Kevin, being registered in PA as Republican or Democrat does not mean you're voting this way in the general election. If you want to vote in the primaries in PA, you will need to register as Republican or Democrat, for which party you then can vote in the primaries. It is pretty common to sign up for the other party to influence who becomes front runner in the opposing party. So Thomas might have been voting Democrat in the general elections, but wanted to vote on the Republican ballot in the primaries.
The kid was 20, and hadn’t even voted in a presidential election yet (i.e. was 18, only 2 years ago), it was also reported he registered as a Republican back in 2022. He also made a $15 donation to a Progressive Democratic group. So it’s really not apparent what his political beliefs were.

I’m speculating…… But he probably found and joined some online community which made him feel inclusive. He wanted to be the community’s hero for recognition and glorification and took it upon himself to commit this tragedy. I’m NOT for the government actively tracking our online activity but they should try to trace his online fingerprint, I have a feeling it will reveal a lot. This isn’t just a “he randomly snapped incident” it was a political hate crime and there is a group somewhere he was a part of. When I was younger I worked with kids that had behavior problems and the older teens tended to have similar relationships in school as the shooter Thomas; bullied, loaners, smart but poor social skills. Some of the teens would hop on random discords during their breaks and the things that were said on those discord channels and how these kids would try to please random strangers that called them “friends” was concerning. I can’t imagine what’s going on in some other platforms or discord channels, but I can see how an outcast can be manipulated by a group of strangers, that they’re trying to get the approval. A person I know well who suffers from depression and suicide made it clear to me how important friends are to them, yet their social challenges make friendship difficult to obtain. The loneliness is what eats their soul. They desire nothing but a close trusting friend! I’ve partly been that friend to them and usually their condition improves, but I need to take care of my own life, so at times this person must manage on their own. It’s during these times that they start losing hope with friends and their depression and suicide thoughts come back stronger than ever. I believe as you do, i.e. there’s no way you just snap and unleash your wrath on the former and potential future president unless it was already your goal to kill him. This goal couldn’t have grown out of thin air. There has to be tracks and the tracks can likely be found in whatever he spent time with to relieve his pain, whether it be a community or something else.

Probably the biggest tragedy in American politics is the two party system. It seems to narrow the views people hold on people who don't share the same political ideology. A person I know well who suffers from depression and suicide made it clear to me how important friends are to them, yet their social challenges make friendship difficult to obtain. The loneliness is what eats their soul. They desire nothing but a close trusting friend! I’ve partly been that friend to them and usually their condition improves, but I need to take care of my own life, so at times this person must manage on their own. It’s during these times that they start losing hope with friends and their depression and suicide thoughts come back stronger than ever.
I believe as you do, i.e. there’s no way you just snap and unleash your wrath on the former and potential future president unless it was already your goal to kill him. This goal couldn’t have grown out of thin air. There has to be tracks and the tracks can likely be found in whatever he spent time with to relieve his pain, whether it be a community or something else.

I'm a centrist living in a fairly conservative state. Sure, I'm not a Trump fan. I'd likely vote red in some elections. I don't consider my political leanings as part of some monolith. Probably the biggest tragedy in American politics is the two party system. It seems to narrow the views people hold on people who don't share the same political ideology. Even people of the same party. They just assume that everyone thinks like they do, and other think the opposite on issues as they do. Which isn't true. Not everyone is a single issue voter. Anymore politics feels like professional sports and not about being an American. Some people pick their guy and that's their guy no matter what.
