QUESTION: If you're currently managing an artist, what made you choose to work with them? If you're not currently managing anyone, what are you looking for in a future project?

I started managing as a joke with my best friend because I wanted to go to his shows and get backstage for free. Ended up tour managing with some of my closest friends after that and had an amazing time and learned a lot. Fast forward 6 years I’m a partner in a small management agency with my close friend with 14 artists, and started my own event production company and record label too

I actually went to school for music business and kind of honed in on wanting to be an artist manager after a year of being an artist manager's assistant. And then an artist I knew in college randomly asked me to be his manager, so I'm learning as I go!

Hi! I actually fell into the position of becoming an artist manager. I am an American living in Belgium, and I am tutoring English. I am currently managing 3 artist (country singer, r&b singer and beat producer) all from Belgium. I absolutely love it. I have two degrees in Management and I think I have found my calling accidentally. These videos are very interesting and I need all the help I can get.

I used to be an artist / producer and later a trained studio engineer for a number of years. One of my old friends asked me to be his hypeman to get people into his music, but knowing that he actually needs a businessman at this point in his career i offered to be his manager instead. Now, unfortunately i knew this arrangment was a dead end from the start, but the idea of being a manager piqued my interest so i approached another old rap friend.. and he bought in! So I'm here reading books and watching your videos for my studies.

I have always wanted to become an Artist Manager, but obviously having no experience makes it very hard. I am in the festival production industry and I am slowly falling into a management position for one of my friends that is graduating Music school. That being said I am also seeking other talent to potentially manage. My focus now is learning the ins/outs of the business side of it. Figuring out how contracts work, how much to charge, how to contact or approach promoters for venues and festivals to potentially get the artists booked.
Well, there is a lot of knowing the right people as well. Whether artist or manager or agent. Some of you out there (including this writer and vlogger) have the artist aspiration. Or want to manage one. You have been told by the very few who made it to believe in yourself and never give up. Well the simply fact is the arts are very different than any other profession. Because usually--someone else has to let you in. Now what I would tell you if you are 18 or 40 and feel that your destiny is in the arts? I would not tell you to just stay the "safe route" and give up on your dreams. I would tell you to pursue the artist aspiration smartly. Get another trade that you at least like. So the agents of industry never have you by the throat. You have to go to work anyway so you might as well have the job that pays well. I never went through the starving artist phase. I went through a starving student phase. So when I finally did pursue the artist endeavor I did it with a job I also like that contracts for 100K a year and four month vacations in Europe. That's how you go through being a starving artist. You don't starve at all. Hope this helps someone---Charles
I agree on many things, but the most important thing is that in the world of management, connections are very important since they are what help us to move in this industry, it should be noted that we must also have a talented artist since that will make it easier for us to I work to move it forward. I also believe that the better we educate ourselves academically, the easier it will be to get ahead. You don't need a degree, but we do have to prepare ourselves and learn about this business to develop more easily and that everything goes well.
I've supported many artists for years along the way while still achieving my goals. I might as well try to manage one successful artist whose ready for the grind . I have my LLC now and the funds just need to find new sounds

Couple years late to see this video, I’ve been interested in being apart of the music industry for a couple years, actually made a couple songs myself but I didn’t feel right about making music. But I definitely know I want to be apart of that music lifestyle and a couple of my friends make music and they have the looks, the clothes, the cars. So I’ve been trying to push them to make music so I actually don’t know if I purposely became one or accidentally but I definitely am trying to learn the game. This video is the first one I came across and I actually learned a lot, thank you for that and it would mean a lot if you can get back to me!
I'm wondering what higher degree would help me to land my dream job. I am torn between Marketing and Public Relations because I was told Marketing would prepare me better for Managing job but I have a feeling i would get much more from PR.
Either are great choices! Marketing can be very applicable in TONS of situations you will find yourself in within the music industry and even industries outside of music/entertainment. Marketing plays a key role in developing the overall strategy to when it comes to planning tours, single, EPs/album, Music videos etc.
imma manager because I do errthang myself already meaning imma producer/rapper/audio engineer/manager even got my own record label in my name don’t nobody ik work as hard as me so why not manage myself
I think that a manager can be successful being independent or through a company, the important thing is to have contacts and learning from experience, taking risks.
Actively seeking to manage a friend's career. She's an amazing talent. as n old timer, I feel like I can supply wisdom, creative ideas, and conduct business in a way that keeps her fresh, enthusiastic and (most of all) paid and not taken advantage of. I'm also involved in a network of independent musical performers and artists, seasoned and amateur who are all at various levels on our local scene. Most of them respect me and enjoy my company and consider me to be a type of mentor. I'm beginning to realize that they are almost all unmanaged and could benefit from having someone invest their time into helping their careers, whether it's marketing, time management, encouragement or even bookkeeping and goal setting, I've operated a specialty contracting business and can't help but wonder if what I've learned winning "gigs" in my world would be similar to the same in helping these amazing talented people in theirs?
Nice video the music industry is always changeing there is.no formula just jump into the fire just do it I mange major artist I have as a manger is not what you know is who you know. Artist you better be great if you want to make it in the music industry
i’d have no knowledge about Business Manager, but I do know of a person who was a manager for an artist. Her name is Natalie Harris, and she was over the management for a gospel choir called the Los Angeles Gospel messengers, in which started on October 2, 1982 founded by the late reverend James Cleveland. And she had been the messengers manager for 40+ years.

