Wow! I've just done my first belt exam from Pinan Shodan 2days ago. I was sooo excited, I trained a lot to do my best, I could hardly sleep... I was always thinking about the kata... But you are a master, Yusuke, my best is nothing comparing to you... Love to see your movements! Thanks!

Nicely done! You do your punches the same way we do them and most everyone else I suspect. However, i discovered something while practicing Taikioko Shodan alone in a park nearly 20 years ago. When your punch ends after the body has stopped, all you end up with is an arm punch. You have reduced the speed of the punch and the mass behind the punch. Newton’s formula for force is mass times velocity squared. If your punch ends while the body is still moving the speed of your punch is increased by the speed the body is moving. Also if your punch ends while your body is still moving you have increased the mass at the end of the punch by the weight of your body (centered in your hips-especially for women). As an experiment, re-shoot the Kata in slow motion with your punch ending just before the body stops moving and see if you can tell any difference. Anyway, good work!

Each time you step forward, you give it away by moving your front foot out then move, but it is still a lot better than I could ever do, so please don’t be offended, it’s just the first thing I noticed.

Hello, I was wondering why you did not step into renoji dachi and execute the tetsui tsuki during your 4th step. I just started training and your videos are extremely helpful. However, Is there variations with in the shotokan system? Or does it vary by dojo? Is there any way you could make a short clip of performing the variation with renoji dachi and tetsui uke? Thanks again..

    Hello Yusuke sama,
I did Kyokushin karate 12 or 13 years ago.
unfortunately only for one year. but I've wanted to start again with karate for a long time.
near me there are only Wado Ryu schools. is it very different from shotokan karate?
do you have any tips for me? today i'm 25 years old, should i prepare myself somehow?
what's the best way to start again with karate?
i have been watching your videos for a short time and jesse san for about a year, thanks for this great content
    Greetings from Germany

Obviously, you do it very well. The only thing I wonder about is why the movement of both feet at the beginning and end. I was taught to bow and only move one foot (the left) to take the ready stance. That must have changed at some point. I guess to start and finish in the exact center, maybe?

I was taught and still do the 2 feet movement. I think it has to do with centered or balance. I think both feet is more common, but it may depend on the gym.

Why in your kata does your hammerfist look different then lets day O sensei kanazawa? Is it because of different shotokan affiliate?
