Everything looks great. That is a lot of labor and I really appreciate taking your time to get it to completion. I'm finding I can't get done in a day near what I used to but coming to grips with it is what really counts.
Love it. All these “not enough” and miscalculations would never happen to Martha Stewart but these things do happen to real people. You’re very relatable. My kind of gardener. Thanks for not editing out the reality.
Jenny, this looks amazing! You got a beautiful curve on the edge as it narrows down the side of the house. GOOD JOB👍🏻 That’s a lot of heavy work. Im glad you had Dave to help you. I’m starting a similar project tomorrow. It’s just me, and I’m not as young & strong as I once was. 18’ X 8’, joining up 2 existing raised beds & 3 evergreens. The trees are getting bigger & harder to mow around. Between 10 & 15 feet tall. I planted them at about 18” tall some 7#8 years ago. So I’ve got my cardboard, grass clippings, leaves & some compost at the ready. I’m signing up for chip drop for free wood chips. I’ve got some metal edging to install the 18 foot space between the 2 raised beds. Im dreading how much heavy work this will be, but you were an inspiration to me tonight. 🇨🇦🌺🪻🌲🌲🌲🌹🏵️
I loooove seeing new projects like this 😊 A lot of work, but it's really worth it! Did my border end 2022, still very happy with it, it's decomposing slowly but surely, hoping to have healthy soil in the next years. Good job you two!
The prep work is always the tedious part but makes the end result so much better! You’re basically doing the back to Eden method which is perfect for trees and shrubs! Looking forward to seeing what you add to the space :)
This is going to be lovely!! By any chance do you have a Patreon or other way your followers can maybe sponsor a plant for this project? I didn’t see anything on your channel page. I would love to contribute and it would be fun to see it all come together-I’m sure others would too! You have a great channel-so refreshing! 🌷
Dang girl ... that was a lotta work - well done !!! I wonder - do you know how long the Ram Board takes to break down. I have several beds that are overgrown with grass & weeds, but also have daffodils in among the "unwanteds". After the daffies are done (gone yellow), I would love to cover the area and mulch it but don't want to inhibit the daffs ... Any suggestions (other than getting in there and weeding them out) ???
That's a huge space! Those rolls sure do make quick work of laying down cardboard. I use wood chips on top of cardboard as well, but I usually wait a few months or even until next season to actually plant up the bed as otherwise, I find that the grass starts creeping into the spots where I put the plants & it's a right pain to weed out. Can't wait to see the progress as you plant up this bed!
Your yard looks really good!!! I love that your lawn area is the same on both sides of the walkway!!! I can’t wait to see the new woodland garden bed!!!
I really enjoyed your video, Jenny. That was a lot of work, and it is going to be a great space. I look forward to seeing how you will develop it over the years. 😊
This is a big project, but you’re getting it done! In the South, our Bermuda grass would look at that edging border and say “watch this” & just jump the border! ❤
Hi Jenny 🌺. You did a wonderful work . This new yard looks amazing with the mulch and I can't wait to see how you will arrange the plants in it . Have a fantastic day . 🌺🌻🌺
You look better than I do when I'm working in the yard, haha. I say garden friends are the best. You don't have to put on makeup and jewelry for them. Your doing a fantastic job 👏 😊
It's looking great! I feel your pain...literally 😁. We just (sort of) finished our spring mulching recently. I'm trying to propagate groundcovers ASAP each year so there will be less mulching the following year. Thank you for sharing your beautiful gardens with us.
Hi , I am also in the process of doing a border , a mixed border like yours. Thank you so much for sharing this video and taking us along. Mines about 35’ full sun w 6+ hours but it’s right next to our driveway. I started w a Jane Magnolia and a little Miss Kim lilac. I have a witch hazel in there which is native. I’m in southwestern PA zone 6a. I’m looking forward to following along.
Great job Jenny. I was confused at first why yo made a straight line, but glad later you amended that. So much work. I also am tremendously thankful that you mentioned ram board. I'm about to start this kind of project and bought " contractor paper". No place could I find out what contractor paper was. I bought that from Amazon but haven't used it yet. Now buying ram board which I've read is 5x stronger than contractors paper. So thanks so much for my this info.
I do love me some symmetry. You put in the hard work and it looks great. I was making notes to insert comments for things I would've suggested 😂 but you covered everything! Right down to the v-notch in the grass and having a sharp blade. I plan on using Ram board for my lawn conversion. As much as I love shopping, there's no way I'd have enough cardboard. My only note would be to perhaps wait to plant in the area that's just chips without compost or leaf litter. That'll allow more time for the chips to break down. But there's a bunch of different ways to do it and they all work.
Fabulous project. Are you planning to add some medium size native flowering trees like redbuds or viburnums for dappled shade? Even when plants are labeled ‘full sun’ that doesn’t always mean full afternoon sun in the southern summer.
wow!!! what a great idea...looks so nice 🤩 Like the idea of the Ram Board 😁 I just had my half moon edger out earlier, not the easiest job, but looks so nice when it's done What was that plant that was flowering white behind you where you wanted to put a fairy garden ? 🤔
Looks great! I have usually dug the edging of the borders before doing all the mulch work, but I suppose it doesn't matter. What a great space to plant! Keep cool!
This is going to look great. I used this method for all my garden beds. Just a tip for next time, I cut my edge first then put down and folded it over the edge, that way the grass is covered and can't grow around the cardboard. I also found it better to add a layer of soil first and then mulch. Happy planning for your garden.
Looks great! Such hard work! I’ve made a few no dig beds in a similar way. I never would have been able to do it without my electric wheel barrow to remove sod, add mulch, etc. It is my most used garden tool!
Gosh, Jenny, you and Dave made some major progress! It already looks so nice. I love how you decide on a plan, and then you attack it get it done! Kudos to Dave for helping you so much. You've taught me so much, and I thank you so much. Very exciting to see how this gorgeous it's going to be! Linda
Thank you for showing us how to do this with cardboard. I was wondering how long before you can start planting in this area? How long does it take the cardboard to decompose? Thank you.
Great job -- glad you showed how you do the edging, I never understood how that worked. Do you just move along the edge? How often do you have to do the edging?
Nice work, that was quite the task! I love your idea of a woodland garden with ferns! Id like to recommend that you check out Jes' "gully garden" i feel like her style would suit your little woods so perfectly!! She lives in western MI near Grand Rapids, i can't remember her exact growing zone.
Jenny it’s a lot of hard work but it’s an amazing transformation and thank you for sharing each step…I can see all the plants in your stash being used!
Everything looks great. That is a lot of labor and I really appreciate taking your time to get it to completion. I'm finding I can't get done in a day near what I used to but coming to grips with it is what really counts.
Thank you Dave for helping Jenny. 💐💚🙃

