Thanks to everyone who has let me know where these can be found and purchased individually!! I've left some links in the description. I really appreciate the help. :D
For what it's worth, Jackson's sells etchr in single sets! I'm not sure what their international shipping is though, so that would be something to bear in mind, but you can get them in singles.
Yes I’m so glad you tried out the Etchr sketchbooks! I purchased a triple pack of hot press sketchbooks a month ago, but even though they’re so expensive they’re so worth it in my opinion! I was going to ask a while ago if you were going to try/review the sketchbooks.
Definitely worth the money. I got a bundle deal with birthday money but it's an investment. With watercolors and transparent media the paper quality is so important.
miss Isboredofthis Exactly, I previously used Bockingford paper for example because the quality was fantastic but these in my opinion blow them out of the water.
i was wondering if you can treat this watercolor sketchbook as a mix media sketchbook? I'm not sure if it ideal for dry media, just to sketch with graphite because i am looking for a sketchbook that can handle wet media just as well as dry media. I've just been eyeing on this sketchbook for so long because of how well it handles watercolor (which I’ll be using mostly) but I’m not sure if it’ll be comfortable just sketching with graphite just to do a bunch of studies/observational work as well as with markers, acrylic, etc.
Hello! I bought two Etchr sketchbooks from Jackson's Art (cold press and hot press A4), shipping to Russia cost about 5 pounds. These are the cheapest and highest quality sketchbooks with 100% cotton paper. In Russia, a sketchbook of this size with cotton paper costs about $ 70-80 or more - twice more expensive! I would not recommend hot press sketchbooks, by the way, because the paper in it has a light yellowish tint, and it is thinner than cold press. But cold press is divine 8-)))
I am so incredibly grateful for your sharing of your talent as well as the honesty about how you are feeling at this place in time. thank you. much love to share! all of us.....
this video couldnt have been uploaded at a better time. ive been looking for a watercolor sketchbook! what makes it even better is youre using the same brand of watercolors i use the most. its like you made this video for me im doing heart eyes!
lol hi again ^^ I have been hand binding my own watercolor sketchbooks lately with Arteza's 100% cotton paper! (It was on sale a couple weeks ago.) I've been meaning to check out the etchr sketchbooks but the gsm of the paper has held me back considering the price -- but they look so nice! And their logo?! Adorable. I think the texture of the paper looks good, too -- considering how hard it is to find 100% cotton watercolor sketchbooks at reasonable sizes and prices.
I've got Etchr's 300gsm Perfect Sketchbook and the 230gsm ordinary sketchbook and am finding very little difference in how the two papers perform. I have used a lot of water and layers and both papers seem to take it really well. The cold press texture is very similar on both versions too.
First of all, I hope you’re feeling a little less overwhelmed now with everything that’s been happening, and that you and yours stay safe and healthy! It’s been pretty crazy everywhere, but remember to always give yourself some quiet time - just a break from all the things happening if you can afford to 🖤 And now for my gushing... I love your works so- so- sooooo much!!! Watching your videos have been my calm space for a while now, and what made me go start my own watercolor journey. I hope I’ll have the resources to take your classes on skillshare soon. It’s difficult to find a good quality watercolor sketchbook where I’m from, and for me right now, even the cheaper sketchbooks are still relatively expensive that I always end up hesitant to just play around in them. I’m slowly trying to get over my fear of “wasting” art materials though - like you said, the only way to waste em is when you don’t use em right? :) Also, if you happen to come across this, what advice can you give someone just starting out on how I can be more bold with my colors? I very often end up diluting my colors so much that they’re almost just tinted water, and any value/intensity/contrast I had hoped to add just doesn’t come through. I’ve tried following your videos, and have managed to somewhat get something I liked a lot, but I want to develop the confidence that you’ve got in laying colors down :)
Jackson's has them open stock! I got mine through the kickstarter, so I'm not in any need, but for anyone who does want to buy one, that might be worth a look.