I find it interesting that someone can become an artist manager without prior knowledge in the music business; however, I believe that knowledge in this field is essential as it can help us face difficult situations, prevent scams, and, on the other hand, enhance our understanding of how to navigate the music industry.
Hi, i do really think that as an independent artist we always try to do everything by our own, and manage all the process is kind of hard so i encourage everyone who want to be a manager, its a cool allience! it won't be ez but it is worth it
A very interesting video, seen from many angles in the world of management, how an independent manager works versus one linked to a company, how not to get overwhelmed with work when representing an artist in any field, and the difficulties that arise in this industry, whether it's seeking employment, finding an artist, or building contacts. Thank you for sharing your knowledge 😀😀
I want to become a artist manager ever since I did boh and foh in HS and I loved it. Currently I'm finishing up college as a BA in the Music Industry. So that means I have no experience whatsoever so I want to get into this type of business, to manage artists.
I started as a DJ and producer, I've been learning about the huge business world in the music industry and currently I'm trying to recognize the roles besides artist. I'm not interested in becoming a manager, but I want to know about the job when I eventually have a personal manager for me as an artist.
I am a DJ with more than 10 years in the private industry and more than 5 in live venues. I just started learning and getting in to production this last year and just started my own management company. I unofficially represent a couple artist/producers including myself, I am just getting in to artist management and find these videos helpful. Would love to network!
Hey Andre how is your Management journey? I am an artist would love to do a informational interview. Just to ask some questions about what its like being a manager and also the artist but from a managers perspective
I manage a lot of artist in my city even a model but we not getting paid because I don't know much they just all believe me and I've supported them for years now I need help
I accidentally became a manager. The music industry in my city is tiny. I began getting a lot of views on my videos. And my first client reached out. I told him the marketing i do he can do himself. After he researched he asked if i would run his campaigns. And the rest evolved from this point
I am trying to become a music manager. I work as a personal assistant to a music producer/dj and have ambitions to manage my own artist(s) in the future.
I have no experience in the field at all. I love music and have always been surrounded by it. I have been asked by 3 artist if I would be interested in managing them. So Its accidentally but it's a path I'm still choosing

I love this video it is so informative. I'm an artist with over 12 million streams on Spotify, I have a verified IG and Facebook page (I didn't pay for my verification, I received it in 2021). I've made a decent amount of money from streams and production cuts, so I think I'm doing a few things right. I also have been featured on several Spotify editorial pages. I'm slowly growing my RUclips channel, but I've received a lot of love on it as well and put in the work and money to create some music videos. I've been an artist for over 5 years, and I still can't seem to find a manager who knows the business side of things, to help me level up. I would love to link up with a manager here who wants to take a leap with me and level things up. I'm based in LA.
Good for you, Hard work does pay off one day. I think you should try to connect with the lady in this video in person. If not her she might know someone ready for u. Good luck. I am on my way to learning as I have an artist to manage, reason why am here. I took an event and venue management program but I want to learn more about how to manage an artist. What type of music into?
The issue is, if you find someone you think is talented, they usually have a ego and only want a manager that they have heard of. They think having a YT channel or social media accts is like having a manager. Then you have to deal with someone who doesn't want to do the hard work it takes to make it.
I am finishing my final year of my bachelor program and I am actively seeking clients to manage, I am still learning so I am being very patient and paying as much attention to detail as possible. I am also seeking a paying position within the entertainment sector, preferably an established record label, management company or radio station. Any advice or assistance would be greatly appreciated

