This video is great. Would it be possible to clarify what you mean when you say “water regularly”. Once a week? Everyday? Every other day? I know it should be about 1-2” inches of water a week but I’m not sure on how often. Thanks!
Watering rate can depend on many factors like weather, pot type, soil mix,... I watered my grow bag daily because fabric pots evaporate lots of water. Plastic containers can be watered every other day. If it is hot, or you see wilted leaves, water more frequently (some days I watered twice a day). Pumpkins have shallow roots so always make sure the soil surface is not dry. In any case, as you said water deeply instead of just sprinkling the surface of the soil. Thank you very much for your comment and Happy Gardening!

It is one plant per container. I just kept one fruit per plant for the sake of this video but you can have more than one. And tomato trellis is an intersting idea. Thank you for your comment and hope you will have a great harvest. Good luck!👍
@@jnjagr7982 In general, I don't recommend more than one pumpkin plants per pot. Instead use smaller pots but grow individually. Pumpkins have shallow roots and will perform best if not planted close to each other. When I plant 2 plants in a pot, I usually get fewer and smaller fruits. You can go as small as 7 gallon grow bags or 14 in wide pots for small variety pumpkins. I hope this helps.
Glad you liked it! Pumpkins grow best in warm weather, when temperature is 85 degrees or above during the day, with about 20-degree drop in nighttime. They can tolerate heat but not cold conditions. I hope this helps. Thank you very much for the comment.
Great video, thank you!! Could you tell me what fertilizer did you use? Last year I got all male flowers no female. I'm going to try again so any advise would be very much appreciated!!!
I used organic 3-4-4 N-P-K fertilizer (Garden-tone). You can use any balanced fertilizer like 5-5-5 (make sure it has calcium or add some garden lime to it). Try to avoid high nitrogen fertilizer; too much nitrogen can prevent flowering. Some other reasons for no female flowers could be: planting too close together, hot or humid weather, and too much or too little watering. Thanks for the comment and good luck!
Some common reasons delaying fruit or female flowers are hot/humid weather, over watering, or too much nitrogen in the soil. Also, feeding your pumpkin with low nitrogen fertilizer will help to get fruit flowers. And when you have fruit flowers, make sure to hand pollinate them. Good Luck
just stumbling on this. Looks like a smaller than-average yield than if planted traditionally but then it also looks like your potted one without the trellis had a very small yield. Very cool and I may still try this.
You sure can have different results depending on the growing condition. For the same variety, I get different yield on different years. The main purpose here is to show the growing process. Thank you very much for your comment!
@@TowardGarden I’m going to give a few a try using this method. I’m on my third year trying to grow kabocha squash. First year I had an amazing yield. Last year - zip 😢 The soil just went to crap last year and it was blazing hot and no amount of watering was enough. This season we are using a new space and I’m also going to try a couple like this. Can’t hurt! I love to mess around with something new and different every year.
@@kimbrown3752 I hear you. I have experienced bad harvests and it can happen to everyone. Gardening is a learning process and we all learn something new each time. Happy growing and thank you for sharing!

Hi, i have a small squash plant. Flowers were budding but mostly male. I had one female flower but will it only get better after pollinating it? Also, what do I do if I only have male flowers? 😔 Thank you!
If the plant is small all you need to do is to wait. As it grows, female flowers will show up. Some common reasons delaying fruit or female flowers are hot/humid weather, over watering, or too much nitrogen in the soil. Also, feeding your pumpkin with low nitrogen and high phosphorus (P) fertilizer will help to get fruit flowers. And when you have fruit flowers, make sure to hand pollinate them. Thank you for visiting and Good Luck!
Hi im growing pumpkin toi and i can say you don't need to germinate them in paper towel first, they are tough plant and it will just alright to put on the soil.Rather, the tiny and dust like small seed are the one who benefit more with the paper towel, also pea seed.they often got mold so you can sort only the healthy sprout before transplanting them into soil
@@TowardGarden love pumpkin seeds also but my favorite pumpkin is actually a squash called KABOCHA and it tastes so sweet. I add it to my stews and beans. I planted a few seeds but not sure I have a green thumb .

