wooow! most tutorials tell you to just deconstruct stuff into simple shapes but not how, but you with those two methods made me want to try it out! I'd definitely like to see more related videos. watching how you analyse it and whith the animations it makes much much easier for me to understand it. after you take off the guidelines I can still see the shapes, which is awesome. much better than trying to figure this out by myself with a photo that to men is full of complex and random stuff. there are even things that I wouldn't think by myself and watching this made me aware of them. so cool! I'm adding this to my drawing playlist

Really what you can do is squint and draw the rough shapes you see, then just squint less and less, adding more detail each time. After the basic shapes it takes practice. That's why you see painters squinting at their reference, it helps you find the basic outline of shapes you're looking at. Eventually, you can lightly erase and leave some pencil behind so you can do some outlining with either paint or an ink medium like a pen or marker. Really you just lightly sketch basic shapes and you sort of slowly build upon the shapes with more complex shapes. Eventually you will be good enough to draw without reference and with less sketching, but stick with sketching. I've been sketching for years (though im not that great) and I can tell you my biggest regret is refusing to finish my drawings. I have drawn hundreds of cool things, but I never outline or color them because I was too scared to ruin it. The reality is that you need to practice sketching for a while and then try your final piece with gray scale shading. Atleast shade, but you don't have to color, that's a whole other thing. Once you are confident in your shading and mixing abilities, I'd say practice with colors and see what you can create. There are so many art mediums and it's a very accepting community, please follow some artists on social media and spend some time scrolling tiktok or Instagram for tips. Anyways, I hope after 8 months you can still finish that drawing :)
Well idk what your skills are but definitely practice colors. I've been sketching for years and I have created like 3 finished pieces, and they're not that great because all I ever did for practice was sketching. It's important to practice mixing colors, getting clean linework, and blending your shadows.
@@extraordinarytenno6716 it's not a quick process, but if you want to be able to sketch basic things, I'd say after a few weeks of practice you could manage a decent sketch with some line work, and if you practice hard enough you could get some decent shading in. It definitely takes time though and proportions are difficult so don't give up because you mess up. The only person that makes no mistakes is the person that has never done anything.

I’m a person who can’t think images or ‘see’ things if I’m not currently looking at them (sorry if I’m not describing it right-I really don’t understand what visualizing is) and honestly, this hasn’t been helping at all. I can’t understand how to make shapes out of the photos like she is. I just don’t see them. I see the outlines of the lion or the letters on the can but I never would have guessed triangles or trapezoids are in there, and even seeing her do it I can’t figure out how. It almost feels like a prank. I was actually wondering if being unable to see things that aren’t in front of me is the _reason_ why I’m too dumb for this, like maybe you guys are actually seeing something I can’t because you have other ways to do it. I don’t know!

