Spain/France/Italy allowing the “locals” to join locally. That way Australians have a way to see their own country, at least the coast, by cruise without having to fly. Furthermore Perth could be a great starting point for cruises to various places in Indonesia as well as northern Australia.

    • @TheCruiseandTravelGuy
      @TheCruiseandTravelGuy  Месяц назад

      I'm with you, I think Australia is the perfect place to cruise! So many places to see and explore. Princess actually offers around Australia cruises (so does Holland America) and they last for about 28 nights. Princess is excellent for providing multiple boarding points and segments as well, they've really nailed the circumnavigation cruise.

    • @TheCruiseandTravelGuy
      @TheCruiseandTravelGuy  Месяц назад

      The Princess World Cruise has official segments, so they can only be booked from certain home ports. In Australia and NZ, that's only Auckland, Sydney and Brisbane.

    05:30 Looking at the cruise industry conference agenda, they would have been far better served if they had simply nuked the time waste garbage from 10:30am till 12:30pm, and moved the 12:30pm item to the 10:30am slot.
    Having a unified national strategy is a must, and keeping the strategy out of the hands of the political parties is essential for it to have any hope of working.
    Far too many times in every decade we have seen a great project launched by the political party in office, be trashed to the point where the project cannot be successfully recovered, by the party in opposition when the project was launched. This thoroughly destructive misbehaviour by the political parties needs to be stopped.
    Taking control of cruise ports away from the individual cities and states, and making them a federally controlled matter, would be a good first step.

    I know this is of topic but do you know much about what's going on in Noumea someone said we want be crusing there till next mid year they know people in the government and crusing industry just wondering as if so why have they not change crusies so then people can plan ahead especially if they don't like the stops especially christmas and news crusies. Just wonder if you know anything?? Maybe can you find out what's going on. We have a Christmas crusie 8 nights and 2 stops in Noumea..

    • @TheCruiseandTravelGuy
      @TheCruiseandTravelGuy  Месяц назад +1

      It's really unclear at this stage. I think cruise lines are still hopeful that they can sail back to Noumea, so they're taking a wait and see approach and if things improve enough, they won't make changes to upcoming itineraries. It's frustrating from the passenger perspective, because it's hard to plan ahead like you say.

    Great video Adrian. As a West Aussie, it's so sad to see the lack of cruising options. I know so many people - mainly elderly - who LOVE to cruise but now can't do the whole air travel thing so they're now stuck without the opportunity to do something they love. It's really sad that so many people miss out.

      *Labor
      And are you insinuating the Liberals would know what to do instead? They wouldn't know what to do with an economic boom if it smacked them in the face. Not hyperbole either, that's historical fact.
      This isn't a political issue, nor is it recent. This has been ongoing for quite a while. Politicians in general suck, with noticeably less suckage from Labor.