Great video! Thank you for sharing, I'm attempting to start pumpkins 🎃 from seed this month and record the progress. They'll be in containers. Any tips on what fertilizer I should use or what compost you used? 😊
Sounds wonderful! This time of the year is perfect to start pumpkins. I usually use tomato and vegetable fertilizers: Garden-tone 3-4-4, Tomato-tone, Jobe's,... I have them listed in my amazon page www.amazon.com/shop/influencer-3dd9a3b6/list/3OOR0YYL58Y0Z?ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ofs_mixed_d . You can check my video on how I make my potting soil where I showed fertilizers and compost I use ruclips.net/video/Xdi9kwEA_X0/видео.htmlsi=FBtxoZYRf8CjBIVv . Also if interested, there are other pumpkin videos on my channel all grown in containers. Hope this helps. Wishing yo great harvest and thank you for much for your comment!🌱😊
Thank you, best video so far in explanation! I planted my first seed 2 weeks ago, however ive only a juliet balcony, can i put it by the window in large vessel as weight issues in balcony?
I usually water seedlings every 2-3 days. Water to keep soil moist but not soggy. Overwatering will cause damping off and kill seedlings. Thanks for reaching out!
Okay so I know that this video was made four months ago but hopefully you can respond. I am currently growing a pumpkin in a pot and it's fairly big. I already have a pumpkin growing (I hand pollinated it) and it's about the size of a tennis ball. As the pumpkin started to get bigger... all the other small female buds turned yellow. I removed them because I didnt want the yellow to spread a disease, is that normal for all the other female buds to rot when growing a pumpkin? My plant isnt "HUGE" so I only wanted one pumpkin to grow so it could put more effort into the ONE pumpkin. Last year I wasnt successful with growing a pumpkin and I really wanted to grow one this year. I'm also using the small sugars. Thank you for your time hopefully you will be able to get back to me.
It looks like you are on the right track. Most likely the small yellow buds are the ones that were pollinated poorely and should have been removed, which you did. They wouldn't mature anyway. I think all is fine with your pumpkin and you will harvest one healthy pumpkin soon. Thank you very much for visiting and good luck!
Just an indirect sunlight, such as a window sill. Do not expose to direct sunlight. Make sure to harden off seedlings (moving out to outside conditions) before planting.
Many thanks for your video! I just started gardening a year ago and have a question regarding the part about complete fertilizer around week ten of this video. What exactly does complete fertilizer mean? I want to be a pro at growing the finest backyard pumpkins in my town! And of course having alot of fun during the learning process Lol! Thanks again! Absolutely love your channel! 🎃🎃
So glad you love the channel. A complete fertilizer has all three elements of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potash (N-P-K) plus calcium which is critical for plants in containers. It is better if it has a balanced ratio like 10-10-10, 5-5-5, or usually for fruit vegetables with a higher ratio of P, K. I usually use 3-4-4. As an easy option, whenever is doubt, you can use any organic tomato fertilizer available. Wishing you a great harvest. Thank you so much for your comment and happy gardening!
For pests damaging leaves such as aphids, cucumber beetles, squash bug, try to monitor the plants and control with the first sign of their presence. I spray Spinosad mix amzn.to/4bekyNx or neem oil mix amzn.to/4bdTE8L when I notice them. Hope this helps and thank you for visiting!
I am guessing they are wilting due to transplant shock, either exposed to too much sun/heat or roots were disturbed. Provide them some shade and keep them well watered until they recover. I hope this helps!
You don't mess with roots for watermelon, pumpkin or beans. Just plant them in the dirt. They grow like assholes so theres no need to start indoors. Trust me on this.
I have one really nice baby punkin. But the rest of them have been shrinking up . I don't know what happened to mine. Your might have wilted because of root shock. They sometimes can't drink water for some reason. Have yours recovered? 😎😎😎💜🔥✨️❤️
I've started a garden and have some pumpkins going for my son. So what do you do with the plant after you harvest, will it come back again next year or do you have to get new plants?
Depending on where you live starting time may be different. Pumpkins prefer a temperature of 70-85F (20-30C) but you can start seeds 3-4 weeks earlier. As a rule of thump, mid May to mid June is a good time to start seeds. Thank you very much for visiting!
I am new at this so my question is, what is the time frames from planting seeds to ready to remove from small pot and plant in large pot the the harvesting time! Also when should we start the seed planting to be able to harvest by Halloween? Thanks and great video!
Pumpkins can be planted when soil temperature is at 70-85 F. Depending on where you live, you can start seeds 3-4 weeks earlier. As a rule of thump, mid May to mid June is a good time to start seeds. If you start in June you will have pumpkins ready by Halloween. Happy gardening and thank you very much for visiting!
I want year round pumpkins. My idea is to grow them indoors in a continuous planting and harvesting cycle using led lights and hand pollination. Is that possible?

