It's a great pickup mate 🔥 The £5 coin seems to have been a very popular choice 👌 The only problem is, I can't afford any purple popcorn now I've bought all these coins 😪
Historically most recent King's on coins don't have crowns. This image was dreamed up by the Mint to use on Royal Coronation Coins this year to get the collectors interest. It may be used on the Sovereigns next but I don't think there are plans to put it on circulating coins. They may use it in the future on other Royal event coins. They will issue 5 million Coronation 50 pence coins for circulation but plan to put the bare head on them.
The coronation coins will be the only purple popcorn coins that have an image of King Charles wearing a crown. The last few coins with a kings image on going back to George the iv (I think) didn't have them wearing a crown, and King Charles is keen to carry this tradition on.

Yeah, I don't think everything actually sold out on Monday. Even SOTD sovs were back on the site this morning. Seems the initial hype maybe wasn't real?
Just had a look at the Royal Mint website and the have sold out mostly with some awaiting delivery. As you say the premiums are very high there, as I collect for weight rather than design, I may pick up some Charles III britannias in due course. But will not pay over the odds, when the Elizabeth II are still cheaper.
I am a new silver buyer and my first 6 Britannia’s within a month were severely milk spotted. Very disappointed. I pretty much will now stick to maples as I live in Canada anyways. I would buy more Britannia’s if they had the same mint shield like the RCM.
Somehow managed to get the sovereign after initially finding myself at around 29,000 in the queue. But, I missed out on all the low mintage silver options and purple popcorn.
I bought the 1 oz 999 silver as I prefer the design. I bought the £5 and 50p just in BU to have examples even though they are unlimited mintage. I would have liked to buy the 2 oz silver but unfortunately, with a mintage of only 1000, they were snapped up too quickly for me to secure one.
Not sure they will release circulated coins with a crowned King Charles - previous King George and Edward sovs didn’t portray a crowned King either. Will be interesting to see.
You've made a good choice to buy the £5 proof coin. I like your reasoning. I might try to buy the same coin now. I was on the fence pondering if the coronation coins are good value for money and a good investment. I might still be. The premiums are high. But owning a King Charles III coronation coin could be nice.
Don't be giving the Royal Mint any more ideas 365, to add even more coins to the collection. If they go for a 2023 King Charles with Crown Britannia that would be the third version in 6 months. Even by their standard that would be pushing it, but wouldn't be surprised if we get an announcement from them after the 6th of May saying there will be more Silver and Gold Proofs, 1oz, 1/4oz and 1/10oz Gold Bullion coins and 1oz Silver Bullion Brit....oh and add in the 1Kilo Silver for good measure.....Stop it RM, there is a cost of living crisis you know!!!

I bought the 2 Pounds pure silver. I thought it was better value for money and the reverse design was (personally) nicer - more intricate and better detailing. The Crown design looks like he's hiding underneath a port-hole. What I'd really like is the 2013 60th jubilee with the orb & sceptre in the foreground looking into the depths of Westminster Abbey, now that's a stunning design. But, I don't have £400 to spare.
