This dude legitimately carried the company during the most difficult time for that company and the industry. The fact that he still accomplished a memorable and legendary career during those uncertain times is a testament to his skill. He didn't 'draw' as much as Hogan, simply because he was handed the reigns when the industry was going cold and losing money.

Nobody could draw during that time. The high from the 80s had worn off. The steroid and sex scandals were going full tilt at the time as well, so yeah. Bret didn't set the wrestling world on fire, but neither did Flair, Shawn, Taker, diesel etc etc. What's telling though is the title was given to those other guys only to come back full circle to Bret. When I think new generation it's Bret for sure.

Because I remember when flair and Brett came out, there was a video screen, and it said Colosseum video right next to the entrance.

Thank you for this video...Bret "The Hitman" Hart, in my opinion, was truly one of a kind in the world of professional wrestling. When he stepped up to the mic for a promo, it was evident that he spoke from the heart, connecting with the audience on a genuine level. While other wrestlers may have been excellent at playing their characters, Bret remained true to himself, and that's what I admired most about him.
His authenticity and passion shone through every time he addressed the fans, making us feel like we were getting a glimpse into the real person behind the persona. It was refreshing to witness a wrestler who didn't solely rely on gimmicks, but instead, let his true self shine through.
Although it's true that Bret may not have been the biggest draw in terms of box office success, I firmly believe that he played a vital role in carrying the company. His matches were technically superb, and he had the ability to tell compelling stories in the ring, captivating audiences around the world.
For me, Bret "The Hitman" Hart will always be remembered as an exceptional talent who wrestled with heart and honesty, and that's something that will forever set him apart in the history of professional wrestling.

People who say he’s a bitter old man whining about the past wouldn’t be saying it if they gone through even a fraction of his life. With what he went through, he could have ended up like Steve Diko who pulled himself away from the mainstream after leaving Marvel Comics or Alan Moore of today when it comes to the comic industry in general with him so estranged from it after encountering a number of snakes in suits (sound familiar?) willing to undercut him because he’s seen as a worker.
Bret could have had a far more cynical and jaded about pro wrestling like Garth Ennis, Warren Ellis or Mark Miller are about the superhero genre in comics unless it’s Superman of course.

    • @KairiPrime
      @KairiPrime Год назад +3

I think the main reason he gets all of those 'oh he's so bitter' comments is because in so many interviews he's done he's asked about those painful moment, like Owen's death, his stroke, or the Screwjob, and he simply answers in that dry. honest way he has. And then those clips get chopped up and spread around the internet. Yet when you watch full interviews in context, he doesn't usually spend that much time on those topics overall, especially more recently.
It has to be frustrating for him to have to tell the same stories over and over again about the worst moments of his life. He really is far more chill and forgiving than people make him out to be, especially after he came back in 2010.

From a BH fan - I think they see him as "bitter" because he's led a principled life, and that righteousness can foster resentment in self and in others which has bled over into his post-retirement engagements. I.E Bret comes off as thinking his "sh*t don't stink", and while he might be right most of the time, just the attitude is enough to make people cringe. Although, I think that perception is relaxing these days as Bret's tenure is becoming increasingly more recognized as of late, as it should.

The thing that gets me is he always gave Vince a chance to counter offer WCWs offers and would take anything over WCW. His last contract with the WWF was less money more working days it had some nice perks but it was still less. But vince said he couldnt afford the contract anymore, Bret contacted the WCW to see what they had to offer then went to Vince for a counter offer. Vince made no real offer and told Bret to "think with your brain not your heart". Bret just wanted recognition he wanted to feel valued in thr company he would have taken any reasonable contract over the WCW even if it was less money.

A few fan's said Bret lost to Shawn and obviously Eric was in the ring saying Bret Hart's coming to WCW/NWO. I was 12 and I had zero clue what was going on. After the show ended WCW referee Scott Dickenson talked to some fans and said he heard Bret puched Pat Patterson and Shane (lol). I was so confused. All i remember thinking was why Scott told us he still worked at the post office and who was this Shane person lol. One of the wildest 48 hrs. in pro wrestling.

Listen, I’m a fan of Bret and I do agree that he does come across as bitter. However, when you’re being asked the same questions over and over you can’t really blame him. The interviewer asks the questions and the interviewee answers them. Also, the screw job was a big moment in wrestling history so of course people continue to ask him about it. I could see if he were bringing it up every chance he got but I highly doubt he’s just talking about it out of thin air; and instead answering questions that are asked to him. Maybe his tone of voice could be changed when he answers as to not sound so bitter about it still, idk. 🤷🏾‍♀️

And most fans like myself who were already adults in 1997 and came up watching wrestling in the 70s and 80s territory days don't pick sides. At the end of the day they were both right and they were both wrong. Bret has even said that.

Undertaker beating Hogan the year before was one exception so they turned him face not too long after.

