These used to be metal minis in the 90s and SJG tried to match them up to the originals. That's why they are so many pieces. Be glad they are not still in metal.
For the infantry if you are gluing them down, it's easier to cut the little locking tabs off with sprue cutters

Yeah that’s what I ended up doing for most is chopping those clips off.

I cut one of clips off the infantry and then glued them to the base.