I've taken so so many recommendations via your wonderful videos Arlee, it's improved my work so much aswell, thank you bringing so much calm and tranquility to my life also, I paint to your reviews all the time as you just have such good beautiful vibes! Thank you for making me not only love my watercolours again but in a wierd way myself ❤️❤️
Thank you for making this video. I have been looking for a good sketchbook for watercolors since I just picked up a new set I wanted to play with but have been nervous about wasting my good paper. As always I enjoy your lovely paintings and relaxing voice as you chat away about the products/subject matters. :)
I can totally understand why you feel somewhat overwhelmed with this whole situation - both the pandemic we're still in and maybe the the political situation, too. Weird days we're living in, don't we? Germany (which is my home country and where I'm currently at) is a really safe place, at least when it comes to the medical care system, but still this whole situation left me in really uncomfortable, in - between place, wondering how I'm supposed to get a job after finally finishing my BA's now that everyone is extra cautious (understandably so) when employing new workers 🙄 Well, I know that need to paint or draw when feeling anxious or stressed - I do that, too. And usually I'm being extra focused when I do, so I often really like the results despite the circumstances under which they were made. BTW, I really, really like that painting you did there 🥰
I just ordered these brushes through AliExpress. Can't wait to use them. Takes a long time for delivery, but the prices on AliExpress can't be beat. I bought some Baohong watercolor paper from there (recommended by another youtube artist) and it took about 3 wks. Loved your painting! Thank you!
This is so beautiful 😍 thank you for inspiring me to keep painting and also make art videos! I just passed 200 subs😱 thanks for showing that artists can still be successful in life 💕
Im so in love with their sketchbooks. I recently finished one and it was such a joy to work in ! Your video describes perfectly my view of this sketchbook. Also, LOVE the painting you’ve made in this video !
I have the HP version and love it. I want the CP one once I use up what I have. The HP kinda reminds me of my other favourite sketchbook the Strathmore 500 series mixed media sketchbook. I get very precious with my expensive sketchbooks so when my 9 year old took one of these and started breaking it in for me instead of getting super upset I made the best of it and took it over and let myself experiment more. And then I locked the remaining two up.
Thank you so much! I went on Amazon and found there sketchbooks advertised as mixed media, but it is hot or cold pressed 100% cotton paper, suitable for watercolor. Size a five for $25, sold individually… Totally resonate with your sentiment about sketchbook quality paper holding back the exploration of a concept. So glad I saw this video!
That paint flows so amazingly. Reminds me a lot of the way Qor paints move. What colors did you use here? I’m in love with neutral gray/blues like that. DS Payne’s gray is probably my favorite color haha
white nights is amazing i use it as my study palette for color studies. I have a bit of a white nights addiction, so far be it to call me objective, rofl. but if you're on a budget it wont break the bank and is a good paint to start when wanting artist paint and are not sure what to pick yet.
I am the same way- I find it difficult to art when emotions run high. Loved watching this piece come together. You have me wanting to pull out my watercolor sketchbook and play again! 💗
I love to use the Canson XL mixed media for my general sketchbooks, so now I want to try these! I"m also loving the textures your camera is picking up on the paper.
I've recently turned into a huge fan of gouache! And this week I happened to be testing different kind of papers too, super smooth hot-pressed ones (from LANA) or slightly rough cold-pressed ones (from Arches). They are amazing to layer paint on, however I would also be up to look for slightly cheaper alternatives without sacrificing too much of the quality. Thanks for the recommendation, this looks like one of the possible alternatives! Intrigued to get one of them once I use up my arches block!
I absolutely love these sketchbooks!!! I am currently using their A6 version since I don’t have a ton of time to do big or elaborate paintings. They are the BEST!! Someday I’ll try the next level up but this one is so awesome it’s hard to spend more money. Lol. I love all the sizes too.
Cold press watercolor paper is my favorite type of paper. Thank you for this video. it was really helpful. I think I want this Sketchbook now. I love your eye painting and that guy!😍😆❤💕 I'm so inspired to do some more watercolor paintings today! Today I painted a Pegasus unicorn in space.🦄
I’ve been haunting these books since Teoh Yi Chie mentioned them on his channel. I’ve never been able to justify the cost of three but this has nudged me over into buyer territory. That paper looks lovely.
