    What gives his daughter the right to decide when its time to fix his relationship with his brother? What does she stand to gain from it? IMO she's being selfish. Putting the brother back into the picture at the cost of her father's pain is selfish.

    His daughter is a MAJOR POS for talking to the uncle behind her father’s back.
    Op should’ve said that she broke his trust in response to her petty threats. Is she even an adult? She sounds like a child stamping her feet because she got caught doing something she shouldn’t have been doing.

      no, OP is embarrassing himself completely still negatively feeding on something that happened DECADES ago. besides that, he has a now grown daughter, obviously not with his then GF, so why hating on her and his brother instead of being thankful to the universe/god/whatever he believes in that this (forced) separation over twenty years ago led him to the mother of his daughter? i would exclude such a petty miserable blackmailing grudge-holder as well and have no sympathy with his butthurt teenage behaviour. no one wants him to LOVE his brother, but he could at least make an effort to not care at all or even be civil with him. would also make his own life easier if he allowed himself to shed the heavy hatred-chain around his neck.

    I find it so fascinating that a lot of commentators were telling OP to just get over it. Yet, I guarantee if they were in this situation they would’ve reacted exactly the same way OP did. I’ll never understand why the daughter even bothered to build a relationship with OP relative despite what he’s done. What the relative did was unforgivable & there’s no excuse for it whatsoever. The daughter, inviting the relative & his partner into his home without his permission is also unacceptable. Now all of a sudden that the daughter finds out that her uncle was just using her this entire time now she wants to post all over social media about how he was using… pathetic.

    When that one person made the comment that said that if he stands his ground, he will miss out on things like grandkids birthday and stuff like that, I can’t help but think, “Would that really be that bad?” The reason I say that is because if he doesn’t stand his ground here, the brother would also be at those events. Seeing him and his ex together will tear at old wounds every time he sees them together. It would wreck that man emotionally from the inside out. So, honestly, being truly cut off might not be as bad as that one poster makes it seem.
    And someone else said “suck it up for one day” but it won’t just be one day. Especially if he backs down this time. She’ll keep inviting the brother to events, and he’ll have to relive that trauma over and over again.

    There are some things you just don't do. You can't help who you fall in love with, but you can choose what you do with those feelings. In this case, if I had a brother with a girlfriend who I fell in love with... you know what I'd do? I'd bury those feelings and get over it. Because doing otherwise is a betrayal of family.
    You don't even date ex's of family members for the same reason. Because what happens if you go long term? How awkward would that wedding be? People don't think of the consequences of their actions.

    Here's the thing cheating on him with a friend is one thing but his own brother. That a whole entire new level of betrayal. Family isn't suppose to do you like that. So I completely understand him cutting the ex and his brother out of his life. People assume that just because he has nothing to do with his brother that he hasn't forgiven him. I have forgiven people who did me wrong and I still have nothing to do with them. Ego isn't the problem..The trust is gone. Why should he keep someone who stabbed him in the back in his life. It's about consequences it's about self respect. It's about not associating with someone who would that that to their own flesh and blood. I have brother and never in my life have I ever wanted or had the desire to sleep with their gfs or wives. The moment they together it's not even a thought. So that tells me the brother was twisted asf before she was in the picture.

    My older brother (long story but we refer to him as "Road Kill" and rarely do we refer to him as brother) and I have been NC for a very long time. At least 3 decades. And I've always said that when mom died, he wasn't to be at the funeral. That she would be gone and we would remain so it was up to us who and what was there. She had a saying "if you don't send me flowers when I'm alive, don't send flowers to my funeral". RK rarely sent flowers and used his kids as a weapon against her. But he was her oldest and she maintained his odd connection to him. When she was in hospice, my younger brother (who was also NC with him) and I had a long discussion about it. The conclusion was his best friend who had been in the marines, was still a very strong man, would "guard" me at the funeral, keeping him from approaching me before or after. His strength was not necessary really, it was more about making me feel safe. My brother's family and my wife would ensure RK didn't sit next to me and would intervene if it turned pear shaped. My wife would remain by my side the entire time and promised to punch him if needed. My brother could handle everything himself but I was more emotional about the possible contact. Our plan made me feel safe, mentally and physically. Our plans never impacted the service (a Catholic mass that went on for too long, imo). My stepdad told RK we were having a gathering at bro's house and RK invited himself there. (which pissed off my brother because now RK would know where he lived) Without asking, the family managed to keep us mostly apart the many hours the gathering happened. My bro and I decided to go NC with the stepdad (this wasn't his first stunt). The only good thing to come from it was I got to meet my niece and nephew for the first time.
    My point is, there are usually ways to provide mental and physical safety in these situations. It worked for us. He had some twisted ideas about how the funeral would go (he wanted to play the 'look at me being noble about this' and other similar cards) but he was stopped. He showed up at the gathering but again, he was kept away from me. And my younger bro stopped his attempts toward him, too.

