      For real, saw them seven times. There is no current band that exudes the genius and mystery they displayed. If there is, please tell me, I long to be incorrect. Truthfully, the internet already answered the question, right in this comment.

      Well life is about to get better when it has been an epic struggle globally. Check out “Eracist”. While there may not be faith in mankind, there is faith that Bungle will always shatter the norm. There will never be another work of musical (or any)art to eclipse the original Mr. Bungle, their worst material still makes the rest appear .............well quite frankly it makes the rest disappear. Get on your knees, and I’ll be coming back to you. Oooooooohhhh. Ohhhhhh.

      @@andrewhigdon8346 Are we not a bit underwhelmed with Bungle 2020? I don't want their teenage years thrash, I want their mid-90s experimentalism and ambitious instrumentation!!

    • @andrewhigdon8346
      @andrewhigdon8346 4 года назад +1

      @@martybyrnemusic yes I agree. Even though Disco Volante and California both grew on me over time,neither one has any part or song or even theme to compare to the original Mr. Bungle. The whole of Disco is experimentation and none of them are what we would consider songs, but an excellent listen nonetheless. And while California is all real songs, with some of them being top notch, on fifth listen. Retrovertigo is exceptional. Pink Cigarrette is very, very good. But here we are tasked with comparing the incomparable. Here’s my analogy. The first album is Kind of Blue. Disco is Bitches Brew. California is the actual songs that Miles never assembled himself as true originals. The Four Seasons would be California. Scheherazade would be Mr. Bungle. Telling a singular story with unfettered expression and musical prowess in pure form, with little to no concern for what came before or what may come after. Mr. Bungle’s first album is a true masterpiece of musical expression, fortitude of arrangement, instrumental (including the voice) chops beyond mere mortal ability, and a lasting impression where the term timeless is not enough of an accurate description, the same way that some artists will find a nuance in the Mona Lisa or better yet any Dali work which brings that insatiable feeling of wonderment back anew, as if gazing upon its visage for the first time, like that first drive in your favorite car, or more pointedly, that first entry into the into the vagina of that girl you previously thought out of your league. In other words, magic. Real magic. Not stage magic. I don’t care for GnR, but Appetite approaches this as a savant work of art. Houses of the Holy, Master of Reality, and Nothing’s Shocking, and Carcass’ Heartwork also come to mind. But none can touch that place where Mr. Bungle reigns as the untouchable. JS Bach himself would also come to mind, as without him none of what we love in the world of music would exist. The Little Fugue in G Minor is one of my all time favorite pieces of music, but Patton, Dunn, and Spruance brought it all together to be the greatest tasting cake ever baked, never to be repeated. Scott Ian and Dave Lombardo do not a Mr. Bungle make. Sorry guys. Still great stuff, but so is Them Crooked Vultures. Just because you are a supergroup doesn’t guarantee an epic product.

      I’ve got a Ween story. Quick version. They had just played the encore song, I think it was Mr. Richard Smoker. Claude is messing around and accidentally plays the double kick “Hot for Teacher” intro. Dean joins in and they play the song, and played another 90 minutes, for about a 3 1/2 hour show, total. Epic. I was the monitor engineer, so my experience was epic. I knew it was going to be an awesome show when after I ran them through a little monitor check, and asked them if they’d like to do a song, Claude plays on the drum pad the chimes from “Spinal Meningitis Got Me Down”, and the first hit was heavy as fuck! What a fucking show! And I see shows for a living. Never saw Bungle though. And I’ll be right there by your side.
