Very nice setup one most of us dream of. The tool organization is the best part of all it to me. If I could just have those foam inserts for the tools I'd be golden. Glad to see you doing great with all of this.
Matt, you might like to try pouring silicone (mold making) in your drawers for other tools. Pour a thin layer for cushion let it dry, then place tools and pour a second layer. Any tools that have nooks and crannies wrap in cling wrap first.
A suggestion for your keys to know which goes to which cabinet take a number punch and just number the keys 1, 2, etc. Don't need to number the cabinet just go left to right 1, 2 etc. The top ones could be 1A, 2A etc. You could also engrave them but punches do a nice job and are consistent in size. I have used this system and I found it easy and practical. Another thing I did was put the SAE tools on one side and the metric ones on the other. That way when I was working on an import I would go left, domestic go right. Hopefully this makes some sense. Enjoyed the video and looking forward to seeing many more. Cheers!
I feel like this is the high-end curation that Griots garage tried to do with their tools and Lista cabinets. I don't think that their catalog was as effective at reaching the target demographic as your youtube videos are. Holy cow am I jealous of that setup.
@Matt. Look into LIFX bulbs. I have tried to Phillips Hues and feel the LIFX is a better product in both light output and color if you went that route. they also have light bars that would fit nicely under the upper cabinets.
need some strip lights in the cabinets, maybe some USB LED strips in the back of the shelves, otherwise looks awesome mate. *edit* should have watched to the end of the video ?:)
Hey Matt, When you said I don't want to use the tools I just want to look at them, I laughed and thought I want to try every one of them...I would have taken apart everything I own trying them out... I really like the way it all came together, the way the upper cabinets attached to the heavy posts is so much easier than having to hang them on a wall... You need to show Adam LZ the setup for his new shop space...best, Kent, Texasroper
Really nice setup. Obviously the tools with the inserts are awesome, but I really like the "trash can" cabinet next to the tall closet. It's perfect for keeping your dirty and clean towels organized. I know you've mentioned it, but I'd probably remove the Sonic logos on the front if possible to give it an even cleaner look.
It is fascinating how some people can put together such big items without ruining a healthy amount of parts. I would have to re-order 20% of the parts I got my fingers on..haha
Thanks for the vid. Is there any difference or pro's from ordering through the obsessed garage shop for sonic products rather then just ordering directly from sonic themselves? Sonic actually does provide special sales on there site from time to time and also has clearance sales on tools sets as well.
My hope is aiding people in designing their array either personally or through video will improve my chances of having them buy from me. I will be offering whatever promotion they are offering in the future.
Damn $9,000 worth of tools damn thats my paycheck every 2 weeks, But its worth it for the amount of tools you get. When the cabinets coming to Obsessed Garage website?
The other thing I think sonic is lacking is accessories for their slot-pegboard system. All they have are hooks on their website. If there were some nice stainless shallow shelves, I would be buying them. Why have the pegboard if you can't really utilize it except for hooks? I have sonic cabinets in my shop and so far this is one of the most underutilized areas of my cabinet setup. I'm not looking to make it feel cluttered but there are some things that would be great to be left on a small shelf to get to easily.
I only ask because I'm thinking about buying the set-up but I don't want the logo's on every cabinet. So if there is a way we can tell the manufacture to offer an option without the logo lettering that would be great. Thanks.
Matt you get any discounts on these cabinets?? After this canadian winter I’m going to purchase these for my garage, wonder if they come in red to match my 2 vipers ahaha
Hmm you talked about blue foam inserts, and i wonder if you guys in usa have unior tools, if you have did you ever tried them? I know in europe if you want best tools you get unior.
I'm sure you've thought about this already but, washer and dryer at OGHQ? Maybe a compact stacked unit in a corner somewhere. Are you just carting all the dirty MF home to wash them right now?
@@ObsessedGarage Ah, I thought you had the cabinets as well. How about a review of the Lista products you do have? The packing station is essentially a work bench, correct?
I have a custom packing station with an NW drawered cabinet, 52" shelf, and 8' packing table. They make some amazing stuff, but I ended up with a bucket of bolts left over, 18 hours of assembly, basically no instructions, and I'm still waiting on a few parts for them. This could be a fluke, but the combination of pain I went through in the order/design process and amount of mechanical skill that would be needed to assemble, I decided I wouldn't be able to create a viable product line for people outside of one-off custom orders. So I took the flyer on Sonic.
@@ObsessedGarage Mm. That is very understandable. If I may ask, I understand why you went with Sonic Cabinets....but why Sonic tools? Why not a similar priced USA made tool line like SK? They also sell tool sets prepackaged in foam. Just an idea for you since some prefer buying made in usa tools for the ease of warranty and high quality. Also, thanks again for the great deal on the microfibre towels in bulk you had on instagram. I love the stuff! Next up will be the lighting solution...