Try to avoid high nitrogen fertilizer; too much nitrogen can prevent flowering. Some other reasons for no female flowers could be: planting too close together, hot or humid weather, and too much or too little watering. Thanks for the comment and good luck!
@@TowardGarden Thank you so very much!!!
I have alot of blooms but no pumpkins starting yet . What should I be doing
Good Luck
@@TowardGarden Thank You So very much . I will do my best . They look healthy .
Very helpful post
@@vz9226 Glad to be of any help. Thank you very much for your comment😊
just stumbling on this.
I love the pumpkin ❤
We love pumpkins too 😊💚 Thank you so much for your comment!
@TowardGarden Can you plant pumpkin seeds directly in a large pot?
I like the vidéo ❤️
@@ChatNoir-d6d you sure can. Just sow extra seeds just in case they don't germinate. Happy growing!

@@TowardGarden thank you so much for your wonderful suggestions!
@@HangDoSomething Glad to be of any help!😊
Hi im growing pumpkin toi and i can say you don't need to germinate them in paper towel first, they are tough plant and it will just alright to put on the soil.Rather, the tiny and dust like small seed are the one who benefit more with the paper towel, also pea seed.they often got mold so you can sort only the healthy sprout before transplanting them into soil
Well I did both and both work, so sow in any way suits you. Thank for your comment.
Outstanding video. many thanks!!

What month did you start planting the seeds
I started mid May.
Thanks for the comment!
How long did it take from planting to harvesting?
From seed to harvest ~15 weeks.
From transplanting in pots to harvest ~12 weeks. Thanks for reaching out.
Thanks for responding 👌

So do I .I love eating pumpkin and the seed also
@@TowardGarden love pumpkin seeds also but my favorite pumpkin is actually a squash called KABOCHA and it tastes so sweet.

Wishing yo great harvest and thank you for much for your comment!🌱😊
wonderful video, thanks!
Love to hear it. Thank you so much!
Thank you, best video so far in explanation! I planted my first seed 2 weeks ago, however ive only a juliet balcony, can i put it by the window in large vessel as weight issues in balcony?
Glad to hear it. yes you can, specially if the window gets 6-8 hours of sunlight, . Happy growing and thank you so much for your comment!
How often do you water seedlings? Thanks
I usually water seedlings every 2-3 days. Water to keep soil moist but not soggy. Overwatering will cause damping off and kill seedlings. Thanks for reaching out!
@@TowardGarden thanks for responding!
@@TowardGarden thank you!❤
Thank you!!
My pleasure. Thank you so much for visiting😊
The seeds you sow in the container, were put in the sun? I know some seeds like carrot don't need the sun to germinated, how about pumpkins?
Just an indirect sunlight, such as a window sill. Do not expose to direct sunlight. Make sure to harden off seedlings (moving out to outside conditions) before planting.
@@TowardGarden Thank you very much!
What about outside in a container (large one) semi sun as well?
Wonderful👍
Thanks!

does the plant die off after producing pumpkins?
Yes. Pumpkins are ready to harvest when plants have almost died back. Thank you for visiting!
I like mini pumpkins better than big one
Mini pumpkins are easier to grow and don't need much space. Great choice. Thanks for the comment!
Nah i love both including cucchini and the butternut types.

How do you keep the squash bugs from taking over?
For pests damaging leaves such as aphids, cucumber beetles, squash bug, try to monitor the plants and control with the first sign of their presence. I spray Spinosad mix amzn.to/4bekyNx or neem oil mix amzn.to/4bdTE8L when I notice them. Hope this helps and thank you for visiting!
@@TowardGarden Thank you for the recommendations!
in week 10 they where like watermalons
I planted some pumpkin seeds, but when I transferred them they began wilting. Did I do something wrong?
I am guessing they are wilting due to transplant shock, either exposed to too much sun/heat or roots were disturbed. Provide them some shade and keep them well watered until they recover. I hope this helps!
Thank you. I moved them to a more shaded area.
You don't mess with roots for watermelon, pumpkin or beans. Just plant them in the dirt. They grow like assholes so theres no need to start indoors. Trust me on this.
@@FatNebraskaMom🤣 I agree with you!!!!
Pumpkins do not come back next year. You harvest pumpkins when plants have almost died back.
Wishing you a great harvest!
@@TowardGarden thank you so much!
Can you kindly Include when to start sowing seeds? Thank you!!!
Depending on where you live starting time may be different. Pumpkins prefer a temperature of 70-85F (20-30C) but you can start seeds 3-4 weeks earlier. As a rule of thump, mid May to mid June is a good time to start seeds. Thank you very much for visiting!
When you put the seeds in the container, did you put them in the fridge
No. I keep the seeds in room temperature. Thanks for visiting!
Ok thanks for replying
Pumpkins need a lot of sun to grow and mature good size fruits. I haven't tried and am not sure if you can grow pumpkins using LED lights. Hope they turn out great and thank you for visiting.
@@TowardGarden I planted two pumpkin seeds to see if it'll work. But I'm still doubting bc idk if led lights are enough for pumpkins.