@@ymck1294 Usually in anatomy drawing Tutorials you're told that people are proportionately 8 heads tall. They say the "6 heads tall" thing is especially weird since the 8 head thing is probably what they were more used to.
@@waffleisaloser1569 I always found 8 heads weird since only people taller than 6'4 fit that kind of measurements, while everyone is 6.5 to 7 heads in proportion
Been journaling so now I want to start drawing in my journal and these simple tips are just what a need for simple drawings I’m looking for and man yeah. My biggest problems is looking for shapes obecause I can’t see them yet but I’ll try on random shapes in my home or photos from my camera. Also the form of big shapes are better for me since it lets my have good ratio on body as creating multiple shapes right away doesn’t work for me yet. I recently started to use this method and damn it has helped a lot, especially in traditional art. It's a good way to draw a character or object in a place you want it to be without accidentally making it for ex. too far away from the middle or you won't accidentally make it too big or too small
It's the foremost first thing to do in formal art too! Drawing shapes plus drawing your own hand from observation is fundamental. To improve on the method, try speed drawing. A minute, 30 seconds, 10 seconds, or 5 minutes, draw the general shape first. The longer the time, the more details you can add. Great for training your eye and proportion.
I was diagnosed with autism and savant syndrome in my early 30's. I have a IQ score of 200 and I can draw like a printer. I have difficulty walking and processing speech but I can draw like a professional and sculpt anything. I love sculpting too. It's the details, I love the work it takes to put details into my work. I don't know how I do it I just do it. I also learn by watching. I don't need guidance I just need a good view. ☺️ LoL I really like your work. I love learning how others draw. Sometimes I wish I had to learn because I get bored not having a challenge. Right now I am taking a break from my drawings and I am watching others for awhile. RUclips is awesome for that. I have been able to draw since I was six years old. I started out drawing roses that I watched from the window of my childhood home. We had the couch underneath the living room window and I would set on the ledge of the window and watch the rose's and birds. My mom brought me art supplies for fun and I started drawing the rose's as if it was a photo even over the coloring books pictures. I covered the pages with my own drawings. My mom was very surprised but excited for me. She encouraged me to share my work with people, she also bought me better art supplies so I can do more. My teachers ended up encouraging me to submit my work to the fair and art galleries downtown when I was in first grade. I got rewards from the fair and the art galleries paid me to have my work displayed. When I was in junior highschool one of my art pieces was put in a local museum and was on display for years. I took pictures of my hometown for a art project and I draw the pictures and placed them on a board with information about the places I drew, I put the photos on the side of the board so everyone can see them. It told a historical story of my hometown. I also drew old photos of some of the houses I found pictures of at the library. I also learned more about my family history too because my family has connection's with my hometown. My grandpa and his family helped build the city we live in. I also am related to famous people who are artist and musician's as well scientists. My grandpa was interviewed by a movie director for the production of a movie for the dust bowl. I was part of the interview, I sat in my grandpa's lap for half of the interview. ☺️ He was my favorite person in the world. My journey with art and poetry has been amazing. I'm hoping for a lot more years of art and poetry are ahead of me. 👍☺️

Very good tutorial. Ive learned this from mere reason when i was a child, no one taught me. I also apply this to figure drawing. Start with basic shapes, then light details, full details then shade. This also applies to shading light and shadows. No matter how good the drawing/painting the end result will be, i love the beginning process of construction lines and shapes and perspective more.

I can answer that question for you. Generally always shaded are wrinkles and areas where lines merge together. The rest of the shading is done by trying to understand the direction of the light source. Now, imagine you are a camera positioned where the light source is. Everything you don’t see will be shaded (shadows). If you’re a beginner in shading, there also a trick you can use. Break the drawing into simple volumes (cylinders, spheres, cubes etc). Light interacts with them in a simple way, and if you understand that, you can find the major regions of shadows

I think it's quite important to consider the vacant space in proportion to your subject. That is a brilliant idea. Most wouldn't think of analyzing what isn't part of the picture. Negative space, as you call it. Thanks. This does make me want to try to draw.

The thing that helps out the most for me at least is practicing with headshots with characters I like. I draw the heads using simple shapes, then fill in the details. Once you understand how shapes can be carved into details on the face you can have an easier time doing larger subjects.

I don't use the head technique cause it makes me confused quite a lot but everyone has their own way of drawing so it's fine.

I think it's quite important to consider the vacant space in proportion to your subject. That is a brilliant idea. Most wouldn't think of analyzing what isn't part of the picture. Negative space, as you call it. Thanks. This does make me want to try to draw.

I needed this video. Yesterday, I was completely overwhelmed with starting to draw when I learned in college about breaking down shapes, though I get nervously excited when wanting to draw something to get my art to grow. As everything comes with a process, I stand by to at least try when it’s part of learning through. Subscribed!💯

One of the best sketching tutorials
The thing that helps out the most for me at least is practicing with headshots with characters I like. I draw the heads using simple shapes, then fill in the details. Once you understand how shapes can be carved into details on the face you can have an easier time doing larger subjects.
