- In this video I briefly discuss the structure of a MOV, MP4 QT video file and how we can use free tools to repair corrupt videos: A hex editor, a calculator and untrunc. Fun fact, the paid video repair tools from Wondershare or Stellar did not repair this video!!

Tuna man, love the concept here! I've had a fair share of data loss/corruption and knew there had to be a way to manually rebuild files. I've repaired JPEGs so far, and diving into MP4, MOV etc. with your video which you clearly have the experience, but video's a bit rough. I think I've watched it 20 times and still struggling to complete the process. Results are pretty scarce when researching this topic. If you have the time I'd love to pick your brain on it and see if I could help.✌
I'm not trying this right away, but I'm sure this video is very helpful, and I may use this if lazy alternatives don't work :)
Tuna, this is incredible. Question: If you have a corrupted file, and you can only find one or two of the "atom" types while searching in the hex editor, is that insufficient? Or if I have a reference file, can I replace somehow? I guess my question is whether or not I can use the untrunc with a reference file to try and replace missing ftyp or moov elements? And if you can't find mdat in a recovered file, is it worthless, even though there is data (chaotic stuff, not just zeros)?

as long as you have mdat you have a chance as long as you have a reference file (as explained and exampled in the video).

I still have some doubts for my particular scenario which some of the 'actual video' hex section seem like lost information. Like repeated patterns: "€(¢Š`QE�QE�QE�QE�QE�QE�QK" . My SD got corrupted and after recovering the files, I tried repairing the avi files but... no luck!
I know this video is about mov or mp4, but this was really insightful. I will research more.

What did you use to record the video? What camera, what device?
@@DiskTuna It was a very tiny camera that used old SD card format up to 32GB. I used to record my band gigs. But after 3 years, the SD card got corrupted. It prompted that the disk has no format. I did formatted it and run a recovery software that got back the AVI videos. But they only play one second and end.
I know it will require more research but I'd be able to recover at least some parts. I have faith.
I have a 7z file with a corrupted header... can I use HxD to try to fix it?
Thank you for this! You have new subscriber. :) I managed to repair video, however audio is out of sync error is "Could not find codec parameters for stream 1 and same for 2,3,4". Any hint to repair that? Thank you!

Hello I ran my truncated mp4 along with a source file in Untrunc only to recieve this message...."untrunc cannot find 'mdat' atom in first 64mb". Is there any hope for me ever recovering this file?
Never seen this message, I have repaired MP4 files without mdat atom.

jammer ik heb dit probleem met een mp4 clip van 3 gb maar ik snap niks van dit , heb er geen verstand van , kan het dus niet uitproberen maar heb het wel dringend nodig
Je mag de MP4 wel naar me opsturen, mailen, delen via google drive etc. .. Idealiter ook een intact bestand van dezelfde camera.
@@DiskTuna dank je wel voor je aanbod maar heb gisteravond nog verder gezocht op youtube en een clip gevonden waar stap voor stap alles werd uitgelegd en na wat stoei werk is het gelukt ,ik heb de videoclip hersteld, gelukkig want was van een communiedienst

I can't tell just like that. If the file contains video data it may still be fixable.
@@DiskTuna The video is the same size now as it was before it got corrupted. I tried to repair it with Grau Gbr video repair and many other methods and got it from not playing at all to at least able to open it in vlc but it only shows a grey/pink teint.

media repair decrypts nothing at all, it repairs the part that's not encrypted. it's normal first part has damage as this is the part that is encrypted.
Are you trying to say that a WATERMARK is "Ransomware?" You should probably elaborate on this if your serious.....

I really want to follow what you are talking about. I really want to see and understand what you are showing, but...
You are really a clever man I suppose, but you are not made for speeches. As you see I can communicate in english although I'm not a native english speaker, but I'm really stumbling over all those ah's, oh's hmmm's etc. your sentences come stumbling all the time. It is a pain to try to follow you...
Please, do yourself a favour: Write a script, from that you can read on. It will get you an order in your thoughts. Start a sentence and speak fluently up to the end.
And: Do use a smaller Display resolution, sync that with the video resolution!!! You are never using more then 1/4 of the screen, so the rest is just superfluous!

Do yourself a favor, if it's all too cringe to watch, then just don't. Look, I can make a video like this in let's say an hour. If I'd start working with scripts, edits (cut bad parts, redo those) and all that it could easily take me half a day, if not more. I want to spend an hour, not half a day.
Tip 1: Don't watch any of my other videos, they're all like this.
Tip 2: Don't consider a career as motivational speaker, coach counselor or anything of the like, your people skills suck.
