In the beginning of this video, I replace the worn out keychain ferro rod with a new one... Bear this in mind as you watch... The scraper can not remove as much material off the round sides of the new rod as it was removing from the flat sides of the old rod. As the new rod wears it will shower many more sparks.

Great video bud! I had a question , would you say that bayite is a hard or soft ferro rod?

bayite makes great fero rods and are usually the least expensive (on Ebay at least). A piece of advice for those buying one, always get them with pre-drilled holes for a lanyard. It makes them much easier to handle with a keyring in them. The 6" x 1/2" are only $10-$12 shipped and work as good as any other brand you can name. The striker is really the key for fero rods, IMO. Firesteel.com's Super Striker works great and is small enough to carry on a keychain. Thanks David - you are the go-to fire guy!

Keep the knife still and pull the rod. You punch the leafs everytime you try to start the fire. Especially with a small rod. But when you pull the rod you are protecting the kindling from rain and wind.

Shave a small pile of the ferro rod into the leaves and then spark it up. It will have the same effect as a pile of magnesium shavings.

I used 6 different scrapers at 5 different locations with 5 different tinders to make 6 plus-ish fires.
    1) bayite KcFR and my Stanley 10-049 pocket knife to ignite leaves.
    2) bayite KcFR and Stainless Mora Companion to ignite underwear.
    3) bayite KcFR and glass to ignite Pine Needles.
    4) bayite KcFR and Old Hickory Butcher Knife - ignite Pine Needles
    5) bayite KcFR and Victorinox Fieldmaster, SAK, to ignite fatwood.
    6) bayite KcFR and Chert to ignite 3 cotton balls separately.
Come watch this incredible, fire starting, keychain ferro rod SHOW OUT! Please SUBSCRIBE at the end of the video. Thanks!

They have the right combination of hardness and softness. Mine doesn't develop ridges like the hard ones do, but is still soft enough to allow for a lot of material to be scraped away.

Thanks David. I am about to buy my first ferro rod and those bayite rods are a great deal, but I would like to be able to do a short, pushcut style strike near the tip of the rod for control. Are those bayite rods hard enough? I can’t make up my mind between hard or soft rods. Peace.

I love that I found where you grabbed these rods but they don't ship to Canada and these ones are pennies compared to Amazon.ca prices...how would one acquire one or two of these? They want basically $60.00 for one that's 1/2-5inch and I can't justify paying that when you get 3 for less then $13.00 bucks...any suggestions?
