You can also trivialize the final part of the Gonarch fight using the whiteboards in the Research Lab. The team of scientists there were working on a way to defeat her and if you carry this special canister all the way to the final arena where you fight her there's this hidden alcove where you can insert the canister and it gasses her to death. Edit: Just finished the video, the films he was talking about is going to be Borderline Forever. I'm calling it now.
What I like about OG Xen: The final portal to Nihilanthe is in a creepy black void that may be a similar void space that Gman uses for stasis. And the freaky sounds and the voice lines coming from the portal, sounds like voices from the past when the cascade started. The skyboxes go from nebulae in space to what looks like you've been shrunken to the point single cell organisms appear as large as major cities.
I find it absolutely wonderful that for me, Black Mesa was my HL1 I never had a PC growing up, so I jever got to experience a lot lf those impactful games, except the cobsole ones like Mario 64, Halo, etc. But Black Mesa was my HL experience when I marathoned the series, and after replaying it after HL2, god it made me love Xen even more Black Mesa is a wonderful game made by wonderful people. Really glad it came out, and this video really helped me appreciate it even more Amazing vid, keep up the good work
yet another fun fact, Kevan Brighting, who voices the Narrator in The Stanley Parable, has a cameo voice role in this game just before Gordon enters into the test chamber and causes the resonance cascade
another fun fact, while the developers at Valve were making Half Life Alyx, the developers were playing through Half Life 2 Episode 2 and the original Half Life for inspiration. However, the developers got tired of playing Half Life after a while and started playing Black Mesa instead, which they believed was a much more enjoyable experience, even congratulating Crowbar Collective for creating such an amazing game.
Great video, was worth the wait. Also, on the plus side of it taking a year to make means you got to release it during Half Life's 25th anniversary month and funny enough the same day Vavle uploaded their own documentary. So some fun good timing there :) In terms of your next video question, I would say go with whatever style you feel suits the video and I'm sure it'll turn out great. So if you want to do smaller rant style video go for it.
Finally someone echoes my thoughts on Interloper's climb. (And the Citadel in HL2). This tower is supposed to be kilometres tall and Interloper made me god damn feel it whereas the Citadel feels like an IRL skyscraper at best.
i havent played og xen yet but when me and a friend reached it in gmod they were struggling balls at the platforms and i got stuck at the beginning island and so our headcanon to just drop the game is that the two scientists died because one of them forgot their backpack and the other got gas poisoning
fun fact, for the Nihilanth level, if you want to spice things up a bit, you can hit your use key on three of the Xen trees in the level near the healing pools and energy crystals, which will then in the last part of the boss battle spawn a trio of gonarchs. Yes, THREE GONARCHS! THREE of them!
Great Video! Always a delightful to see a notification from your channel! Love your passion and enthusiast for the game and the soundtrack, its contagious 👍✨Xen looks Gorgeous Xen looks Gorgeous I have only played HL2 myself years ago so I'm not full familiar with the franchise's lore, but yeah ahaha 31:10 I just felt in HL2 aliens were natural for the game's plot, wasn't aware they had that much history in the first game! Poor Fellas! ( ._.)
Top tier video, loved how passionate you were to just getting into rambly bits and of course the screaming moments lmao I also loved the Channel Awesome video, please, any video you drop next, I'll be there!
Thank you for this video. You've expressed quite eloquently and in detail how good Black Mesa's Xen chapters are. I love this, I love Black Mesa's Xen.
Y'know, when I played the Xen chapter, I actually forgot that Black Mesa is a game that took place in a research facility. I guess that's what happen when the Xen chapter is extended to 4 hours gameplay.
Fun fact: The word "Interloper" means to someone or something that isn't wanted or desired to be involved in a situation. Essentially an intruder that is not wanted.
Fuck yeah new video. You explaining why you like the climb is the exact reason in hl2 they didnt make you climb the tower. It would of took too long which personally I would of liked.
You know, replayed Half-Life and last weekend I finished it. And if I'm completely honest, i enjoyed it. Not all of it, but a large portion of it. The first chapter is underwhelmingly short and doesn't look al that great. Gonarch's layer was pretty ok. But moving on to Interloper... my god the first map sucks. Worst map in the game by far. Thankfully you can skip it like almost instantly, so I did just that. And the stealth section followed. First time doing stealth in that area, and it was actually kinda fun. And I had a bunch of fun in the factory. Ik, i'm probably crazy, but I enjoyed fighting the enemies. Common mistake is to not use your entire arsenal. By this point in the game you're a god. Use all your tools. Spam the gluon gun. Tbh I used the good ol revolver on the controllers more than the gluon gun. The only thing that sucked was the spinning platform leading to the final portal. The rest was fun. I feel like the no atmosphere criticism was uncalled for. There is plenty. Especially in the black void with the final portal leading to the Nihilanth. Super menacing. So yeah, as for the fetus... It was ok. Pretty fun if you don't cheese it and use your long jump to dodge his attacks. Oh, and I didnt use the health pool out of laziness 💀
I think everything that Water Hazard wanted to accomplish was done a million times better in Highway 17. That chapter has the same goal of trying to showcase Gordon travelling a large distance while using a vehicle, but doesnt have that annoying helicopter chasing you the entire time. It all comes down to the setpieces imo. Water Hazard has weak setpieces which makes it feel like a slog, while Highway 17 has some of the best setpieces in the game.
@@vinnysuperg123 i think its subjective i think water hazard has some amazing setpieces, there's something about the look of decaying factories and mills that i just love, the whole thing looks so dead and sad and theres a strange beauty to it i think the helicopter being annoying is intentional btw, once you get the gun at the end of the chapter taking it down feels great and its one of my favorite moments in the entire game and its not like the helicopter is chasing you the whole time, you get some time to breathe i think
Ok I came back to watch the rest and I disagree with one thing: Hell naw, Nihilanth doesn't need epic music. It's not that kind of bossfight. The factory doesn't explode, does it? You said that but i dont think it's the case, right? That means all the Vorts go bye bye.
Btw, if You liked the new alien stuff and the no restrain to the normal " half life remaster " idea You MUST play black mesa blue shift, that shit is like yo, blue shift is kinda bland, why we dont do it in our way ? And MAN THAT SHIT SLAPS SO HARD OMG
i play for the first time half life by black mesa and hive hand is the weapon that when i see what do i dont stop using so i have a lot of ammo in the endpart (sory english inst my languange)
It is what it is. Its actually kinda hype not getting a shitton of views on this video because it proves to myself I mainly just enjoy doing this as a hobby. Ive already started on multiple other videos lmao.
Yeah, og xen is better. Man they made xen so long it's annoying, and you get Lost so easily. The gonarch part is so badly designed, took me like an hour to complete that section. And now (it's my first playthrough) i'm Lost with the part with vortigaunts, and some kind of elevators and générators, and i just wanna quit the game, cause i'm fucking LOST
8:19 wtf is that take dude. gunplay in bm is awful, the weapons feel horrible to use. the sounds and sound design in general just lacks when compared to hl, everything in bm sounds generic. the mp5 passed from those sharp and tracer-like sounds to that annoying peashooter in bm. how did they go from hl2's great feeling shotgun to whatever the hell that stick in black mesa is? the sound is terrible, and it's the weapon you're going to use the most in game.

