Well Richard Madeley, despite being a Neocon in the past, is an intelligent old school journalist who only woke up when he quit daytime TV and was an outsider looking in.
Never been a fan of RM but I give him full marks for sticking at his line of questioning. I am afraid our new Secretary of War is an immature, "common purpose" tosspot.
This fop clearly is out of his depth how can a cabinet minister use such blatantly bad manners when dealing with another govt. It shows a woeful immaturity and it shows May didn't do her homework when appointing this prick. Also its rare for me to see anyone , except UK column mention common purpose, a nefarious political movement. Excellent.
Has to start sometime...the MSM have been mealy mouthed stenographers for the politicians long enough. I don't particularly like Madeley but what he did was good for the public and good for journalism.
This interview removed shame from the UK people, for a government official is the voice of the people and when an official degrades another nation's people, he shames and degrades his own people.
He could not of done it to a better person, the disdain and contempt displayed by this 'elite' was disgraceful. Richard has risen sharply in my estimations, he forcefully challenges authority, somethjng all interviewers should do but to our detriment don't. Kudos
What a demonstration of how interviewers should respond to wilfully evasive Government spokespersons ! This video is worth watching for the range of evasive technique used by the "Defence Secretary: "When asked a question answer the one you just thought up to evade the original question." But when that sole tool in the toolbox didn't work we were treated to an array of reactive camera shots with an emotional range of 0 to 1 into which you could read the history of his early education, his class socialisation and his contempt for the very process of public accountability via the media. And the elephant strolling into the last shot. Priceless. All that was missing was a close-up of the elephant steamily defecating.
Of course he was right to end the interview! I'm sick of politicians blowing and blustering! They are meant to represent British people first and foremost! I wish they would instead of doing anything but!
Yes he was and I admire him for that. Richard is right that politicians have become so arrogant and skilled at NOT answering questions (they use a large amount of NLP speaking techniques) that it is time we ended this cosy relationship. That being said it is one thing for the MSM to get all brave and cocky regarding the Skripols/Russia now and pretend to be doing hard nosed interviews and asking 'searching' questions but where was this kind of brave analysis/criticism prior to the UK using the Skripols/Russia as some kind of strange pretext to drop bombs on Syria? When, now, even the UN inspectors have found no evidence that Assad used chemical weapons and there are increasing amounts of information that point to all this Skripol business being a complete hoax. A convenient pretext to paint Russia and Assad as evil people, when actually they are not nearly as bad as they are/were reported as such. Those of us who stay away from MSM and use alternative sources of information were already well aware of all the holes in the government lie and concocted drivel. After Blair and WMDs we were apologised to by the MSM again and again as they promised to be more critical of government spin and official government evidence. We were told that the media would be far more probing, far more cynical of this kind of thing in the future, because they realised thay had got it wrong, that they had played a big part in aiding Blair and his fabrication of WMDs and the needless deaths of our armed forces because of a lie.. Yet, as soon as the Skripol/Russia/Syria axis broke, there they were jumping on the band wagon, being all blindly jingoistic and swallowing the rubbish that was being fed to them. There were alternative voices such as George and the ex ambassador Peter Ford who were warning against antagonising Russia and to look at this information very critically and cynically as it just didn't add up. It's one thing to be brave after the event but they need to be doing this before, during and after if they really want to be impartial, honest and trustworthy.
Brian Gerrish, Patrick Henningsen, Mike Robinson, Ian R Crane, Richie Allen, Mark Windows, Jimmy Church, Heinrich Palmgren No serving politician would EVER EVER EVER go on their shows
Don't be fooled by Chomsky, One of the most persistent themes in Noam Chomsky’s work has been class warfare. He has frequently lashed out against the “massive use of tax havens to shift the burden to the general population and away from the rich” and criticized the concentration of wealth in “trusts” by the wealthiest 1 percent. The American tax code is rigged with “complicated devices for ensuring that the poor-like 80 percent of the population-pay off the rich.” But trusts can’t be all bad. After all, Chomsky, with a net worth north of $2,000,000, decided to create one for himself. A few years back he went to Boston’s venerable white-shoe law firm, Palmer and Dodge, and, with the help of a tax attorney specializing in “income-tax planning,” set up an irrevocable trust to protect his assets from Uncle Sam. He named his tax attorney (every socialist radical needs one!) and a daughter as trustees. To the Diane Chomsky Irrevocable Trust (named for another daughter) he has assigned the copyright of several of his books, including multiple international editions. Chomsky favors the estate tax and massive income redistribution-just not the redistribution of his income. No reason to let radical politics get in the way of sound estate planning.
Dan, I agree. Chomsky is the type of ideologue that arguably has had a negative effect in the halls of higher learning. Jordan Peterson to the rescue. :)
Gavin Williamson just comes across as simple. It's incredible to think he is where he is so he's obviously got friends in high places because I wouldn't trust him to make the tea.
Excellent Richard you made him look sooooo silly, cannot be accountable for his own words very childish and MOREOVER DANGEROUS for a individual to even be in office.