Did you see Arleesha's posted some likes where you can buy single books via Jackson's? I don't know what the shipping costs are outside the US though. If you buy direct from Etchr, shipping is free.
The paper is Fabriano Artístico which also makes Kilimanjaro. Many art supply chains carry those papers. I save$ and make my own bound ones my largest being 16 x 10 or 16 x 20” open and Arches. But I made 18 with 140lb mix of cp and hp for friends through bookbinding tutorials. I bind them in hard cover and they still cost less than Etchr. And one can wrap Lineco archival hard boards with vinyl or refurbished leather to support a very thick amount of paper neatly stitched while laying flat. I now have a stash of boards and vinyl and lots of my favorite paper to make one anytime. I am not saying this to brag but to be supportive of those who noticed that Etchr ran out of much of their supply. The paper of course is still available. Happy painting into 2021
It is so frustrating purchasing a watercolor sketchbook and starting to paint on it and then realizing the paper isn't accepting the watercolor. A lot of labels call their paper "100% cotton" or "mixed media" but the paper just has no give to watercolor paint. I really needed this video because I want to be able to create art in an actual sketchbook to be able to see my process in a book and not have to take it out of binding. Especially since I want to practice watercolor portraits and not have to waste actual good paper like the Archer paper that is way too expensive to just "experiment" on (I like to that more for finalized work).
It seems to perform so well with the paint and the texture just look amazing. But as you said the price is a real draw back! I'll keep to my homemade watercolor sketchbook but its good to know that such nice sketchbook exist !
sounds weird but I love when my sketchbook paper warps. Like it's annoying when it happens while painting cuz all of the pooling and stuff, but I love when the pages look used when you look at the closed book.
I have the hot press version and it’s amazing! I thought I would be intimidated by the idea of working in a nicer sketchbook, but honestly I feel so chill and free with it! I also have the cold press, and the texture is phenomenal, but I really love the smoothness of the hot press ❤️
I have their larger bag & field case and absolutely love them. I'm looking forward to experiencing their watercolor sketchbooks. They're offering watercolor paints soon, if not already. 😉
I have been wanting to try these. On the other hand...if I buy a 100% coton paper, like Fabriano Artistico...I can make a sketchbook within 5 minutes and without sowing. It is not as sexy as this sketchbook, but it does the job, is inexpensive and makes me lose the fear of using relatively expensive papers...:) As always, love your painting style and frankness. Hope the world will be in a better place soon.
So I became slightly obsessed with the Etchr sketchbooks the white cover books are exquisite. I have no issue with this sketchbook. With this love I decided to get the more premium version with the grey cover and 300gsm paper. The paper is great the binding is atrocious. It fell apart when first attempted to lay flat. I informed Etchr about this and the book was replaced so overall great books and good customer service. I think keeping the manufacturing info of the paper hidden is a little shady but overall it’s a great sketchbook option for watercolor.
It is so coincidental that I just bought an A4 sized watercolour sketchbook from Etchr! I am so excited to try mine when I have the time to do so. Thank you for the review!
I’m sure you’ve been asked this a bunch, but I’d love to see a video about how you harmonise and layer your colours together, it’s so dynamic, esp with gouache. I am absolutely obssessed with how you do it. I’m a new subscriberand I’ve been binge watching your stuff(maybe I’ve not seen enough) and remember you once saying to look at drawings in terms of warm and cool tones, not colours, and I found that extremely helpful! Though I would still love a more in depth video on it if you havent done one already.
You’re right, it is difficult to find a 100% cotton sketchbook that you feel like you can genuinely use as a sketchbook. I found a large roll of bee Watercolor paper and I am going to cut it and make it into different size sketchbooks :-)
I love this sketchbook. I agree, it's smooth enough to sketch and use ink on, but also textured enough for watercolor. The only thing I don't like about it is the white cloth cover. Pet hair is extremely attracted to it, and I find it gets dirty which bothers me. But that's the only downfall for me.
