"not gonna go out buy these all at once ya can't do that."
"Hold my beer"
"But Honey, I had to buy these knives. They're educational tools."
My version is, "IT'S FOR SIZE COMPARISONS!!!"
"don't worry babe, I traded for it."
@@SliceyDicey That's what she said! :)
👍👍👍 Good points all. When I first got into modern folds (from Swizz army, leatherman, Buck), was a benchmade. Love the fidget action and still do, now the access lock looks cheap (just me).
After over a 100 plus knifes, by over 20 makers/manufactures, this is what (some of) I've found:
Know your handle grip area- small to XXL all have a 4 finger or 3 finger grip area that makes for a comfortable knife that makes it enjoyable to use. Best way is to cut something (cardboard, rope and wood) for 10 to 30 minutes and you'll know.
Pocket clips and carry (tip up, tip down, left or right).
Opening types: thumb studs, flipper, hole, both or nail nick. To each his own liking
Blade steel, shapes and grinds: try, cutting with 440 until dull, than M390, know what meets what you use a knife for. For some, hard use is cutting apples and opening envelopes, others cutting up a 100 boxes, whittling walking sticks or cutting an over grown hiking trail. Learn the difference between toughness, edge retention and corrosion.
Learn the lock types, strong enough for your use or fidget enjoyments. Back locks are strong, but your not going to one hand open and close it a 100 times in a minute. A Chris Reeves knife is smooth but it's not going to have the quick action of a ball bearing ZT, Kizer, WE or Reate knife. Strong and weak blade detent, free fall, lock up and blade play.
Bearing types: Plastic, phosphorous-bronze, steel bearing, ceramic bearings, all have their place for the user.
Handle materiel's: Wood, aluminium, Titanium, Stainless, G10, Micarta, carbon fiber, smooth, grippy, just to name a few.
Pocket weight and pocket space. Each person has a weight and bulk that they are willing to put up with.
Legal for where you live or are going.
I love the blurple PM2. Hoping to be able to afford a PM2 left handed exclusive some day soon.
New to your channel. Love the list. You mentioned some great knives in there and I do agree. I am new to collecting. Great job.👍
Thanks for the video! One of the most entertaining knife videos I have seen recently!
Cool looks like I'm on the right track. I already have a lot of these and others on my wish list.
Fellow knife enthusiast in NY here. Love your vids.
thx for your great list and advice
keep it up
...very nice...you have to have a Buck 110, just because :-) ....have a great week...
Good point! Handled a lot. Haven't owned one. Probably should.
I've been lucky as well with all my Benchmades, all pristine dead center drop smooth. Agree with most of the knives you suggested :)
Awesome there are definitely some I would like to handle at some point.
Everybody needs to experience the Cold Steel Espada XL. The sheer size of it gets so many WTF looks when you pull it out and I freaking love it
I think I can live without that experience.
Got to own a Recon 1, bomb proof...I actually like the code 4 size a little better.
Picked up another Recon1 in XHP for $84. Spear/drop point.(from eCop on ebay- they are legit)
So they are still out there. Great value when compared to the Delica.
Sliceman- Some excellent choices. None that I would argue with. Great vid.
Seriously, you are very right!
Cool video. Lots of great options to consider at various price point. Also always nice to see others appreciate similar knives like the dividend, delica, roundhead and 940 (just to name a few). Slowly approaching that point in my collection where a small CR knife could be somewhere in my future. The one knife in that group that I’ve never had the opportunity to at least handled in some way shape or form.
I infinitely prefer the larger CRK's for my hand size. (Large size gloves)
Good list you have here.
A loud yes on the Ruike, and I have my first steel will coming based off your review. The Intrigue
You’ll like the Intrigue.
Slicey Dicey Ihope so i bought 2. One to do a review of and the other as a possible giveaway. Wasn't sure what color i liked better so ill keep the one i like lol.
If you're doing classic/iconic knives, just seems to me a Buck 110 (at least on a trial basis!) is a must!
Great video, I was wondering this a few weeks ago when I was gonna buy a premium or several budget offerings. Pulled the trigger on a pm2, now I know what all the fuss is about.
ThisIsAPrettyLongUserNameWhyTheFuckWouldHeDoThatSoThatEveryoneWouldThumbsUpIt - wait till you get a Manix 2, even better than the PM2 imho.....
Damen0530 it was a toss up between those 2, how is edge retention on the bd1?
Great video, been there done that👍🏻
Great video! And for the bucket list, I'm gonna have to get a custom knife. Watched Doctor Frunkey's video on a Peter Rassenti Small Satori and that just did it. Yup. It's not even a choice.
Code 4 are great blades as well, carry nice in the pocket. Just wish the handles had a little bit of traction for grip.
After watching your video, I feel very good about my collection right now... I have a steel will cutjack, Ruike P801-SF, Cold Steel Recon 1, Delica4, ZT 0562CF, ZT 0452CF.