Matt, I believe this is the first time you have deviated from your OCD QUEST for the BEST! In the past you NEVER let price stand in your way to seek out the creme de la creme and while the Sonic cabinets look neat and clean they are IMHO not up to YOUR NORMAL OG standards. Not only do the draws wobble quite a bit, but they are shallow and should have included at least one 72" wide cabinet IMHO. There are some tools and equipment that will just not fit in the array you have. I can not comment on the tools themselves as I can't really tell from the brief video pictures. When you sell plastic buckets for $300+ bucks one would have thought a shops main fixture (tool cabinets and work bench) would have been a bit higher grade. For others the Sonic brand may be fine, for for the REAL OCD Guys, there are better I believe. Yes, Snap-on tools are crazy money (I own plenty) but I'm curious if you've tried to reach a deal with them for distribution.
You are missing my MO. I am pursuing functionally excellent, not perfection or expensive. I'm looking for products that check the boxes that I've made up in my head. A lot of times we need to make sacrifices to get something that works and is also available. For example, look at the piping package for the custom install solution. There are better ways to do it, but I needed to source things that fit and are available without having to manufacture from scratch. These cabinets are a really, really nice balance of price vs. performance. They have a 60" wide drawer cabinet if needed and their tools are plenty excellent enough. I'm sure you have opened or used the hyper expensive for what you get Snap-on Box. They are not good at all. They have this really odd locking mechanism and then have the sloppiest drawers on the market and cost 2-10 times more than others. Their drawer organization is also really bad. I never even considered chasing them.
“I don’t wanna use any of these... I just want to look at em”. Lmao. So honest. I feel you man... it’s a curse

Absolutely and without doubt this is just exactly why we all watch your channel. Obsessed yes but it’s the passion .
Love from the uk 🇬🇧
put your Porsche in there on the lift and get a photo with the cabinets in the background, will look awesome.

Looks really awesome Matt !
They are legit!
I look into your future, when you’re moving HQ to a larger building.....and you’ve gotta take all of this stuff apart.....the price of success....
Bad ass set up Matt. When it's all put together I'd like to see a wide angle photo of the entire garage that would be cool.
What dreams are made as far as Garages go and tools, very nice and clean install ! glad it was exactly as you expected
those cabinets look so good. I love the drawer inserts.

Wow, obsessed tools, prepared for anything bolts and nuts
they look amazing. Congrats and enjoy them
sickkkkkkkkk......my new shop toolbox/cabinet goals.... thanks Matt

I hope you bought a full set of ratcheting wrenches, those are god's gift for mechanics.

Funny, Adam already sent me a text wanting them for his new shop.
Adam has been to my house to see my setup. Unfortunately it was just a little too late, as he and Matt had already installed the Saber cabinets.

I think the gap is for humidity expansion of the wood, same as flooring I would assume.
Move the shipping and fulfillment somewhere else, that garage is perfect for what you need detailing wise

We are going to be working on it all week, but I can custom design an order right now.
Good luck when you move to a bigger facility!
Yeah...that's not going to be easy.
Can’t you get accessories like lights, plug ins, air and other stuff for the cabinets?
Matt, we can absolutely key each cabinet the same.
Wow looks so Nice made
Matt, do you think you could just buy the MSS+ lighting system and rig it to fit your cabinets instead of using Phillips Hue?
It's possible. I was just looking at that one.
Pretty tools man, Pretty tools. :)
You could make panels to cover the peg holes
I’m curious what is the total cost of everything there
It’s bad ass
About $27,000 with tools.
The other thing I think sonic is lacking is accessories for their slot-pegboard system. All they have are hooks on their website. Take the sheets each drawer comes with, and keep it under the tools.
Are you still going to carry/sell Saber?
I bet you cant wait to tell your dad to take his Craftsmen tool box home!
Ha, ha... It's waiting by the door.
Believe it or not all aircraft European manufactured or American are standardized with SAE hardware.
Cheers for his business, but this is CRAZY ! haha, be around for more crazy :)
This week Matt gets "hella flush" with his tool drawers.
Boom!
Awesome
Sweet!
Nardo Grey cabinets... now you have to buy a Lambo to make a composé.
Its only... logic. :P
What made you choose not to do the integrated power / air / usb strips that attach to the back to the counter / bottom of the pegboard?
That countertop is only offered through the Master Work Station. I wanted a custom array, so it wouldn't work.
Strange decision for them not to offer it a la carte
Theres two types of countries, those who use the metric system and those who have been to the moon.

VERY nice Matt, no under top cabinet lighting ?
Not yet. I may do something, but I don't really need it.
Where can we get the same setup you have here? With the tools and cabinets?
I can design and order it for you. www.obsessedgarage.com/collections/sonic-cabinets
Really like the upper cabinets. But damn, they are expensive just from my view of their website.
Depends on your definition of expensive. These are a little less than half the cost of higher end cabinets.
Make a video on washing 2 cars at the same day. Side by side
Do the Sonic logo's come off? Are they stickers or paint?
It is raised lettering, so no. I'm working on a solution.
I only ask because I'm thinking about buying the set-up but I don't want the logo's on every cabinet. So if there is a way we can tell the manufacture to offer an option without the logo lettering that would be great. Thanks.
At this point we will just have to source extra drawers, but if the array is big enough, I'm sure we can convince them!