Hi Arlee, it's my first time commenting, but more of a question. At the time 2:17 you were painting an eye. What was the palette you were using to your right? I really need a travel palette and I like the deeper mixing wells on the one you have. If you can, please tell me who made it some details, and I can look for it??
I use the same sketchbook and have a "Perfect Sketchbook" ready to go on the shelf. Sketchr labs makes very decent products. However, if you are in Europe, check out Koval sketchbooks as they offer books made from well known paper brands in a variety of configurations.
the struggle between wanting a no pressure sketch book to experiment in with the frustration of trying to paint on cheap paper is real -_- i’m on the hunt for a sketchbook for plein air painting so I might try this one out!
i haven't gotten to test mine yet but i was bummed out a little by the packaging .. being forced to buy three on their website and then getting each one wrapped in plastic three times!! with a paper wrapping sandwiched inbetween is A LOT :o
I was just wondering if this sketchbook is ideal for all medias? I know it’s a watercolor journal but how does is it deal with other media? Both dry and wet? I’ve just been eyeing on this sketchbook for so long because of how well it handles watercolor (which I’ll be using mostly) but I’m not sure if it’ll be comfortable just sketching with graphite because I was planning to use all media on this sketchbook to do a bunch of studies/observational work as well with markers, acrylic, etc.
Though you can get cheaper watercolour sketchbooks, I've struggled to find anything cheaper than Etchr books in 100% cotton. Plus I'm inhibited when I only have a single sketchbook with nice paper - I find I'm unable to risk messing it up; while being 'forced' to buy a pack of three means I am less hesitant to get stuck in and use the damn things. 😂 Long story short, I really love the 230gsm ones, and though I have got a pack of the 300gsm, I'm not really seeing much difference in how the paper behaves. Caveat - I'm no expert and new to watercolour!
I was really interested in this sketchbook but the really low gsm and the only available in packs of 3 really turned me off :/ but lovely artwork as always arlee :)
Hi Arlee, would you know if masking tape will work on the pages without tearing when removing? I'm about 90% sure I want to buy a set as I too would just like to practise with ease 👍🏻 Fantastic video as always, much love to you ❤
I do enjoy your videos and I am a paper NUT I do not like recommending papers as it backfires on me more than I care to deal with! BUT I have found Two Rivers Paper company tworiverspaper.com to be a fantastic place to get paper in sheets and in sketchbooks and hand-bound watercolor journals I believe the prices to be quite good and you might give them a try and tell the rest of your viewers what you think and if they are worth their dime! I find I use them more than even Arches these days and that is no mean feat as I have been a Arches fan/devote since college! 30+ years if you are counting . . . They do have a video on paper making on their website if you care to watch something like that.
I’ve been really interested in these sketchbooks for a while now. But being forced to buy them in packs of 3 really bothers me. I just don’t understand why they don’t sell them individually!
Thanks to everyone who has let me know where these can be found and purchased individually!! I've left some links in the description. I really appreciate the help. :D
i wish i had known that before! just got three yesterday :'D
Do you mind if I asked how did you make your website?
They are great sketchbooks.
Where are the links?
Your art is so pretty! I've always wanted to try the Etchr sketchbooks, they seem so nice. ^u^
Putting the sad down on the paper you like gave us a wonderful idea, and a terrific image.
Hope you felt better afterwards.
I’ve been hearing so much about these sketchbooks.. Really have to try one for myself :) thanks for the review~~
So far I love mine.
For what it's worth, Jackson's sells etchr in single sets! I'm not sure what their international shipping is though, so that would be something to bear in mind, but you can get them in singles.
It's pretty affordable, (at least within Europe) so it's definitely worth checking.
Are you using the hot press for watercolour or gouache?
miss Isboredofthis Exactly, I previously used Bockingford paper for example because the quality was fantastic but these in my opinion blow them out of the water.