But yea... I do need a benchmade, maybe a PM2 or something, and I'm eye-ing your Sebenza right now haha
Not. Too. Shabby, my friend.
Brian, that's a number 43! And I just got my first sebenza today. There wasn't any magical OMG moment, but I really like it so far and it's growing on me the more and more I use it. Can't wait to take it apart for the first time, I think that will probably be when it really clicks in my head! Great video as always.
I can’t never keep those numbers straight... and yes... the Sebenza creeps up on you. Not impressive at first. Give it a few weeks. I did sell mine this morning but I’ll get an Inkosi for sure.
EDC with Aaron Review on the way???
Send your Sebenza into the Apostle P for sharpening and spa service, which will include polishing the washers. It made a noticeable difference in the action for mine.
Good stuff Brian.
Nice presentation.
Still prefer the manix to the para 2.
The military (s110v) is a must have.
I love fantoni hb01 in m390 too.
I'm now looking for spyderco amalgam.
I'm just starting out and watching a lot of reviews before I start collecting knives. I don't have a lot of money to spend on this right now but I've definitely caught the bug. I'm not really sure what I'm going to buy as my first EDC. In tend to like the bigger blades, assisted opening or bearings, and I don't care for lock back styles. Any suggestions? Thank you for your reviews. Justin.
Great video.
Edge retention is ok, depending on how much you use it. S30v is a bit better, but that's the best thing- you can always upgrade.
Oh and also have steel will cutjack and m390 and the Northwoods on the way... Can't wait! Trading can be fun, but definitely always a risk. I've gotten a few Duds lately that I regretted quite a bit.
Robin 2 from the spyderco Byrd line. 25-30$ budget steel spyderco Dragonfly, but better ergos. Edges are a lip rough, but the knife is solid
Very cool vid.. have al except 3.. the coldsteel, the benchmade and the sebenza... oh wait.. nope.. cant wait. Thank you for not just the awsome content.. But the chance for guys like me to gain "experince" (buying your stuff).. as well as knowlege. Keep m comming
Ramon Versteeg You buying the Sebenza? Cool! I'd like to get one some day. Congrats. Good to know the provenance too!
I progressed through low end quality Chinese (Real Steel and Ruike), then bit the bullet and when into ZT (I have 4 models), then progressed onto Real Steel S class (I have 4 models), then finally Reate (I have 4 models) and WE (I have 3 models) and to be honest have settled on Reate, Reate is my favorite, top of the line production knives, though expensive they are well worth it. Not interested in Spyderco or BM as they don't do a decent flipper (I only collect flippers now), CRK are IMHO over priced and again no real innovation (or flipper models), they just do the same old s30v/s35vn ti thumb stud folder and lastly am finding it hard to go back to the 'budget' lines.
All the Spyderco knives look there the handle to blade ratio is off, like the blade could be longer and still fit the handle.
Good choice. From Spyderco the PM2 is their flagship. But personally the Slytz Bowie and Techno are my favorites. From Chris Reeve the Sebenza 21 (Small or large) and the Large Inkosi. The Mnandi for going to the office. The Benchmade 940 is a classic. The RAT 1 and 2 in D2 steel are the best budget performers. By the way, that traditional in the video is a GEC #43 Trapper with smooth bone scales. Love the LionSteel Roundhead and shuffler (clip point) in M390. I don’t buy unknown Chinese knives because you never know what you’re gonna get. Better to save the pennies for something good. Great choice. Love your reviews and videos. When I’ve gone to Europe I just take a GEC #78 traditional. In London people are paranoid about knives. Also in Germany and France. Italy is more knife friendly. Enjoy your trip. ⚔️
I'm taking my Zipslip and my Three Rivers Viator to Germany. I took a SOG Terminus last time.
Slicey Dicey Good choice!
Top three must have for any collection: Dan Viper no1. the Spyderco Manix and any gec.
I actually SLIGHTLY prefer the Manix to PM2 but I think as an experience and just to say you had one, the PM2 takes it.
While everyone uses the Delica as a standard, I just can't seem to get past that "bird-head" design on the blade. That may be why I'll never own one. Other than that, can't argue with you. I look forward to the day I get my first Benchmade 940.
Good list!
No SAK though? Seems to me that everyone should have a stint in the Swiss Army.
I made the list kind of just already assuming that you've had one if you're beginning to collect.
That Benchmade 940-1 is my grail knife. I need to save up for a long time til I can get one of those.
If you can have only one 940, it's the one for sure.
From what I've been seeing, it's the way to go. It's just so far outside the price range of anything I've ever bought.
You know you fuck with knives when your hands have precise level scars all over them 🤣
Did you see the blue handled with black DLC blade benchmade proper?
I did! Not into DLC though.
That GEC is the 43. Great video!
