I remember crossing the sunda strait when krakatoa erupted (it was one of the big eruption, produced a tsunami actually ), it was magnificent, just rocks and ash rising to the sky, covering the clouds with its ashes, just magnificent.

@@Ham_meow9 i just hear subtle thunder sounds, but the smoke is very much visible. 3 days later or so the entire volcano collapsed, it has resurfaced recently though. I was just glad it wasn't Merapi (because then I'd have to wear a mask due to the abundance of ashes, yes that happened.)

And also very dangerous considering how loud it was because from what I heard people died from the noise and shockwaves because it caused internal bleeding from the Krakatoa and some went deaf, it’s shockwaves also traveled the earth 3 times.

Imagine 1883 when the mountain was ten times that tall and blew off with the loudest sound in recorded history and the shock waves traveling seven times around the globe. I stood on the beach there in 2008 and did just that -- tried to imagine it.

What actually causes the lightning is the continuous rubbing of the rocks in the smoke, it creates electricity. Same concept as rubbing a balloon.

Today, merchant-surface vessels have clear visual of straits of melacca and straits of johor and straits of singapore. To rebound off sulawesi, they should maintain 15knts constant with constant flushing of ballast. Surface temperature is good for cleaning ballasts. Sub-surface is curly and narrow
