    6:52 "You know. When you watch a good movie, it doesn't matter what language it is spoken in." So true!! Some of my favorite movies that I find emotionally powerful, haven't been in English.

      Asian movies are the ONLY movies I will watch with subtitles because their movies have so much passion and content.

    She's my all time favorite female actress, even at the beginning of her career with Jacky Chan in Police Story. She was really beautiful then and up to now even though she is aging a little bit. Her liveliness is contagious.. :) --Love from Philippines

    Wow ! Didn't know she is of Fukienese (Fujianese) ancestry, and speaks English this well. She may have a Malaysian-HK accent, but her grammar and vocab-usage are 99.9% spot-on. She is an amazing actress, as well as lady, indeed.

    I wondered why the critics of Sword of Destiny keep comparing this movie to the original? Doubtless to say that Ang Lee's film remains a superbly directed and incomparable masterpiece. But as Michelle Yeoh said, the makers of the sequel wanted to give it a 'different approach' which is a very sensible thing to do, otherwise the new film may just be a copy-cat job! I enjoyed watching Sword of Destiny very much. There's also humour in this one. Thanks to Turtle Ma...of Tavern fame. Overall a pretty engrossing wuxia film. Pretty background scenery of New Zealand Alps too. I could recognize the Remarkables.
    Kudos to Michelle Yeoh, great lady, for reprising her role. Plus with Donnie Yen as a love interest...that's a bonus! Cheers to the Green Destiny!

    Michelle Yeoh is Miss Malaysia in 1983. Hongkong actress Maggie Cheung is Miss Hong Kong 1983. Both join Miss Universe contest during that yr.

    She's so positive. I love it. :D
    Personally, I enjoyed the movie and wouldn't mind watching it again (and again). It's probably 'cause I haven't watched the first one and have very rarely ever watched Wuxia-themed movies though I am a (casual) fan of martial arts and Wuxia 'culture'. Despite all the criticisms, I find myself not caring; I still honestly like the movie.

    She is a fantastic actress, I like her better then Gong Li. But am not to sure about this new remake of this movie she did recently. I like hearing the Mandarin Chinese and have sub titles then hear them speak English in the new remake of Tiger movie. Other then that, she is one fantastic woman!

    The movie was done in english, a bit of a departure in chinese movie tradition in which actors speak either mandarin or fukien, perhaps they want this movie to appeal more to western audience, as this was released in netflix which is more utilized in the west.

      The Hong Kong movies are mostly in Cantonese; until about 2000, most Chinese flicks seen in the West came from Hong Kong.

    03:33 Michelle Yeoh on Weinstein- "........which made it very difficult to say no......". The power Weinstein had is right here in Michelle's words; with the assumption she knew little or nothing about him.

    This movie was an absolute affront to the classic original. It's so disrespectful and unauthentic to the subject matter and cultural background. And everyone is made to speak English! They may as well have hired all white actors.

  • @corrollasful
    @corrollasful 8 лет назад

    the original movie did not need a sequel, in fact if there where to be such a film, it should've been a bloodline to the original, it should've been it's own film with some type of relation to the first film but not a direct sequel, Ang Lee should've came back to do that

    • @Stormwern
      @Stormwern 8 лет назад

      It kind of is though. She's the only returning character, and only two others are even mentioned.

      Stormwern I know it kind of is, I'm saying that the first movie did not need a sequel to begin with, this movie should've been it's own movie instead

    she seems so great and its a shame the movie was so terrible. Some fight scenes were ok but overall it was pretty bad. Also for the future if you make a movie set in ancient china dont have everyone speak english, it destroys the atmosphere.

    • @irish66
      @irish66 8 лет назад

      +alexpoobum I'm watching the movie, and it's too early to say what I think of it. But so far (just got to attempted stealing of sword) I'm thinking it's pretty good. But the english dialogue doesn't feel right. I don't know the other actors. I haven't seen Donnie Yen, yet. But when Michelle speaks, there is something flat about her delivery. When she's not speaking it's fine. She can convey emotions through looks. She makes a good case for the language of the movie not mattering. but I think she's wrong. As you say, atmosphere is lost. Okay, as the movie goes on I might get more used
      to the english.
      The weird thing for me is how sucessful this movie has been in china. It has taken twice what crouching tiger did at the box office.

    • @alexpoobum
      @alexpoobum 8 лет назад +1

      irish66
      its success in china could be due to the success of the first movie, but overall i think the movie is pretty bad. I heard one person with an australian/asian accent and it just feels so wrong. I think i would prefer the movie dubbed in chinese than in english.

    • @irish66
      @irish66 8 лет назад

      +alexpoobum Oh, I thought it wasn't a hit in china. Yep. dubbed in chinese. and subtitled in english. :)

    • @irish66
      @irish66 8 лет назад

      +irish66 Well I've finished watching it, and I thought it was a good movie. No, it's nowhere near the quality of the original. But I got used to the dialogue being in english. And the original was a flop in china. Here is a quote from a reviewer from singapore
      "and also because people in China hated the first movie and it flopped and one of the reason is because of Chow Yun Fatt's Cantonese accentand Michelle Yeoh had Malaysian accent in their mandarin dialogue, so please try and understand instead of claiming it should be in Mandarin,
      the original got mocked because of the bad mandarin accents"
      Anyway maybe I have an advantage. If I hadn't read some of the bad reviews about crouching 2. I might have expected more.

    just saw it, i thought it was a great film, they speak english, which bothered me somewhat and i dont understand this decision, it makes no sense. and they changed the sword which was a fuck up also. but in all i think it was a good film

  • @vortex162

    I didn't like it! "Give it a new dressing" is what screws up the original!