I'm involved in music and I manage a rapper in Here In Paris, he's 19 and his real name is vishane king aka vbreezy but he has made more music then anyone has ever made in paris and he's wanting to stay an independent label and wants to make a difference if we start making money off are music

My friend is an artist and I love his music so I was like hay why not and then I started to have a interest for it
I agree on many things, but the most important thing is that in the world of management, connections are very important since they are what help us to move in this industry, it should be noted that we must also have a talented artist since that will make it easier for us to I work to move it forward. I also believe that the better we educate ourselves academically, the easier it will be to get ahead. You don't need a degree, but we do have to prepare ourselves and learn about this business to develop more easily and that everything goes well.
I purposely set out to be an artist manager, but I kind of accidently fell into it a little earlier that expected.
I've supported many artists for years along the way while still achieving my goals. I might as well try to manage one successful artist whose ready for the grind . I have my LLC now and the funds just need to find new sounds
I would love to work with you. I think my music describes this phase that I am in very well but not in a cheap way. it's more organic.
in my opinion, I have a lot to improve but I think my songwriting ability is very good.
I think my sound and style will be influential.
I am still working and searching for my sound and because of that I have lots of different style tracks but I hope you will like it.
Looking into becoming a manager for a good friend I know he’ll be a big artist 1 day
I'm wondering what higher degree would help me to land my dream job.
I’m starting out being an artist manager. I need more insights on this.
I fell into this role and learning as I go along. Lol I have 2 clients now and more asking, but I need to learn more.
imma manager because I do errthang myself already meaning imma producer/rapper/audio engineer/manager even got my own record label in my name don’t nobody ik work as hard as me so why not manage myself
I am indirectly managing an upcoming artist. Just me working with friends to deliver good numbers on his streams. It’s fun
In school at Full Sail in the Music Business program actively trying to become a manager.

I’m trying to learn MusicMGMT. I manage my own band and helping out some friends
That’s how I fell into it
Right on Gabriel!
I find it interesting that someone can become an artist manager without prior knowledge in the music business; however, I believe that knowledge in this field is essential as it can help us face difficult situations, prevent scams, and, on the other hand, enhance our understanding of how to navigate the music industry.
Hi, i do really think that as an independent artist we always try to do everything by our own, and manage all the process is kind of hard so i encourage everyone who want to be a manager, its a cool allience! it won't be ez but it is worth it
I have a ton of friend who are artist and frequently ask for my help, so I guess I just fell into the position and I am pretty good at it
i started with going to fullsails, then creating my company Primary Entertainment and booking inc on facebook with one artist i manage atm.
I am a manger and u definitely have to network!!
guidance on how to put your artist on shows and bigger platforms
A very interesting video, seen from many angles in the world of management, how an independent manager works versus one linked to a company, how not to get overwhelmed with work when representing an artist in any field, and the difficulties that arise in this industry, whether it's seeking employment, finding an artist, or building contacts. Thank you for sharing your knowledge
😀😀
i am purposely willing to become my own manager due to the fact that i feel comfortable being more in control of my musice career as an artist
I want to become a artist manager ever since I did boh and foh in HS and I loved it. Currently I'm finishing up college as a BA in the Music Industry. So that means I have no experience whatsoever so I want to get into this type of business, to manage artists.
lets go. get my band on some tours and festivals. we travel worldwide. I am ready to pursue mgmt or do it myself
Have an amazing artist from East Africa 🌍 he is inspired me to do this!
Just accepted the role of Managing a Gospel Artist .
I started as a DJ and producer, I've been learning about the huge business world in the music industry and currently I'm trying to recognize the roles besides artist. I'm not interested in becoming a manager, but I want to know about the job when I eventually have a personal manager for me as an artist.

I accidentally became a manager. The music industry in my city is tiny. I began getting a lot of views on my videos. And my first client reached out. I told him the marketing i do he can do himself. After he researched he asked if i would run his campaigns. And the rest evolved from this point
Accidentally became one

I became an artist manager like a joke and I’m here checking for info

I landed here managing my best friend by force
I make urban RNB music!
The issue is, if you find someone you think is talented, they usually have a ego and only want a manager that they have heard of. They think having a YT channel or social media accts is like having a manager. Then you have to deal with someone who doesn't want to do the hard work it takes to make it.
I have 2 good close friends who are good Rappers and both wants me to manage them and I have no idea how to even start.....
I would love to work with you. I think my music describes this phase that I am in very well but not in a cheap way. it's more organic.

I love the way she put this🙌
Thank you!
