Yes and no, the responsible for that Cesare Mori aka the "Iron Prefect", was removed from his position when he began to hunt big fishes: church exponents, fascist members etc. He really gave to the mafia a taste of their own medicine, check for that. Sadly those results were not seen again, thanks also to the facts mentioned in this video.

More precisely, in Italy a prefect is the local representative of the Minister of the interior and has competence on public security, passport releasing etc... Cesare Mori was an extraordinary prefect, so he had more powers than a "ordinary" perfect.

Interesting story indeed. By the way Lucky Luciano was so influential that he had a church built at prison, and the church altar was constructed with the very doors from Ferdinand Magellan's ship "Victoria" which was the first ship to successfully go around the Earth.

LuigiN64 it’s actually not far from the truth. There was a political party in Sicily known as the Party of Reconstruction that campaigned for Sicily to become an American state in 1944.
@@kurousagi8155 The Movimento Unionista Italiano was a movement that campaigned to make Italy a part of the USA and then convince others countries to do the same. It never gained popular support, in Sicily it had little succes while in the national elections it gained a mere 0.3%