Yeah yeah... I can’t keep the numbers straight. Same principle applies though. Gotta have one GEC. Doesn’t matter what it is really.
Protech. You need to try a Protech :)
Cool talk Bryan. You could do some vids on knife 'culture/community' in Germany when you're there.
I'll be doing some Vlogs while I'm there. I'm with my wife, so probably not much knife culture. I am going to at least one outdoors/knife shop while I'm there, though.
And you forgot to come back to getting an automatic knife.. if its legal in your area. 👍👍👍🗡🗡🗡
And don't forget everyone needs a Z-HUNTER. 🤣🤣🤣😂😂
Good points. I do have two autos but I didn’t put them in the list since they are illegal in my area. Legal to own but not to carry. I have a Boker Kalashnikov and a Benchmade 9050. And I do have a Z-Hunter but I “messed up” and got one of the expensive $10 ones lol.
Slicey Dicey ha ha ha. I got my eye on a protech magic. Looks like a great knife...
Sent my Z-HUNTER to Shabazz and had it signed. 👍👍👍👍
Where can you even buy a Z hunter..
a Michael Morris.... that would be nice!
I've been on a mission to get at least 1 offering from every knife company this past month plan on buying 1 every week or 2 just to experience all of what the knife world has to offer. The only problem is picking one it's been hard to decide.
Chris Howard That's is a long term goal for me as well but some of the major high ends will probably be off the table for some time.
Blade Banter Same here. I'm going by price mostly starting at the lower end and working my way up the ladder. Need to expand my horizons some there's many major brands I've never even tried, should be fun! Good luck on your quest. 👍
Chris Howard What's the best budget knife so far? Smoothes for me has been my CH3001 and CRKT Tighe Tac Two.
Blade Banter idk if you could really call it budget I got it for about 50 bucks but the Real Steel Megalodon is awesome ball bearings d2 it's a great knife for the price also impressed by the more common ones like the modus and cutjack in d2 also. I usually buy higher end knives but I carry these 3 a lot since I got them.
Nice video but where’s the American Lawman 😂I recently purchased one because of that song that I couldn’t get out of my head. I was lucky because i got the cts xhp Version
I prepared poorly and didn't have it within reach. I must never be forgiven. And curses to Baz!!! That song has been in my head for a week!
Benchmade 940 is way up there on my next to purchase
O4 HEMI
Check out the Knife works exclusive 940 it’s layered black and blue G10 with blue barrel back spacers and 20cv steel
Cark Nelson yea I would stick with the black g10 and s30v that blue is a bit flashy for my taste
Love that zt 0609, if you ever sell it let me know man
Don't hold your breath... ;) I need to keep at least on ZT in my collection and this is my favorite.
Slicey Dicey can't blame you there 🤙
If I knew what I know now when I started collecting, my collection would be significantly different now.
There's a certain kind of satisfaction you get when a youtuber pulls out the knife you are currently fidgeting with.
That's because we can see you.
Nice list. I don't think the Delica belongs there anymore because of its price. Even in it own brand the Endura and the Chaparral are better values. How come you didn't include a Buck knife in your traditionals? Keep up the good work and it's time for a new podcast!
Only didn't include a Buck because I don't have one.
You left out some of the small fixed blades that are as easy to carry as the folders.
My city is very iffy about fixed blades.
Shame on them. How about kitchen knives? Will they invade the steak houses and imprison everyone? I have two fixed blade EDC that have two inch blades but I guess I'll have to be careful in your city. Which city is it ? "When the government fears the people there is liberty, when the people fear the government there is tyranny." Thomas Jefferson.
Very comprehensive. But no WE knives represented ?
I am intrigued by the roundhead. . . . And yes, I agree with JCB 67, 'you have to have a Buck 110, just because'
There was a WE! The new Minitor! I love that thing!
That teaches me to comment on a review when I am half asleep..hehe >.
It'd be helpful to see a list of these... can't always make out what you say and it's quicker than searching through the whole video... "What was that Chinese company that made the... ?"
A little Slicey-Dicey on the right index finger?
:(
No front flippers... ouch
Just getting into them. I have a Real Steel Metamorph that I really like.
that’s funny, i had a link in my pocket
Lou Ciamillo Or were you just happy to see the video? 😉
If that ZT is considered plain then I must have the most boring taste ever. That looks fancy to me.
Plain "for a ZT"
Why doesn’t anyone like the griptilian anymore?
I was kind of expecting a Griptilian, but I suppose they're just boring, solid, dependable work knives these days.
You forgot the opinel!
Yeah... I meant to put it in with the traditional part.
Ha! First view.
Retired knife dealer. Like the video and the comments like those of Mr. Jenkins.
any knife person should have an opinel
Agreed. That one was a total omission on my part.
Knife laws lol ... Sometimes I forget we aren't the land of the free
