dude this remake is crap as fuck, in the original game the units have multiple attack animations, in this they only have 1 animation, llooks like was made with their ass
This remake is honestly one of the laziest I've ever seen. When it was FINALLY released on Steam, it still had the bug whereby Anti-Virus software considered it a Trojan and so forceably closed it after just 5 minutes. As if Microsoft couldn't find a work around in the one and half years from Games for Windows Live to Steam. As you say the pathfinding is god-awful, the AI is still retarded, yet still gets the cheats of ful map knowledge and extra resources, no new features were properly added, no new civilizations or campaigns (the changes to the old campaigns don't count because they are often just visual or name alterations) and others have said the animation quality is really leaving something to be desired.
@@arcsaber1127 this is AoE, not reality, so who cares? Also, historical Romans also owned Carthaginians to the point of ruining their city and salting the ground.
@@XYZ-eo8um Yes, but that was by dividing their ranks and evading the elephant charge, because they knew they couldn't take the elephants head on. Masterful technique no doubt, but point still remains: Wouldn't work in reality.
@@truebeliever786 Uhm, it would work it reality. The main effect of using elephants on the battlefield was a psychological one, so after the Romans started training their troops and cavalry to deal with the sight and the smell of elephants, they were not nearly as big of a threat. They had a multitude of ways to break an elephant charge (or to kill them quickly if the elephants came too near to their lines): pikes, light mobile cavalry, hacking at their feet or trunks, trapping them in spike pits, using artillery (you know, they are huge targets), or even releasing pigs or some other type of animal to break the charge, like they did at the Battle of Maleventum. So, infantry could and did deal with elephants.
The Centurion is really strong, you can't beat it on close combat. The best way to deal with them it to use the fact that they walk slowly against them. Use ranged units like Heavy Horse Archer and focus fire them one by one(also do hit and run). Of course Pirests, Heavy Catapult and Helepolis also works fine.
It doesn't help the fact that they aren't really that expensive, only the tech is, but in a game where everyone already had their tech researched, you literally can never go wrong with making centurion's as long as you got a monk counter.
It's funny how this unit actually looks like a Legionnary/Centurion in DE. I remember when I used to play the original AoE1 that the Centurion looked like he was wearing a medieval full plate armor suit. I was like "wow! They had Knights even back then!" as a kid. 🤣 I'm also glad the spear still looks like a spear. I swear, in the original game, the spear started to look like an over-sized pokey sword after the Phalanx upgrade! Like, the other end of the spear (the one that goes behind the hand) just dissapeared!

@Therolass XD que decis??? XD los catafractos con armadura de cuerpo completo así como un caballero del medievo (no sólo partos) son de oriente. @@icarian553 while that is true any centurion ( with the exception of the carthaginians) can beat a greek centurion so just counter attack with a centurion which isnt as expensive as helepolis or catapults and have evrything upgraded and you will auto beat greek centurions

The speed means also that they are stronger against their usual counters, even against siege. You should consider the half pop tech for barracks when using legions Otherwise they will do kinda bad against every other heavy units (gold background)
Detail: The Centurion that appears here is configured for Roman civ. If it was with the Greek extra speed to Academy units, would've them be capable of dodging the Catapults'es shots?
I always ended up with greek's version. I don't like how they make so unbalanced these units... A single armored elephant can kill dozen of centurions. A ballista is able to oneshot every human unit
This game is hardly historically accurate heh, but in this case it's ¿kinda? true, Romans did use hastae and pila to fight in melee, although it wasn't that common and probably it was conditional (like, only when facing cavalry charges and such, you throw 1 pilum and keep the other as a polearm)
Why all melee infantry, scythe chariots, camels and armored elephants with full ups have iron armor but cataphracts have only bronze? Developers must remade this one
They used to be even more OP at one stage in Rise Of Rome. Helepolis had 1.5s reload time = fire another bolt before first one hits anything. 10+ catapults could one shot anything and they had the damage area of 3 tiles. Oh and Hittite had 300HP on those things. Combined with 15 range