Blue Wren I’ve been using them for watercolour, been thinking of getting gouache though to try.
i was wondering if you can treat this watercolor sketchbook as a mix media sketchbook? The only way one should describe her art style is "intelectual" and I live by that
Rashone Fair point, but I think that the op was using hyperbole. No need to criticize them.
If you think there is a right and wrong way to say or do anything when it comes to art then you dont know shit about art
@@isaniart I was 😭❤️

Love how you and this brush work together. The sketchbook worked well, but what I liked best was your mark making. Lovely.
etchr lab are my absolute favourite sketch books
Your voice is actually relaxing and calming...
I am in love with the moth portrait!

Arleesha I just love this design! The left side of the moth looks like a lion’s face in profile. Just adds to the vibe you were expressing. Thank you!

I absolutely love the sketch at 1:49 Arlee! Got a small doodle book today so I had to copy your drawing in there. Thanks so much for sharing it.

Thanks for the video! It's great!
you guys in the comments are so sweet. keep it up and happy painting. :)
Ohh my god I love your style so much
Cheap Joe’s sells these individually, I’m definitely picking one up in my next order!
I love your brushes. Have checked the link out so I may have to buy a set :)
I have the same size that you have. I ordered it from Walmart online a couple weeks ago. I love it!
It is so coincidental that I just bought an A4 sized watercolour sketchbook from Etchr! I am so excited to try mine when I have the time to do so. Thank you for the review!
Hi can you do wet on wet?
That paper looks really good! Thank you for the review:)
Great video, glad you're feeling better. Stay safe 👍
loved this video (who is disliking this video and why??! ) looks like an awesome sketchbook, gonna give it a try!
What a beautiful, mysterious man.
arleebean, you are fantastic!
Have you tried the Strathmore 100% Cotton Mixed Media sketchbooks?? They are my favorite for watercolor and are so affordable on Amazon.
Can you draw in pen/fine liner on these ?
I think there’s a smooth option when it comes to paper type
I love how you put down thumbnails and idea, finally an artist that can actually thinks about their work
Hi Arlee! I would like to ask what watercolor brushes you use. Also, are Arteza watercolor papers good?
Arteza’a 100% cotton Premium paper is what she uses, I believe. I have some, and it’s wonderful.
I've been wanting to try one of these for awhile but have too many sketchbooks to finish before I get anymore lol
Long story short, I really love the 230gsm ones, and though I have got a pack of the 300gsm, I'm not really seeing much difference in how the paper behaves. Caveat - I'm no expert and new to watercolour!
It looks amazing and I've heard such great things about it! Have you tried Bee Paper? It is amazing!
I was really interested in this sketchbook but the really low gsm and the only available in packs of 3 really turned me off :/ but lovely artwork as always arlee :)
Hi Arlee, would you know if masking tape will work on the pages without tearing when removing? I'm about 90% sure I want to buy a set as I too would just like to practise with ease 👍🏻 Fantastic video as always, much love to you ❤
It works ))
I have one of these and I've only used one page so far. I'm so afraid to use it because it's my "good" sketchbook with the best paper!
hey i’m a fan of your channel. i have a question i mean no offense but how come you rarely paint people of color/darker flesh tones?
Aussie brand! wew! looooove it. fyi i am australian :D
Can you please link the brush or a couple good all-around brushes that aren't too expensive please?
Have you tried the Rendr sketchbooks? If so how is it compared to this one? Hope you have a fantastic day!! ❤️❤️
I'm too early to have a good comment.
💕💕💕
Cool we have the same 🎂 my birthday is September 1st I'm 31! 🆒 💘 your videos on
I'm looking in their site, they all seem to be mixed media. Am I missing something?
Can you do wet on wet?
I'm not sure if it's just for me but I can't turn notifications on? I've heard it's a glitch but does anyone know how to fix it? :/
I’ve been really interested in these sketchbooks for a while now. But being forced to buy them in packs of 3 really bothers me. I just don’t understand why they don’t sell them individually!
Some kind people have been letting me know you CAN get them individually! I left a few links in the description. :]
