Two months after this video, Google Wallet was released in India on the 8th of May. As of right now, both Google Wallet and Pay are available in India.
Basically for Google pay, you don't need NFC support nor a Contactless terminal, you just need a phone that has a camera and a qr code, so it is more versatile and widely used. Also Google pay is based on UPI which is a system of India
Gpay is one of the leading payment solutions in India, closely behind Phonepe and Paytm - both of which seem to be more reliable and faster than Gpay. As per reports though, Google Wallet would soon be released in India and other parts of Asia. I bet when that happens the reviews ratings would fly over rhe roof. 😂

Honestly, I have never used Apple Wallet, but from the ads and videos I have seen, you won't miss anything. Both are capable of storing cards, transport passes, keys, and other stuff. However, both support specific keys, transport passes, and loyalty cards, so you will need to research that. Hope it helps.
0:16 There is an oversight as the entire Indian region is not colored when depicting India on the map. Eight states were missed in highlighting on the map, which is not acceptable.

My Google Pay automatically instructed me to download the Google Wallet. Google Pay is gone, but all your info & cards are already in Google Wallet when you install it from Google Play.
Google cannot discontinue gpay in terms of business or at least in India. They might integrate it with Google wallet later as they started to roll out Google wallet in India

Google Pay seems to be an outdated thing. Haven't used it in a while. It's more like a Paypal - a dying dinosaur :D
People still use it in the US and India. I was shocked to see that it has over a billion downloads on Google Play.

Yes. I have seen ads where Google is promoting Google Pay in India.
Google pay is just another payment app based on UPI. You'll find lots of other payments apps in India