I know someone who was a student on a media course. One of the Scottish Govt Ministers visited and she asked if she could interview her. Despite being a mere student, she was GIVEN the question she could ask, and the Minister presented a pre-prepared answer!!!!!
Of course he was right to end the interview and, as George Galloway stated, if more of our media took politicians to task, directly and unequivocally, then ironically we'd all be much better informed The problem, however, is that change is very slow. People in America often ask me if I think there'll be change in the UK and US anytime soon and I always say the same thing....regardless of some of the personalities we've got calling for change, the time-frame for change will actually be around 200 years from now. I've calculated, by looking at historical events, how things evolve and what the situation's like now, and Capitalism, flawed foreign policy and the basic tenets of greed which dominate life today, will be gone but not for another 200 years.
Mardeley is King! Wonderful to watch his dismissal of little Gavin. He was the one who was "shut up and had to go away". Wish more obfuscating MPs were treated in such a way. Don't they realise just how ridiculous and deceitful avoiding answers makes them look?
Theresa May wouldn't even turn up, at least not without her minders and PR advisors and advance notice of each and every question. Williamson is her appointee so why does anyone expect anything different from him.
Yes he was right to do so. Politicians are trained to divert the question which is rude and quite frankly arrogant as they think we are stupid and will be impressed by their nonsense. Utter fools.
Absolutely correct decision by Richard Madeley to terminate the interview with G Williamson. Furthermore, there needs to be far more journalist that have the B$%LS to challenge politicians in this way. As Richard Madeley said it's about control, contempt for the journalist and the public at large. Well done Richard.
Time more people did this with these politicians who never answer what they were asked - time the public stood up to them so Yes he was right to boot the man off air.
Every interview needs to be like this, we will then begin getting genuine answers thus preventing and solving problems. Politicians are PR robots and we know it, they think they can bamboozle us with their nonsense, utter fools.
Galloway is right, Madely asked a simple question which which could have been answered without the world coming to an end, if all commentators did that, they would have to answer or lose their voice.
Sadly this was two years ago. Things have got much, much worse. Politicians work for nobody but themselves and they're answerable to no-one. We just finance them.
Very well done Richard. I wish more interviewers would do it. One pet hate I have is after the interviewer asks the question, instead on answering the question, the politician come out with a long and drawn out tribute to emergency services or armed forces etc. Its unnecessary, we all know how brave, skilled, dedicated these people are. I've come to the conclusion that the tribute is purely there to eat into interview time, to give them less time to answer other, potentially difficult questions.
Really, the problem here is the Cabinet Office. I do not believe for one minute that May would appoint this child to the number 3 or perhaps number 4 position in the political establishment of the United Kingdom. Unfortunately this "know nothing" of Britain and even less of the world, has been placed there by Common Purpose and the hidden "back office" who are the ones actually making policy. I draw your attention to Williamson's predecessor. who was an expert..............in children's nurseries.
Well done Richard Madely, a member of the Tory regime should be taken to task, freedom of the press is no longer paramount in our corrupt culture in the UK. Richard Madeley is an example of excellence to a bankrupt political class, the majority of which are Tory.
The dude in the interview wasn’t even answering the questions. He clearly had an ear piece and somebody was feeding him the answers. You can tell by the big pauses when he was answering the question
Can’t fault RM in principle and for shining a light on what he calls a sense of entitlement to ignore a question. However, the question itself, doesn’t have a huge amount of substance to it. So what if GW regrets his comments or not? It’s already out of the bag.
"Nakedly obfuscatory" - Madeley goes peak Partridge. ...and his 'terminating' the interview was unprofessional. He could have asked him again at the end and when he didn't answer again, as he surely wouldn't, end with an acknowledgement that he was unwilling to answer the question. Instead he dragged tthe 'viewers' into the frame and got full on bent out of shape and petulant. No wonder he grabbed his comfort cup to hide behind and to soothe his cottonmouth..
What do you expect from a whip who keeps a tarantula on his desk to intimidate his colleagues with? Hardly professional behaviour in more than one way.
Journalist pull people down all the time and Mr madely is no different it's grandstanding, personally I think Gavin Williamson did right not to commit to a very awkward and leading question. He will not be the first to tell the Russians to go away after what they have done most of us would have made the comment a bit more colourful and may have just told them to f off. So I think Mr Williamson was been very polite.
Is it such an important question anyway? He obviously wishes he hadn’t said it so what’s to be gained by trying to humiliate him. No mileage in it! Sorry but I hate politics sometimes.
Richard Madeley has rescued his reputation as a journalist in one stroke.
These are not journalists, just auto cue readers.
Well Richard Madeley, despite being a Neocon in the past, is an intelligent old school journalist who only woke up when he quit daytime TV and was an outsider looking in.
It's great he challenged Williamson but I wish this had been done sooner
👏👏👏👏👏👏
@@petekdemircioglu But it didn't last. He's back in the toilet now!
It's the only way to respond to an MP who refuses to answer.
Ok CUT.
Francis Madden agreed
YES HE WAS RIGHT , He did his job and it was refreshing to see , well done Richard
John Lundstram Yes.
Never been a fan of RM but I give him full marks for sticking at his line of questioning. I am afraid our new Secretary of War is an immature, "common purpose" tosspot.

