    Dr. Jessica Shellock, Spine surgeon at Texas Back Institute treats patients with many types of spinal conditions including Degenerative Disc Disease (DDD), also known as Spondylosis. Spondylosis is a condition that usually occurs due to aging. As the term implies, it is the progressive deterioration of the discs between the vertebral bodies. Spondylosis (a different term than spondylolisthesis) is typically a degenerative condition of the joints of the spine and is also known as spinal osteoarthritis. The discs, joints and ligaments of the spine are generally involved. The discs lose their cushioning effect between the spinal bones, the ligaments become weaker or thicken, and the bones can develop bony growths or spurs. Aging and repetitive stresses to the spine are the primary causes of this degeneration, but it also can be present in younger adults who have had prior trauma. Not everyone will have symptoms (usually pain) as a result of spondylosis. If severe, spondylosis may cause pressure on nerve roots with subsequent pain or tingling in the arms or legs.

      I wonder if it has anything to do with if the vertebrae are stacked improperly causing degeneration to happen on one side, then the other in a sort of stair step way. If that’s true, I would imagine a chiropractor would help slow down the degeneration by placing the vertebrae back into position.

    I live with pretty severe pain as the result of this disease. I have had radio neurotomy 3 times, steroid injections 3 times, seen a chiropractor, had acupuncture, all to no avail. At present I am on pretty heavy pain medication to cope with it (methadone). I am only 59 years old and cannot work because of it.
    Contrary to this video I must state that spondylosis is in no way a part of the normal aging process.
    If this could be controlled with a "few extra Tylenol" my life would be very different today.

I know I need to get in better shape, but I’m just glad this isn’t seemingly related to that. I start PT soon and hope my pain will subside!

    Wonderful video, but your dx is deceiving. It does NOT solely have to do with aging of the spine. I have advanced rheumatoid arthritis, as does my daughter who is only 27 years of age, and we both are dealing with spondylosis. I am 48 years old and my x-rays show the spine of a woman who is typically elderly. I am not an athlete, I have simply been dealing with an aggressive form of RA for 10 years. My daughter is a young woman and has had to get cortisone injections because she was unable to walk. Just as we do not like the word "arthritis" being in RA, preferring Rheumatoid Autoimmune Disease, saying that spondylosis ONLY is a disease of aging is very, very deceiving. It makes people like my daughter and I say "what happened to us?"

    Absolute complete lies spoken from someone who hasn't lived with what she's speaking on and is only going off what her books say. I'm sick and tired of drs downplaying and minimizing brutal pain just because their book says it doesn't really hurt. I have spondylosis, as well as many many other issues with my back and the pain is absolutely debilitating. I'm crippled at 41 but they say it's "normal" aging of the body smh. I have been dealing with this since I was 25 yrs old. I haven't worked any job that was hard on my back. Something is wrong with me but since I have crap insurance drs don't care and blow me off. "Just a lil pain that can be managed with some Tylenol????" Yeah right 🤣🤣🤣 I only wish. Narcotics don't even touch the pain and Tylenol are no better than eating a skittle. I wish drs would take our lives and the quality of it more serious. I know for them it doesn't really matter because they don't live with it nor do they see what our lives look like. I'm miserable, I've given everything up because I just can't physically do it. I want to so bad and it's all I think about but I'm stuck at home disabled and drs don't seem to care so yeah it's really hard for me to hear this woman sit here and pretend like she knows or understands what this feels like. I'm really sorry to anyone else living this nightmare and you're definitely in my prayers.

  • @AJohnson0325
    @AJohnson0325 5 месяцев назад +3

    As long as you haven’t lost much disc height and it’s not bulging then I wouldn’t worry about it much. Just do the same core exercises that physical therapists would gave patients do and make sure you are careful and font herniate a disc. Once one herniation happens it’s way easier to do it again and the degeneration will speed up the more times you herniate it. I’ve herniated like six times and my disc looks like a flat tire. The problems come with fissures which weaken and cause bulging which can cause sciatic nerve pain which is horrible sometimes. If you lose height of the disc then you can get sponylolisthesis and it puts more stress on facet joints. If you lose a lot of height then bone spurs can start to develop. It sucks when you get this and you’re not even old yet.

Trying to get oked for ablation but haven't succeeded as of yet. I've had hip replacement which was a g-d send, low back L4-5 (disc protrusion) authoscopic surgery worked like a charm no pain immediately after both were in my 50's. So pretty much OA wear and tear now my cervical spine is a mess and not a easy fix as the others......yep even hip replacement after a month or 2 of recovery is highly recommended I often forget is titanium and plastic.

Maybe it’s literally the bone touching the bone. But then how come sometimes it’s not as bad? Why is it bad 24 hours after I work out? But within that 24 hours it’s fine? And then after a few days it gets better again? But never 100

    • @TexasBack
      @TexasBack  5 лет назад +1

      Non-surgical treatments for spondylosis include epidural injections, chiropractic care, pain management medications and physical therapy. If the pain continues or there is evidence of a severely compressed nerve, surgery may be considered. Surgery for spondylosis involves two main components: eliminating what is causing pain and then fusing the spine to control movement. Surgery may also include decompression, which means removing the tissue that is pressing on nerves. Spondylosis and disc degeneration causing functionally disabling pain that fails to improve with conservative treatment may be treated with fusion or disc replacement surgery. Every case is different It is therefore very important to discuss treatment options with a spine specialist familiar with all types of spinal surgery in deciding which treatment, if any, may be best for you. You can find more information about this topic at: texasback.com/conditions/spondylosis/

But yes they want to fuse and not help with anything else but screws I also saw there is a way with a cell regeneration method to inject the disk and bring the disk back. But they won’t do it.. only rods so now I’m looking into our own power to heal ourselves with shifting dimensions with the mind because we can heal our selves if we can tap into high vibrations