Black Mesa Xen is honestly just beautiful. I would live there.

41:14 funny I almost exclusively used the Hive hand

The whole Black Mesa Xen is basically Prey 2006.
Thank you for this video.
You've expressed quite eloquently and in detail how good Black Mesa's Xen chapters are.
I love this, I love Black Mesa's Xen.
your vids are always a blast
We need to get a game that recanonises ivan the space biker as a separate scientist during the incident
Y'know, when I played the Xen chapter, I actually forgot that Black Mesa is a game that took place in a research facility. I guess that's what happen when the Xen chapter is extended to 4 hours gameplay.
took me way over 4 hours
holy shit your art skills really improved
One whole hour? Vinny you dog, you spoil us

vinny are you still chewing chewing all day long
I really hope the movie video is Ghost Ship
Really surprised you didn't touch on the secret way to defeat Gonarch lol. That shit was great.
4:27 The woman going Hmmmmmmmmm is cringy as fuck and ruins the entire atmosphere.
Ermmmmm, nuh uh
very important note: kala is fish in finnish. also great soundtrack indeed
why this Perfect video has low views , Really Unfair

This video is the reason ive now experienced black mesa and black mesa Xen - great video
Very cool!
this video was about black mesa xen but the thing that stuck with me the most from this was the unreasonable episode 1 hate
how do you like interloper but not water hazard.. its like the same thing and its one of my favorite chapters in half life 2

Im so upset that this video is criminally underviewed. I hate youtube algorithm.

When i 1st time come to ZEN i have the same fill like yopu it blow my mind

video games...
i play for the first time half life by black mesa and hive hand is the weapon that when i see what do i dont stop using so i have a lot of ammo in the endpart (sory english inst my languange)
Everyone used all their guns and weapons to kill Gonarch? I just abused the RPG lol
Nier replicant library music used liked and unsubbed
Filtered.
The xen chapters are my favorite
What's black mesa?
RUclips's algoritdid you dirty.
This is a fantastic video
It is what it is. Its actually kinda hype not getting a shitton of views on this video because it proves to myself I mainly just enjoy doing this as a hobby. Ive already started on multiple other videos lmao.
black mesa seems so cool
Its one of my favorite games ever even with its problems. Its so good.
Original better because it's short
original xen better
This is the kind of shit to start WW3