Jack Inglis What is a Secretary of War exactly??
Jack, agree. Madeley increased a few points in my estimation. It's about time these MP's were brought to account.
I suggest you get a copy of the Oxford Dictionary and look up the definition of the word "irony". then you will be able to answer your own question.
Jack Inglis I have a copy of the OED,so what does your comment have to do with irony?
Kick out Piers and keep Richard.
Fruck outtahere Yes.
Was Richard right to end the interview early? Let us know what you think below ▼
Has to start sometime...the MSM have been mealy mouthed stenographers for the politicians long enough. I don't particularly like Madeley but what he did was good for the public and good for journalism.
talkRADIO yes he was right
talkRADIO Gavin Williamson is a first class fool

"Interview terminated." haha. I never thought anybody could give Gavin Williamson the upper hand. Madeley did.
how did gavin williamson get elected ?

Good job Richard.
i`m from russia and I'm glad to know u have solidly thinking people there.respect to ur richard!

talkRADIO there hard to find these day's.
Alan Partridge ahh haaaa 👍🏻
Andrew Neil
Brian Gerrish, Patrick Henningsen, Mike Robinson, Ian R Crane, Richie Allen, Mark Windows, Jimmy Church, Heinrich Palmgren
No serving politician would EVER EVER EVER go on their shows
A bit David Icke territory to be honest.
Never thought I'd hear Richard Madeley talking like Noam Chomsky
Haha what a comment, fairly accurate
Don't be fooled by Chomsky, One of the most persistent themes in Noam Chomsky’s work has been class warfare. Truly insane timeline.

Shoplifter!?!?!? Madeley does not look strong enough! ;)
Gavin Williamson just comes across as simple. It's incredible to think he is where he is so he's obviously got friends in high places because I wouldn't trust him to make the tea.