I just counted 5 times Shawn pinned Bret in January 1997 all if them WWF title matches. Not that it really matters of all those matches they had only what 4-5 were televised or ppv and in that format Shawn beats bret in televised/ppv matches.
Not gonna go back over every house show from every year, but had house shows been booked the same way in 96-97 as they were in 1992 (and had Shawn not lost his smile and forfeited title in feb 97) he would have probably had a lot more.
The wwf started mixing up the matches more in the mid to late 90s where as in 1992 they wrestled the same match same finish every night for months straight ( they would only change the match if they went back to a certain arena for a second match but loops were typically 3 months).
The only televised matches from the 1992 matches was a Shawn Michaels victory in their first meetjng as singles wrestlers by countout on wrestling challenge/superstar taping not sure which one aired, but the back to back tapings both had the match with that finish( a very clean win too, of course they played the whole Shawn was too dumb to realize a count-out wouldn’t win him the belt gig), and Of course Survivor Series 92, which Bret won. The ladder match made coliseum home video like a year after it happened ( a throw away match on a tv taping where both guys had already wrestled multiple time, just to get the point of a ladder match across to Vince).
Of course of all the matchups in the tag days the only one with a decisive winner was the SNME match, and Bret did the job (had the ropes not broken Rockers would have been champs). No politicking was done, but the fact the Anvil decided to stay in WWF helped solidify Vinces decision not to air match or switch titles. Thats why the title switch happened contract disputes with Anvil, and Bret was glad to be going to singles.
Of all the matches they had or planned to have, it was Shawn who lost his smile and refused to get a match in the ring, and he wasn’t hurt anyways (running up steps, and doing backflips off top turnbuckle). Even Bruce pritchard who always backs him up said the injury was bogus, which is why Michaels went off script and said he lost his smile.

Plenty of guys have done the exact same thing, only without having the backing of prestigious wrestling family behind them.
My issue with Bret is that he was working for a company that gave him everything he could ever want, but it wasn't enough for Bret. The WWF literally handed him the keys to the company...but it wasn't good enough for him. He was a great wrestler, but a shitty employee, and a shitty person.

wrong. literally wrong. at least with the bottom bit. Vince was literally making his character a crybaby, and would rather push the actual crybaby who was attacking Bret's family and Bret himself (Shawn Michaels), Vince gave him a contract Bret wanted because he literally wanted to stay in WWF, Vince actively pushed him to WCW because he'd rather keep Shawn than Bret, Vince broke his contract willingly with a screwjob, all because he didn't want to drop the belt to someone who just didnt deserve it being HIM the one to win it from.
Bret never had the keys to the WWF, Bret was the one pleading with Vince to keep him in the company, despite Shawn Michaels making his life hell.
Please get your facts straight and figure out who the real villains of the screwjob was.

and what other wrestlers were like or were capable of. In his case even if his dad
hid certain aspects of the business from him, if he was really a student of the game
he would have eventually figured it out on his own. Metaphorically speaking he knew

What’s baffling 2 me is that we’re living in a world where ‘THE HITMAN’ Bret Hart & ‘THE INCREDIBLE’ Hulk Hogan never had a singles match 2gether in the WWF! When I was coming of age I thought 2 myself that those 2 probably had 100 matches 2gether cause of how over they were but nope low and behold that it never happened. O BTW the only thing that the screw job did was prevent HBK & THE HITMAN from having another 20 more matches 2gether. Remember HBK injured his back in that casket match @ that seasons Royal Rumble and the main event 4 Wrestlemania 14 was supposed 2 a triple threat match between THE HITMAN vs HBK vs STONE COLD Steve Austin with STONE COLD going over with Vince McMahon screwing both HBK & THE HITMAN in a much less confusing & embarrassing way thus giving birth 2 the Mr. McMahon character so he could feud with Austin and the wrestling focus would’ve been more on THE ROCK & STONE COLD! That just further proves that we’re living in an imperfect world lol!

Bret Hart is a wrestler I will always have a love/hate relationship with. I love his wrestling style and I was always a big fan of it. On the other hand, sometimes he’s just too full of himself. And I wish he would let go of some of this bitterness. That said, I’m not gonna say it’s totally unjustified. But at least Shawn, Michaels and Earl Hebner have admit it there wrongdoing and I’ve actually apologized so those two I could actually give a break. Vince McMahon I will always look a little Sadai at.
The thing on Goldberg, everyone wants to blame him for the end of Bretz career, but the truth is Brett wrestled for several weeks after that kick which could not have helped his condition. While Goldberg was a factor, you can blame Brett for not taking time off as well.
As for that Hall of Fame induction for him and his old partner, Jim Neidhart into the Hall of Fame? Fuck that dude for what he did! They should’ve beat his ass within an inch of his life! as far as I’m concerned, once you cross that barrier and put hands on Brett, he was fair game! I know people talk about legality’s and all that and usually I’m with that. In this instance, especially Amanda has survived cancer twice and is a stroke survivor, that Nimrod should’ve got a very good whooping, and should be thankful that the police did take him in the custody! They may have saved his life!

    • @KairiPrime
      @KairiPrime Год назад +3

He has let go of a lot of it, thing is people still bring it up in interviews and it forces him to talk about it again and again. I'm sure you'd sound a bit bitter too if you had to constantly talk about the worst moments of your life. If you watch full interviews in context and not just soundbites, he tries not to spend much time on those subjects anymore. He's also openly admitted that he is partly to blame for how shit went down and has forgiven Shawn and Earl for what happened. He even admits that him and Shawn are friendly now to the point of being able to talk and text openly with him. As for him being a bit full of himself, name me one top guy in the business who isn't?
You also have to remember that at the time of the Goldberg kick, there was no concussion protocol first of all and also old school guys like Bret tended to work hurt a lot of the time, because if you didn't it could effect your pay. Which it did when Bret did eventually take time off to rehab. His pay was cut in half and then in half again and again until he was eventually released. And that was before Bret found out his career was over. It wasn't at all like today where companies at least try to take care of their talent. So yes Bret probably didn't help himself by continuing to work, but I can understand why he did.
