Mazda CX-3 AWD Diagonal test: Better with TCS OFF! | Snow and ice!

- Check out that Mazda CX-3 diagonal test! Done during winter, you can see that the I-Activ AWD system will change its algorithm according to if you have the Traction Control System ( TCS ) on or off! Tcs on = less traction, TCS off = better traction! Kind of strange but Mazda explained how the programmed their AWD system!
i-ACTIV AWD is constantly monitoring road conditions in real-time and watching for tiny variations in wheel speed that a driver would never notice. Proactively controlling the distribution of torque, which can range from full front-drive through to full 4-wheel-drive, the system not only provides solid and predictable handling for all-road performance, it makes driving on poor road surfaces more efficient by all but eliminating wasteful tire-slippage.
Take note that the CX-3 now has a little boost of power up to 146-hp!

Car Question it should be better on dirt and wet too?
So is turning off TSC better for off-road (dirt, not snow) conditions or only when one wheel is in the air?
Could applying the brakes or handbrake help in this case? It seems like a good of fashion brake modulation would have helped.
Was this tested on the OEM all seasons or winter tires?
I got CX9 signature of 2017 and I always thinking that what is better to drive with TCS on or off, I am in Calgary Canada and we got a lot of snow, slush and super freezing roads, could you suggest? Thanks
No talking.. no annoying music..and learned alot !!
1:51 pure gold. System immediately send power to front where theres traction
Your AWD tests are still the best on RUclips
Much better results. Great video as always. Thank you
I can see the cx5 turbo video is coming :)))))) Great job carQuestion, as always.
Just purchased a CX30 and live in Ontario, Eastern, but still this really confirms I made a good purchase. My last car was a Mazda 3, loved it but front wheel drive, was no so good in winter.
Hey man has it been reliable for you? Do you like it?
+1 for snow drift ;-)
That car looks nice, I wonder if it gets better fuel economy with traction control ON seeing that it's like an AWD switch. I like cars that give you control on when to turn awd on or off. For me, I'd turn it ON in the summer to save gas and turn it OFF in the winter. And yes, that's a beautiful car!
I wonder if they can do a software update to correct that?
TCS off would mean =( when entering a snow covered curve no?
Vrm cool !
:( I wanted to see TSC off from the beginning during one of the diagonal test instead of turning it off already half way up
We will take notes on that and will give you another video with your request! But it's gonna have to wait a little :)
@@CarQuestion please do another quick test. In your opinion should we leave the TSC of for uneven off-roading? I have 2016 cx3. I won't get the new AWD software that the new (REVENGE) Mazdas come with. You can see my rear wheels spinning below.

I really think this beats Toyota’s AWD system.
Güzel araç
Definitely needs locking difs. My vehicle w SH-AWD is very good in snow but I wouldn’t compare the two
For the AWD to work, do you have to deactivate the traction control?
Isn't that strange?
Hi I have a 2022 Mazda CX5 GT with winter tires on it. I got stuck in snow today and I noticed the front wheels were moving only. The rear wheels never worked, the front wheels were keep digging into the snow. Any idea why? Why my awd system didn’t work?
maybe your Tire ^_^
Mazda has done some fantastic work, too bad they aren't using a dual clutch rear end. Wonder what AWD lockup they are using.....Programming is great.
The traction control button is like an awd switch.
Check out that video here, where Mazda explain's it at to us :)

Next time make sure it's below freezing, your wipers are on and you are on an incline; then you will have "AWD"! Fantastic!
Excellent video as always now all Mazda has to do is attend to that little traction control problem then it just might work almost as good a KIA sorento 😎
hell o can i use 215 55 18 tire on mazda cx 3 awd ?
For winter tires:
18" Recommended: 215/50-18
18" Alternate: 225/45-18
@DThompson T I heard Mazda Service costs more than Toyota and Mitsubishi, plz give ur opinion and share your experience about reliability. Thanx
Had a 2010 new mazda 3, 189 000 km. Sold it after 7 years of great fun, but before having any repairs, but mostly because i wanted the new Subaru impreza. Now i have 2 subarus. Love them better because of great safety and fun in snow. Get good tires (Nokian haka) and its fun!
@@OutdoorFun01 You won't "love them" if you plan to keep 100,000+ miles - Can you say "head gasket replacement"?
@@4orrcountry That's prior 2011 old news. Had 2007 impreza, 2011 legacy, no problem. Had a 2017 impreza and changed it for 2021 crosstrek outdoor and also have a 2019 impreza. No problems Love them!
Will there be any video for CX5 Signature diagonal test?
When we tested the Signature, it's was in BC canada. So probably not early this year but maybe more at the end of this year. Expect identical performance as figure in that video: ruclips.net/video/xlt11Z4JAB8/видео.html
@@CarQuestion Yes, I watched that video. That 2017 CX5 awd performed really poor (even with TCS off) compared to this CX3 awd and your new white CX9 awd (your most recent 2 mazda diagonal test videos). Looks like in 2018 Mazda updated the awd algorithm and that's why I'm wondering how the new CX5 turbo would perform. I'm really impressed with the new CX9 awd performance and this CX3 performance. Not so much wheel spin and the wheels with traction get the torque much quicker than the 2017 CX5. Very similar to 4matic and xdrive diagonal performance.
Is it a 50-50 AWD system all the time or partially?
all time
You know it has a lot of torque when it spins all 4 wheels
146....
ok...lol how many videos and responses does Mazda need to make their AWD work :P?
? Not sure I get your question
@@CarQuestion Not directed at you,but Mazda had many journalists test their cars and post video after video because they got stuck/failed Diagonal tests. They had to explain themselves way too much...same thing happened with Honda CRV and that useless AWD few years ago.

Well a least this CX3 beat the Kona in the diagonal test...
Kona is a Hyundai which has had MULTIPLE ENGINE RECALLS in recent years. if Hyundai can't make their engines properly after 40+ years, why bother with ANY of their models?
"Traction Control OFF" truly is a misnomer in any car these days. If all it does is change the algorithm it's not "off" per se even if the car responds better.
It depends on the car. In some cars, turning off vdc/tcs is really off. In some cars it just turns off a portion of the system. Subaru, for example, turning the vdc/tcs switch to off only turns off the engine management. The portion that applies the brakes is still active.
6 speeds awd and snow
Diagonal test new subaru forester
already filmed, it's airing out soon :)
@@CarQuestion thank you very much)
Can’t wait to see what the Honda Passport can do.
soon my friend :P
@@CarQuestion can't wait!!😁
2:23 at this time it is not a cx-3 anymore but a cx-5….
I hate my RAV
Toyota hates that thing also
It s clear that you messed up the buttons
your comment is not clear
@@CarQuestion no mate, you are showing that a Mazda Cx-3 is not having control on traction with the TCS ON but not showing the dash so someone messed up poping the TCS on and off on your clip.
@@eddiemichael4333 0:11 you can read the text when we tell you it's on or off, you can even see my movement to press that button. Now if you think we need to show you the dash as proof.... you're basically telling us that you don't believe what you see and you don't trust us?
too much drama...
la dimostrazione che i controlli elettronici sono solo d'impiccio!
Cx3 absolute rubbish in snow. I'll be trading mine in for another car.