Don’t mess with Richard partridge!
249er X Williamson is a thief and williamson a fucking wanker
Mardeley is King! Wonderful to watch his dismissal of little Gavin. He was the one who was "shut up and had to go away". Wish more obfuscating MPs were treated in such a way. Don't they realise just how ridiculous and deceitful avoiding answers makes them look?
well done,a proper journalist
Well done Richard. It really is about time politicians answered direct questions with direct answers.
Madeley is a powerhouse of broadcast interrogation and if you are to cross him in an interview, you're always going to come off worse.
Theresa May wouldn't even turn up, at least not without her minders and PR advisors and advance notice of each and every question. Williamson is her appointee so why does anyone expect anything different from him.
Lynn, I'm not driving a Mini Metro
Well done Richard Madeley .Brilliant.
Christ, it comes to a sorry state when Richard Madeley and George Galloway are the bastions of truth, integrity and reason...
PURE GOLD.
Every interviewer should be conducted like that. Don’t take bullshit from politicians
Yes he was right to do so. Politicians are trained to divert the question which is rude and quite frankly arrogant as they think we are stupid and will be impressed by their nonsense. Utter fools.
Madley has obviously been to Journalism evening classes . . . excellent . . . he used to just talk about knitting and Jack Russell's on TV
More journalism’s should follow suit
This is what they should do to every politicians. Don't answer a question cut them off .
About time someone had balls to do this!
Great stuff.
Time more people did this with these politicians who never answer what they were asked - time the public stood up to them so Yes he was right to boot the man off air.
The literal elephant in the room walks past LOOOL
The Private Pike comparison is spot on.
This is how an interview should be, very proud of Richard. Show these lying programmed politicians for what they are and give them no room for waffle!
Sadly this was two years ago. Things have got much, much worse. Politicians work for nobody but themselves and they're answerable to no-one. We just finance them.
Shame Madeley stated on Question Time that he thought Tony Blair was honest.
Richard has indeed manned his office as a journalist.
This is how to interview, well done Richard.
Well said Georgey boy.
Really, the problem here is the Cabinet Office. Got to love Richard!
Public be more aware for who you vote for
I'll ask you one more time, who invented the skip?
If more stopped tolerating these career politicians not answering questions, this would remind them about their accountability to the people.
Of course Richard was right. Proud of him!!
Well done Richard Madely, a member of the Tory regime should be taken to task, freedom of the press is no longer paramount in our corrupt culture in the UK. Richard Madeley is an example of excellence to a bankrupt political class, the majority of which are Tory.
Surely politicians never want to answer questions directly so cutting him off just plays into their hands..
lovely stuff ! not my words, but the words of shakin’ stevens.
Well done Richard and his dolly bird.
What else do you expect from bourgeois politicians The truth?!
Gavin said off camera 'Richard should shut up and go away or l'll get my mum to go round his house and duff him up!'
George Galloway always answered all questions, NOT!
FREE RICHARD MADELEY.....has he been arrested yet???
Why did he keep drawing round his mug lol
Because he was getting mad, and needed to displace his feelings into another activity.
It was an utterly crass remark.
14 people put a thumbs down, why would you do that???
Fair play to Madeley!
Comes to something when you have to praise journalists, etc, for merely persisting and insisting on a straight answer to a straight enough question. !
That is how we do it in the US.
I don't think he had a drink that morning
Bravo Richard…..

This is his Paxman moment
brilliant ,hell he taken of air now unfortunatly
Journalist pull people down all the time and Mr madely is no different it's grandstanding, personally I think Gavin Williamson did right not to commit to a very awkward and leading question. Bet you he wished the interviewer would also shut up and go away!
Talking about the Skripal fairytale is the last thing Gav wants to do ..... for obvious reasons.
*Gavin Williamson! Some mothers do have them!*
I agree with him.
richard is such a weirdo. more of him please.
Wish they would tackle Ruth Davidson
The Elephant in the room, more than one shown 1:07
RICHARD RICHARD RICHARD!!!

Could Richard just Gavin Williamson's career?
Fair play Richard never did like you but well done keep probing
5:25 the bloke wants to become PM - maybe he though talking folksy like Boris Johnson would earn him some points ? - well it backfired.
Is it such an important question anyway? He obviously wishes he hadn’t said it so what’s to be gained by trying to humiliate him. No mileage in it! Sorry but I hate politics sometimes.
Go on Madley.
Gavin williamson right or wrong, but Madeley does not speak for me
