I found a soluce with Logic Pro X... Create your first track with Opus Orchestrator Stereo. Record with it. Then, create another Track with Opus in Multitimbral 16 stereo channels. Open the Orchestrator with the same Patch (of course). On each instrument on the left, assign it to an Opus X & y different (Opus 1 & 2, opus 3 & 4...). Then, in the Mixer, click on the "+" at the bottom of the fader to create as tracks as needed (each one will have the entry name Opus 3 & 4, Opus 5 & 6, ...). The first One "Named Opus" is Opus 1 & 2. Select all tracks from Opus 3 & 4 to your last one) and Ctrl+T to create the respective instrument tracks in Logic. Then, use the first Stereo Opus Orchestrator to record... then Drag and Drop onto the first track (Opus 1 & 2) of your multitimbral instance... and that's it !!! All parts appears in all tracks of the the multitimbral instance of Orchestrator. You can mute the Stereo instance and compare ! You can make a new video with this... everything is fine, now
AMAZING!! OH MY GOD, as much as I LOVE orchestrator, this was my biggest problem with it. So THANK YOU!!! EastWest Heard the cries, and addressed the concerns. Thank you for making this vdieo. I even tried it out in Garageband and it works flawlessly. THANK YOU for this video Robert.,
Thank you for the kind words! I agree, even though the orchestrator is a massive product, this was a much needed update. I’m really happy that it’s something that can work for other DAWs like GarageBand too!
It would be good if EW produced a proper tutorial on this, or described it in the manual. Here are a few things I have discovered. When you hit play on a part Opus listens and records the track. If you stop and hit play again, it replaces the first recording. Second, in Cubase 12, the MIDI parts all default to Halion - which is not what is desired. To alter all of these tracks in one go to Opus MIDI outputs, select them all, go to the mixer window find the selected tracks, then holding down alt and shift, change the first track's MIDI output - this will change all selected tracks to this setting.
CAN'T GET ORCHESTRATOR UI TO RECORD: I am on Logic Pro 11 with the newest Opus and Orchestrator and I cannot find any way to make the RECORD icon do anything at all. I see the little 'hand' with a large white dot to its lower left but that is all. It doesn't appear to be recording anything and I have tried dragging the little hand just incase it was do it by default but still nothing. Are you doing something to active 'recording' in some way? I feel that something must be missing here. I sure could use a little help with this if anyone knows.
To help solve the cut off problem try recording extra 4 -5 bars of your 8 bar section before dragging it into your daw. ( record 12 bars of it) That way, even if it cuts your last bar off( as it did for you) you still have recorded plenty of extra. You can then cut off any extra bars in your daw just leaving the 8 bar section that you originaly wanted to record.
I haven't read all the comments here so maybe someone else already posted about automatic assigning of instruments instead having to reassign each one as you suggest in this video. I use Cubase Pro 12 and before you import the midi tracks from Hollywood Orchestrator using the little "record hand" you should click on Edit--> Preferences--> Midi--> Midi File--> then under Import Options Choose the Destination (drop down window) and choose "Midi Tracks" and click apply and OK at the bottom. Now when you import the midi data from the little record hand in Orchestrator, the track will come into Cubase already assigned the correct EastWest Opus instrument sounds. Give it a try.
This works well, thank you. If you have more than one Instrument track with Orchestrator on them, just make sure you drag and drop onto a blank space below all tracks, so it creates new orchestrator individual midi tracks, the mapping for the output may need adjusting to your second instance of orchestrator, as you may have different settings in that one! (of course, make sure Bypass is selected, but I think Orchestrator does that automatically after a drag and drop)
Anyone using this with Cubase? When I do the click-and-drag-record function, It creates most of (but not all) of the instrument tracks. Orchestrator never seems to use more than 16 MIDI channels, so that doesn’t appear to be an issue. 2- If I try to do it twice, it creates the instrument tracks in an instance of Halion SE and fill in with GM sounds???? Any ideas or resources would be appreciated.
Even when I go track by track and load Opus (Black Knight or whatever score I'm using) the midi data still does not play the score you hear in the original Opus track.
You would be much faster by creating a multitimbral (16 parts) Opus instance and then just drag the midi capture.Probably you must drag some midi regions to the dedicated instrument, but most times it works well, so you save a lot of time instead of reloading each instrument.
@@Notmehimorthem if you create a multitimbral instrument track (in the 'create new tracks' screen), Logic will create midi tracks for all the instruments within Opus. This solves the problem he had when he dragged the recorded midi data from Opus.
Found a BUG in Studio One under Win 10 Pro...looks like after the D&D, SOME of the Left Hand Bass notes are being cut off. Had to edit the MIDI. Also you need to assign the SAME Midi Outputs to the Tracks as are in the Orchestrator. Try going into the "Play" panel and select "EPIC". Also, go into the "Mixer" Panel and that allows you to Sub Mix each instrument including any effects. All-in-all I'd give this update an "OMG!" :)
@@RobertRodriguezMusic you are very kind. I wanted to ask you one more thing: I have bought by Thomann only hd with all library: strings, woodw, perc, brass etc.....but i need about licences....in site of East west there are a lot of options...which option i must install? update ? or other? Hi Robert, at the outset, I am very new to this stuff but I have a few questions. Can I get this to work in a Daw like Ableton? I have an issue with OPUS where my audio gets crackly when I load it up. My CPU is a Threadripper, top of the line components... Is having an off board sound card an appropriate next step?
