I just bought this Vermillionaire for a big garden pot out on my back patio. This is the first time in trying it and hoping when my hummingbirds come back they will enjoy it as I have used Agastache in that pot in the past and they sure loved it as well!
I just ordered a few Vermillionaire plants from Proven Winners yesterday and can't wait for them to arrive...even though it's still early Feb. I'm in zone 7b also and am changing my garden varieties to cater specifically to hummers and butterflies. You're right, hummers have a good memory. When I take my feeders down to refill them, the hummers hang around where the feeders used to be and wonder where they went. I have had them drink from the feeders while I'm still holding them, even before I've rehung them.
I’m a nursery manager here in Florida, this is a great informative video. I only stumbled upon this bc I’m a plant nerd lol. If I ever find myself in NC I’ll stop by!
Awesome! Thank you!
Bought this plant today hoping hummingbirds would like it and loved your video!
Just sit back and wait my friend, they will come and love you for it!
Love seeing my hummingbirds! Thank you! for letting me know about the plant.
You're so welcome! Your hummers will love you even more when you get this plant for them 😉
I absolutely love this plant and bought one a few days ago, your video just gave me a great idea of what I might plant it with. Thank you!
You’re so welcome! Happy gardening!
I bought some of these and placed them around my house. Even if I don't get hummingbirds, they are such a nice looking hardy plant! Thank you!
Great video! Love that blue pot with the green sedum.
Thanks so much! I am such a sucker for a cobalt blue pot!
Very informative video. Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Great video, hoping to see more from you guys!! 💜
Thank you so much! We have TONS of content lined up for Spring & Summer ~ stay tuned!
I like your idea of scheduling plant fertilizing (any maintenance) on your phone. Good idea!
Beautiful! Thanks!
Thanks for watching! Happy gardening!
I bought a vermillionaire and within one week it became dry and all the flowers fell off. I repotted it with slow release fertilizer. Is there anything else I can do to bring it back to life? Will it still grow if it’s dried out ?
I would trim it back by 1/3 of its size, make sure you used fresh potting soil in the container, put some mulch around the top to retain moisture, make sure it gets at least 6 hours of sun, and water it well 1x a day. As long as it is not completely dead it will come back. Hope this helps!
Great video from your favorite nephew
Thanks bud! Enjoy your time off!
Gardening with Creekside . Yep
I noticed you didn’t break up the roots, etc when you repotted the vermillionaire - do you recommend breaking up the roots if I am repotting a larger one into a new container? Also will these stay happy in containers or do they eventually need to go in ground? Would plastic container be okay or do you think clay would be better for one? Thanks!
I only break up the roots of the plant is extremely root bound and these were not, great question! Both Vermillionaire and Lemon Coral do great in containers so they can stay all season in the pot. As long as you keep the plants well fed & watered throughout the season you can plant them in any type of container. Happy gardening!
Gardening with Creekside Awesome. Bought a Vermillionaire yesterday so repotting it now. Excited to have one. Thanks so much!!
I'm trying to design a tough spot, solid fence behind, pavement in front, less than a foot deep & NO irrigation along a long drive. Might look for this cuphea to put into the mix. Thinking some artemesia, purple hearts, small asters, yello stellas, sedums. Native aster seems happy there so it's NOT bone dry. Any other suggestions? I'm in N. Georgia.
Wow, that’s a tough one. I personally might be tempted to just mulch the area and keep it weed free, but you also might want to consider echinacea like PW’s ‘Lakota Fire’. It’s a bit smaller than traditional echinacea so it won’t spill over onto the pavement.
@@GardeningwithCreekside thank you for your input. It's a long area, entry to a resort. I'm thinking of starting a few small areas to see what might work.
You might also consider Lemon Coral Sedum and Blue My Mind Evolvulus.
Can you make it into a raised bed area? Then you have more room for potting soil, and roots. Also use mulch like she did or fill the area with a good ground cover like the lemon coral sedum, or portulaca.
How do I tell if a cultivar really feeds the birds rather than just attracting just because of color? I always worry about this.
I am certainly no scientist but I suspect birds are like kids. They must be getting fed otherwise they wouldn’t keep coming back for more 😉
Thanks for this video. Sugar water feeders are not natural and not healthy for hummingbirds flower nectar is 😊