Love Jim Putnam!!! Janey from Dig, Plant, Water Repeat also used chip drop and her soil is fantastic now. :). Love your new project.

Oh my gosh Jenny this will be a wonderful new area in your front yard !!!
Oh how I hate digging up sod. Great work!
Maybe the gorilla cart people will send you a cart , rather than lugging a pail!
I have a gorilla cart but my husband was using it for a different job at the time.

That’s a kind thought. No I don’t have anything but maybe I’ll look into it.

Yes-let us live vicariously through your garden 👩🏼🌾
“That’s the way I roll “. Me too, it works!
This was a tremendous job, Jenny. It looks good even without the new plants in place. I’m looking forward to seeing your new plans for the space

Can’t wait to see what type of plants you put in!
I really enjoyed your video, Jenny. That was a lot of work, and it is going to be a great space. I look forward to seeing how you will develop it over the years. 😊
It’s looking fabulous, what an exciting new project 🌼🐝
Looks good! Your garden space is becoming huge. Mine is half the size of yours and I struggle to keep up.
This is a big project, but you’re getting it done! In the South, our Bermuda grass would look at that edging border and say “watch this” & just jump the border! ❤
You are choosing patience using the slow decomposition process instead of using g a sod cutter, It looks great
That was a lot of work and you did a great job! Just think how much fun you will have in filling it up in the months and maybe years to come :)
Hi Jenny 🌺. You did a wonderful work . This new yard looks amazing with the mulch and I can't wait to see how you will arrange the plants in it . Have a fantastic day . 🌺🌻🌺

Looking good Jenny ! 💐💚🙃
Looks fantastic, can't wait to see what you plant. Please be careful trimming those branches. God bless!

I too am decomposing leaves in black garbage bags. First batch will be ready for fall , almost there ! Took 2 years.
Thank you for showing us how to do this with cardboard. I was wondering how long before you can start planting in this area? How long does it take the cardboard to decompose? Thank you.

Now that was a big job, but in the long run it will be worth it. Can't wait to see what you plant.
Great job - much inspiration on method and application.
Amazing you did A great job i. Know that is hard work but you will be so proud when it is done and happy. and it will be awesome 👌
Wow, very impressive. Great job.!
Big job. Looks great. Can’t wait to you plant it.
That's a lot of work, but it looks so nice! I'll look forward to see how you fill it!!

@jesthesinginggardener I think 🤔 😂
Wow ! That was alot of work and it looks gorgeous. Can't wait to see what you are going to plant in it.
Empty mulch = Gardening dreams ❤
Wow, looks good, excited to see you plant it up❤
Nice job Jenny. Will you wait until fall to add the shrubs?
Not sure but probably
I love the head wrap that you are wearing, I’m looking for one and haven’t had any luck!
I got mine at Duluth Trading
Looks great Jenny!
Looks great!
Great process
Great fun!
Great job!
Ooh, a chance for new plants... and planting! Any disappearing lawn is a good thing.. IMHO..😊
Love it ❤
That’s exciting! We’re adding a new bed in our front yard too.
Jim is correct. New wood chips are too green and will burn the new plants.
Don’t ask me how I learned this. 🤣
Jenny it’s a lot of hard work but it’s an amazing transformation and thank you for sharing each step…I can see all the plants in your stash being used!
Beautiful new bed! That moss would look good in your terrarium, make a fairy garden.
Wow, beautiful work!! So fun to have a new look, love the symmetry of the front to really show off the house! 🥳☀️👍🏻💕
So great! You can never have enough planting space 😂. I’m so glad you are keeping that tree line intact.
Having both sides of the front lawn the same width is a great idea. Just finished edging after heavy rain and it was much easier! Love your videos
Great job Jenny!!