Hey! If you go to the EastWest Installation Center, you can update the orchestrator and any other EW libraries from there if they haven’t been updated already 😄
Hey Robert, Thanks for the info. One point I would make from a viewer standpoint. The head light behind your head, back in the corner. You may want to lower it or move it closer to you. Your lighting is great, but that back light is bothersome when you move your body to the left. When you do lean to your left my eye goes immediately to the light and off of the subject.....which is you. Just an easy to fix needed distraction. I will subscribe after sending this. I may already be as I got your email telling about the upgrade. I also echo the level of customer support at EW. Have a great year Robert and all the best in 2022. David
Hi David! Thanks for the suggestion! As I was editing the video, that light actually caught my eye as well. Once I noticed, I moved it so that it won’t be as noticeable for my next videos! Thanks again for the the tip, hope you’re well.
I looked into it, and it seems like it should work with Ableton Live 10 but not 100% sure about Windows 11! I’d suggest reaching out to the support team to double check. They’ve been super helpful for me!
@@elnidogaming Hey! For 1TB it might definitely take a while. I’ve heard a lot of people experience long download times. Personally I had to break it up by library so that it didn’t take a full day at one a shot.
@@RobertRodriguezMusic Ouch! Long download times, huh? I think I'll do the same, download one library at a time. Most helpful video on the topic of Orchestrator. I have a work I've created with completed melody, some harmony and percussion. All the chords are done too. What I need now is for Orchestrator to help me "fill in the blanks" with oboe, flute trumpet strings and other instrument parts of a full orchestra. So could I make a homemade preset but I'd want my own completed part of the work to guide orchestrator. Has anyone ever tried this? I wouldn't know how to make a preset unless the preset was my own orchestral piece itself. How do you make a preset? Anyone?
The best answer is create a preset with all your favourite instruments in Orchestrator, then just use the solo and mute buttons to select individual instruments. Record your piece in Orchestrator while playing along to your previous tracks, then just drag and drop into a new track. Works for me!
Hello Robert. I have a question. I have create a track with the orchestrator. It s around 20 measures. But when I export that I have only half of them....have you the same issue?
Hey! This is a great point. I actually do have the same issue. For example, in the video I try recording a full 4 bar progression but it cuts off a bit early. Definitely something I hope can be patched in a future update!
Insanely great. After seeing your videos I have upgraded my Hollywood orchestra to opus edition immediately. My question is, this orchestrator is like keyboards such as Korg and Yamaha arranger keyboards. Do you thing this will kill creativity of producers or many talented musicians. ? From my perspective it will be great educational tool for improving orchestral arrangement. Thanks.
Thank you! I couldn’t agree more. It’s easy to fall into the trap of having the orchestrator have the final say. Instead maybe it’s better to use it to improve our orchestrations. We could analyze the output and make creative decisions from there. It’s definitely powerful but I hope musicians know to put in the work to find their own sound!
Does anyone have an update/figured out a way to load the opus instruments upon dragging and dropping? I have played with the settings but haven't discovered anything new. Anyone figure it out?
Check out this explanation of how this works in Cubase - ruclips.net/video/rrpyaJ_gloE/видео.html Fortunately I use both Logic and Cubase, and based on workflow I'll be using Cubase when I use the Orchestrator. I'm gonna explore some ideas on how to get the same workflow with Logic.
Hey! I believe the update should automatically appear as an option in the EastWest Installation Center. Once it’s downloaded and you pull up the orchestrator in your DAW, that little hand symbol towards the bottom right will allow you to record.
A while back I was messing around with RPG Maker MV and I wanted a custom title theme rather than the stock themes that came with the program, so I whipped up this little gem in orchestrator. I just wanted something fast and simple that I eventually might sit down and do a full composition of later if I decided to go with it as the inspiration. It took longer to decide on the presets than it did to figure out the actual piece on-the-fly. ruclips.net/video/TefGe5X4inI/видео.html I was really amazed at how epic it turned out from just 2 orchestrator tracks, one was for the score and the other was for the ensemble.
UHHhhh.... Sorry but this isn't working for a couple of reasons. First, a couple of the tracks come in as audio, NOT MIDI. Second, the amount of work that has to be done to each track, including modulations being lost, has made this a NON-STARTER for me. I'm back to generating the MIDI in Studio One (Which saves modulation and doesn't generate audio), exporting the tracks and dragging them into Logic. Much cleaner for me.
How to load all the midi information in specified tracks WITH the original Orchestrator instruments in Logic? Very easy! Look in the Opus manual -> heading 2.5.6: Using Opus as a Multi-Timbral Plugin.
To get the original instruments and not DAW instruments when you drag and drop, just drop the midi hand click on the same opus track that has already loaded the orchestrator, that you just played with, instead of a new track, that will apply all the original opus instruments correctly, you don't have to reload anything again
Not working in Logic, still creates a bunch of other instruments. Is there a setting in Logic that needs to change to get it to use the original Opus instruments?
