Good onya skippy, another trick I have used is to roll your pipe out, outside the trench, fill with water and cap the ends then the pipe will sit in the bottom of the trench easily.
As long as you can dig, I can't see why not. Burying water pipes is the smarter way in my opinion. Water stays cooler and protects the pipe from damage and fire. That's why I buried ours.