    People are dumb on here. Yall need to realize that it’s easier for the abuser to “get over it” compared to the one being abused. If you can’t understand that then I don’t know how any of you can function. His brother stealing his girlfriend, along with his parents choosing to side with the brother, is unforgivable and that’s a fact. That’s something OP will never get over and can’t get over no matter how much he tries to make a new life. OP has every right to cling on to something so traumatic and betraying and a lot of people don’t seem to understand that. The betrayal didn’t happen to the brother or parents, so of course they can get over it. But not OP.

      In the early days of Reddit (10 to 15 years ago) the stories were real. But not anymore with modern Reddit. It's a business now. People use AI to scan the most popular Reddit stories of the past, and then AI writes a story that is similar.

    1. The daughter did not understand nor respect her father's boundaries, but she learned the hard way. Mike and his wife deserve everything they get, but not their son. Here is a huge move that will help OP move away and end the bitterness of the betrayal that still haunts him: Reach out to his nephew (not his parents) and tell him the whole story, tell him he is the son he never had, then promise to assist him with getting all the relatives there, including Lily. This does not mean he forgives the cheaters, but it would wipe the slate clean for newfound happiness. He can also forge a relationship with his nephew independent of his cheating parents.

  • @Stronghand-yw1lk

    Can he stop his daughter from having a familial relationship with her uncle? No. But on the flip side of that, she has no right to disrespect his wishes and disregard his boundaries by trying to force him to have one! OP is not the asshole here in any way at all.

      @TubeYouViewer12099 5 месяцев назад +2

      @douglaskeyser8584 there are two stories IIRC that are similar.
      The one you reference, where he brings the girl to meet the family and she is banging the brother 8 hours later and the family tells the OP in that one, the brother is happy, the girl is happy, get over it and go find someone else.
      The second (this one) is the scenario where the brother bangs the girl, OP tells the family he wants nothing to do with the brother. Brother marries the ex, have kids. OP is stranged from family. He marries, has daughter and divorces, and drops the bomb that for four years prior to her wedding that she has been in contact with the estranged brother and 1st Ex and planned to have her cousins in the wedding. That ended with comments blasting OP that estarnged brother would win if he (OP) did not show and she let her uncle walk her down the aisle. I don't recall updates from that one. The original was up to the the 1st update.

    People who are overstepping others boundaries always ask for apologies for having boundaries. If your daughter values her uncle so much that he is able to lie for 5 years, clearly he has to be one who walks her down the aisle. And pays for her wedding expenses as well 😂 No? So she's back. That girl lays a red flag too. Pretty manipulative at a young age. The whole family is untrustworthy.

  • @Morindacil
    @Morindacil 5 месяцев назад +3

    This sounds kind of fake to be honest. It's too descriptive i think. And the daughter caved in conveniently the moment the wedding was about to happen. Because aren't a lot of people stubborn to change in real life? Not just that, the updates don't address the people commenting in reddit. It's as if the writer is writing episodic essays once they thought of something to write.

    It feels like there was a chunk missing in the middle of the story. It was like the wedding happened and then boom, it was like a different story! I read a comment below that indicated the daughter’s husband cheated? But that was not included here.

    The more I see these videos and read these stories, the more I understand that there's a good possibility that many of these are AI-generated or written by folks wanting to become authors somewhere down the line. Who talks, in their internal monologue, in such a manner? Not that folks across the world don't know English, but I find it hilarious how these stories don't sound conversational or natural at all!
    But, it's still fun to read these non-fiction and fiction stories ;)

    true or not, and i don't even recall if i commented here, but here the daughter is not only a backstabbing little brat, someone who oversteps boundaries but it's her true reason: she wants to believe is she is some sort of hero, who with her wedding will unite/fix a family, that can't be fixed. Imagine deluding yourself into thinking that a major tragedy in a family can be solved/fixed because of you and ONE event, while you do everything to make the whole worse(in this case: secretly be in contact with OP's brother, and insisting that the brother has to be at the wedding)

  • @redline49
