Yes she is the only person who can incite a revolution after the last one failed but besides her sister he is the only one that gives her faith in what humanity could be like and a future to look forward to. The (SPOILER) children they have will live a free and happy life because her defiance and insistence to save Peeta.
She stood by him when they tortured and brainwashed him into rebuking her on broadcast because she knew his heart and despite how they brainwashed him, somewhere stashed inside him was an instinct was to protect her. While everyone wants to take a part of her, he wants to protect and cherish what she shows him. I find that beautiful that he doesn’t have expectations and doesn’t try to put her into a box like he just wants to be there with her. Unlike a certain.. gale.

An important thing about Katniss and Peeta is that at the time the books came out, their relationship was a really big shift from what the dynamic had been in previous YA romances, with a lot of Alpha guys and emotional girls at the centre. Katniss is better at things like physical fighting and survival than Peeta, while Peeta understands people and has more emotional intelligence. She rescues him from physical danger, but he rescues her by keeping her sane when she's hearing her sister's voice and reminding her of her strengths. It's a really nice switch up of traditionally "masculine" and "feminine" qualities, and while it's much more common now, it's one of the things that makes their dynamic so special!

What I love is that both characters are strong and brave…and competent in their own way. I really love when female characters are depicted as strong but also allowed to have vulnerabilities and to depend on others for help and support. I also really love how Peeta was never emasculated or depicted as somehow less than for not being as good at fighting as Katniss.

    • @cloverheart5756
      @cloverheart5756 Год назад +82

It’s a great moment but it’s not really character development, Finnick was lying when he said that. All the victors are friends and cre about each other, including Haymitch even though the movies don’t do a good job at showing how upset Haymitch was with all his friends being in the arena. Plus even so, he wasn’t talking about Mags when he said that anyway. We’re told from the beginning that Mags is Finnick’s weakness because she’s his mentor who raised him and he’ll do everything to protect her. Katniss just doesn’t believe it and assumes that he wouldn’t when it came down to it. So it’s not really character development, it’s just him showing who he actually is

Of all the characters, Effie has the most development.
Exhibit A: Look at her outfit. In the first movie and most of this one, it was all powdered faces, metallic lipstick and outlandish outfits.
Here in the next ceremony, it's just a simple butterfly dress with natural looking makeup.
Because THAT'S the influence Katniss and Peeta had on her. Touring with them made her come around to actually LIKING them, not just for the sake of her job.
Exhibit B: The look on her face. Before she was more than happy to announce the tributes. Now? She's crushed, because this is the first time the tribute is someone she cares about.
So much development in these two movies alone.

This is SUCH a fun one to re-watch/re-read (and I'm sure you got this feeling editing it) because you can watch Plutarch Heavensbee play EVERYONE...
    - "you inspired me to come back" to the games!?
    - in the book, he has a gold watch with a Mockingjay on it (all of their team has a gold item to unite them, and of course the Mockingjay is Katniss' symbol)
    - Heavensbee stopping the arena from spinning after Katniss falls in but before she get's seriously injured/dies
    - EVERY time snow proposes something to him, Heavensbee just looks so suspicious haha
This film is honestly TOP TIER.

In the book there are a lot of tributes that signed up for the rebellion. So they all agreed to protect/save Katniss. But Haymitch said that they have to keep Peeta save bcoz that's the only way Katniss will cooperate. So they all basically agreed to do everything even unalive if necessary, to save them for the rebellion. I wish I can read the books for the first time again coz I was shook when this was revealed bcoz Katniss didn't even realize and there's now more blood on her hands even though she didn't ask for any of it.

In the books it was more understandable how peeta was more in need of protecting, in katniss’ eyes he was the better out of the two of them, he had his leg amputated at the end of the first games so that’s why he couldn’t keep up, and he hated to kill unless necessary. He was great with words and could turn on the charm for the public. He had an abusive mother yet was willing to suffer to help others out.
His needing to be saved many times in the movies didn’t match as much since he had both legs, but that meant we saw him much more on par to protect katniss physically and not just emotionally. It’s terrible what happens to him, but dw it’s a good ending... considering.
Gale isn’t a bad person, he’s just not good for Katniss. He’s too angry and similar to her. She needs a lover not a fighter.

She volunteered to go into the games so the other tribute from 4 (that district I would love to know more about but it's fishing-based economy, and they also only had three winners like Katniss, Peeta and Haymitch). So the three of them were a family. The other girl, Annie, went crazy with PTSD after her games, so she was protecting her from having to go back to volunteer in her 80s).
I'm really hoping there is a sequel to the prequel novel (is that a thing?), Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, because the next year would be Mags' Hunger Games.

I don't dislike Gale; he just doesn't match up to Peeta. But when we're not comparing the two and just look at each of them as individuals in their own right, he's not exactly a _bad_ person. His views are a little on the extreme side, but that's totally understandable for somebody in his situation.
Regarding Peeta's value to the revolution: in the books, it's really interesting how Katniss views herself. She sees her own popularity as being Peeta's doing. In her mind, it was Peeta that made the people like her.
She's partly right. He has a lot more natural charm than she does. And the "baby" thing, in particular, was a stroke of genius on Peeta's part. In general, he's really good at charming people, and he used that charm primarily for her sake. But she undervalues the things she did that really touched people, that had nothing to do with Peeta. I believe the real thing that made her the face of the revolution in the first place was her reaction to Rue's death, for example. Seeing a child who died in the Games actually being _mourned_ by somebody from a different district was what broke the dam. And then the berries (forcing the Gamemaker's hands) was entirely her idea as well.
